Today we speak to Fidelity Equity Research Associate Connor MacGrath. He discusses how cooling inflation and current market trends are shaping opportunities in the Canadian real estate and insurance sectors. Connor says as rates come down, the U.S. economy is holding a bit stronger while Canada's economy is slowing down. This is creating wider levels of dispersion within the real estate and insurance sectors, but from this dispersion, Fidelity can leverage its research capabilities allowing to pinpoint new investment opportunities. Connor highlights opportunities in retail real estate. He says grocery-anchored power centres are doing well. The industrial real estate sector however is slowing down, but some owners are turning to building data centers because of secured power access, which makes them attractive investments. Connor also touches on new trends in life insurance and the impact of AI on the insurance sector.
