And Then They Were Gone

November 20, 2022 marked both Transgender Day of Remembrance and the 10-year-anniversary of Sage Smith's disappearance in Charlottesville, Virginia. Sage is still missing, but her case has been classified as a homicide. The man she was supposed to be meeting that night, Erik McFadden, has also been missing since shortly after her disappearance. We are re-releasing our two-part episode on Sage Smith in hopes of getting her name out there more and generating new leads.

When a black, transgender woman went missing from Charlottesville, Virginia on November 20, 2012, her family was appalled by the lack of a police investigation, despite having a solid person of interest. In Part 2 of our look into Sage Smith's disappearance, we talk about the investigative timeline, Erik McFadden, the main person of interest, as well as some other possible suspects. Sage Smith has received a fraction of the coverage of white women who went missing from the same area at the same time, but her story deserves to be told. Sage Smith has a family who loves her, and they deserve answers and accountability.

If you have any information about the disappearances of Sage Smith or Erik McFadden, please contact Charlottesville Police Detective Regine Wright at (434) 977-3381, or the anonymous CrimeStoppers tip line at (434) 977-4000. A $10,000 reward is being offered through CrimeStoppers, and an additional $10,000 is being matched by the City of Charlottesville for information leading to an arrest in Smith’s case.

On November 20, 2012, 19-year-old Sage Smith was supposed to meet a man she had been seeing. She told her roommate where she was going and headed down to Charlottesville, Virginia's Main Street, where they were supposed to meet. Sage has never been seen after that night. Police spoke with the man she was supposed to meet that night, Erik McFadden, but he disappeared from the area just days after Sage. While he did give conflicting stories via phone and email, police have never been able to interview him in person.

Now, 10 years later, both Sage and Erik have missing person reports filed on them, and a community is wondering why this case is still unsolved. Her family blames the fact that Sage is a black, transgendered woman for the lack of police response and publicity as compared to similar cases of white women in the area. They know that there are people out there who hold the answers to this case and have the ability to bring Sage home.

If you have any information about the disappearances of Sage Smith or Erik McFadden, please contact Charlottesville Police Detective Regine Wright at (434) 977-3381, or the anonymous CrimeStoppers tip line at (434) 977-4000. On August 15, 2008, a mother dropped her five-year-old son off to visit his father for the weekend. Her ex, Ernesto Gonzalez, hadn’t been very involved in their son, Giovanni’s, life since their separation three years prior, but he recently started making an effort to have a relationship with the boy. Daisy Colon packed Giovanni’s backpack with clothes and dropped him off in nearby Lynn, Massachusetts. But when she came to pick him up again, her little boy was gone.

An investigation was launched, and police even eventually secured a confession. The problem? Investigators didn’t believe it. Daisy believes that Ernesto hit their son somewhere, but nearly 15 years later, no one has found him. What happened to Giovanni Colon-Gonzalez?

If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Giovanni Colon-Gonzalez, you can contact the Lynn Police Department at 781-595-2000.

On the morning of April 29, 2003, Bo Tuders woke his daughter Tabitha up for school and put her favorite TV show on. He said goodbye as he left for work. 13-year-old Tabitha always got herself off to school, and this day was no different. Tabitha left her home that morning and walked toward her bus stop. But then she disappeared. Police initially misclassified Tabitha as a runaway, but her family knew in their hearts that she didn’t leave on her own. Was Tabitha abducted by a stranger, or by someone whom she thought she could trust?

If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Tabitha Tuders, please call the Nashville Metro Police Department at 615-862-8600. There is a $50,000 reward in her case.

On June 21, 2016, 20-year-old Tyler Stice packed his lunch and left for work. The community college student was living at home and working to save up money in hopes of eventually attending Northern Arizona University. That morning, Tyler got into his prize possession, a black Ford Mustang, and drove off. But he didn’t make it to work that day. Four days later his car would be found in the Hualapai mountains, but there would be no trace of Tyler.

Tyler’s family had been seemingly followed by tragedy for years, and it wouldn’t stop with his disappearance. It’s been over six years since Tyler was last seen, and his case is filled with theories, with some wondering if his family’s checkered past could have contributed not only to what happened not only that day, but also to the events that followed.

If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Tyler Stice, you can contact Silent Witness at 1-928-754-1234. You can also give a tip to the Kingman Police via email at [email protected]. Please reference case number 16-18530.
