Dear listeners,

It is us, Peter Marks, chief theater critic at the Washington Post, and Elisabeth Vincentelli, contributor to the New York Times, and we are happy to be chatting about theater again!

As many of you know, we used to co-host the “Three on the Aisle” podcast with our dear colleague Terry Teachout. Last December we decided to end that show after a four-year run hosted by American Theatre magazine — those episodes are still available and collectively they form quite an oral history of recent American stage events, if we may say so ourselves.

And then in January, Terry died in his sleep. To say this was a shock is an understatement. We decided to reunite for a tribute episode to Terry, and despite the sad occasion, we realized we still had a lot to say about theater.

So here we are on Substack. As we explain on the show, some of what we talk about will be similar — expect strong opinions about what we see. But we also want to expand our coverage and explore more areas relevant to the stage.

Our goal is to do three episodes a month, one of which will be for members (we’ll come up with more goodie ideas for our supporters in the future).
