  • S05E006, Stuck In The Middle With You, Andy B 2 Minute Video

    Send us Fan Mail

Have you ever heard the phrase ‘meet God in the middle’?

On the one hand it is simply ridiculous that ewe can ever meet God half way – since He is omnipresent. If He is everywhere, then there can be no middle!

But, I do think it is good to consider what it is that God is asking of us. After all, if we simply sat back and said ‘Ok God, I’ll wait for you to move’ we’d have missed the point of the entire scripture. We’d also miss the reason why Jesus became Man, died on a cross, and died – so that we could have a relationship with God.

This would not have been possible without what Jesus did when He descended to hell and defeated even death – the one certainty every one of must face.

To be a Christian; to be a disciple of Jesus – is to embrace change and to seek to honour all that Jesus spoke in that wonderful template for how to pray we often far too easily simply, lazily, recite as the Lord’s Prayer without considering it’s true meaning and power of those precious words spoken by Jesus Himself. And that is that we are to bring heaven on earth, by literally being heaven on earth – by being and showing the light of Jesus in all that we do - whether that is how we drive, speak about others, refuse to engage in gossip or laughing at rude jokes. It is reflected by whether use a friend’s copy of software rather than buying it ourselves, or not returning items of food we forgot to pay for in a supermarket.

A disciple of Jesus is not simply one who is destined for heaven. A disciple of Jesus needs to work out what God is asking us to do as we journey to heaven. And that journey requires movement on our part – towards Jesus, and towards people who also need Jesus, just as much as we do.

I’ve seen many churches who almost revel in praying about anything – in order to not have to do anything. And I say that as one who has been in full-time church ministry!

Yes, let’s pray. Absolutely. Prayer changes everything! Truly!!! But, let’s not use prayer as a means of preventing having to actually do something. Jesus prayed before doing…not instead of doing.

We need to meet God in the middle, by asking God what it is He wants us to actually do.

The life of a Christian is one of doing, not just being. Yes, let’s take time simply ‘being’ in the presence of God. But, let’s also ensure we are being the people God desires us to be and bringing His heaven on earth.

  • S05E005, Where Did That Come From? Andy B 2 Minute Video

    Send us Fan Mail

As we move through life, with jobs, cars, houses, rent, children, funerals and so much more, it can often appear rather shocking when things either go away when we weren’t expecting it, or perhaps more difficult to cope with, when things were going our away and then suddenly everything went south.

The Disciples of Jesus must have had some amazing times watching Jesus move about the countryside performing the miracles He did. Only to see Him dying on a cross.

The world they thought they knew changed, in an instant.

That one situation destroyed their hope, their faith, their belief – for a moment. And, as we know, that event changes history because none of us have to go to hell when we die – each of has a choice we are free to make to follow Jesus, and go to heaven instead.

There are plenty of situations that can throw us to the wall, so to speak – for good or for bad.

But, whatever happens, we can still Praise God, because He is still sovereign.

When Corrie Ten Boom, a Dutch woman who lived through World War II was taken to prison, her world was shattered in so many ways. And yet, as she went on to write and speak about, that was also an opportunity for God to prepare her for heaven.

So, whatever is going on in your life right now. However difficult to beat it may well be, do remember that you are not alone and that God is still there to guide and aid you through life.

  • S05E004, Hope Never Disappoints! Andy B 2 Minute Video

    Send us Fan Mail

Hope can sometimes feel like a premium we’ll never be able to afford.

With rising energy costs – 80% in the UK, and that’s just the most recent rise – it can truly appear terrifying to look ahead.

As Christians we are, of course, not immune from the struggles of this world. Yes, we have a world creating God who loves to answer our prayers. However, He is not a distant magician with a magic wand; it isn’t a case of using the right words, or convincing arguments to get God to give us what we think we need.

So what is all this God stuff about then if you can’t get what you want? Well, it is super simple!

A relationship with Jesus means that we can have peace. Not a peace that can be here today gone tomorrow. Or, perhaps, here now, gone in 60 seconds.

It is a peace which exists because it does not depend on anything to do with us, our situation or the world around us. And that peace creates a hope based in something which is unshakeable.

In my book - Broken Dreams, and Hope! - I discuss this in much more depth. You can buy the book, or watch the video (for free) to find out what I’m talking about to much deeper level.

Life creates many situations which can break us. But God gives us a peace which is worth fighting for and striving for. And, the really good news, is that we neither have to fight nor strive for it. If we follow Jesus; if we make Jesus our special friend – our Lord and Saviour – that peace comes as a free gift. You don’t have to earn it. It is yours, and mine, if we simply look to Jesus and live life the way He desires us to .

So, if the world feels like it is stealing you of your hope for the future, turn to Jesus – He is ready and waiting, no matter who you are, what you have done, what you have said or what you think, to provide an endless source of peace, and hope!

You simply need to ask Him into your life, and to know that peace which transcends all understanding. It is a peace, and a hope, which will never fade, spoil, diminish or wear.

  • S05E003, Do Your Part! Andy B 2 Minute Video

    Send us Fan Mail

During the Second World War there were posters with “Do Your Part” These were more commonly used by the US to seek to inspire American women to get involved in the war effort, from the Home Front – working in machine shops, factories, farms and wherever they were needed. They didn’t go to fight, but they did support those doing so.

During COVID we saw similar campaigns with slogans like Do Your Part, Stay Apart – designed to get us to keep a certain distance from each other.

In both situations the slogan was used to seek to inspire people into doing something about the situation they were surrounded by – on the Home Front.

With an 80% rise in gas and electric costs here in the UK, and much of Europe struggling with rising costs that people have no hope of ever meeting, we see terror and fear around us as people face a very dark and grim winter. I just heard on the news that 25% of households in the UK have stated they will not be turning on their central heating systems when the weather turns colder.

This throws up some serious issues as the British weather can get very damp and cold, and because our houses are designed to function with central heating. If you simply don’t turn on the heating, you’ll ultimately risk structural damage, damp, mould and serious ill health – even death.

As Christians there is, at first glance, very little we can hope to do about this situation as there isn’t much we can do on a global scale – which is what is truly needed. However, there is much we can do on the Home Front, because we can all Do Our Part!

For example, we can make ourselves to our work colleagues and listen to their struggles. We are not immune from the issues and worries of this world. We do, however, know peace, because we know Jesus.

So don’t despair friends about what you can or can’t do, or about the problems facing people. Jesus already won the victory on that old wooden cross. And, when Jesus uttered the words “It is finished” He was also saying that we have no need to fear even death, He defeated it for us.

So, “Do Your Part” and make sure you are shining the light and hope of Jesus Christ to the people you meet in your everyday lives. We could all do with a touch more hope, and you can be the bearer of it.

There is much to be afraid of. There is much that is bringing terror.

But, above it all is Jesus Christ – and He is the peace and hope that our world needs, so Do Your Part and don’t try and hide Jesus. He is, after all, the only solution to a fearful people, including ourselves!

  • S05E007, Under Maintenance, Endurance

On this episode, we explain the concept of spiritual maintenance.

Endurance is your weekly spiritual workout, whether you think of yourself as a beginner, an intermediate, or advanced!

    #GoDeeper

For GoDeeper this week Steven starts us off by pointing out all the maintenance that athletes must do before they can actually exercise, such as warm-ups, cool-downs, and stretching.

He then points out that as Christians we also need some maintenance, so that we function at our best for what God has called us to. Plus, he explains the difference between growth and maintenance.

Steven draws our attention to an interesting verse in James 1 and goes on to give us an analogy for how to maintain our faith using the process of learning to play an instrument.

    #GoDo

For the final segment, Nathan asks Steven some questions about his GoDeeper talk:

    1.   There’s a Scripture verse that says our bodies are a temple of the Holy Spirit. I suppose that is why we need to take care of our spiritual bodies?

    2.   Are we always going to be under maintenance?

    3.   You talked about bitterness and other problems we face each day. I suppose they could be allegorically represented by mud trapped in the cogs of a bicycle or dirt that gets caught in a car’s engine. Would you agree?

    4.   How do you look after your trainers?

Check out this week’s episode to find out how Stevens answers these questions.

  • S02E006, Rubies are a wife’s best friend! Marriage Matters

    Introduction

In this week’s Marriage Matters, Andy B and Jo look at how precious a wife is – well a good Wife, no! - an excellent Wife, not just any Wife! Don’t worry, Andy and Jo promised to cover husbands next week!

You may have guessed already that Andy B reads from Proverbs 31 and in particular verse 10 – to find out that an excellent wife is more precious than Rubies, Jewels or Pearls, depending on your bible translation. The long and short is a good Wife is valuable and precious like expensive gems, hence Rubies are a wife’s best friend!

    Tips and Resources

    • Andy B recommends all, not just men, read ‘Thoughts for Young Men’ by J.C Ryle
    • Jo recommends a book written by April Cassidy: ‘The Peaceful Wife’
    • And to find a good example of a wife of noble character – an excellent Wife – then Jo tells us to look no further than the Book of Ruth in the Bible and recommends we read all about Ruth in ‘Ruth’!

    The Take Away

Andy – Looks will change, but a passion for Jesus is the thing we should be pursuing in whoever we desire to marry.

Jo – It feels good to be valued and considered valuable as a wife. Proverbs 31 is an encouragement to do the right thing as a wife and it’s good to know that it applies to us all!
