Introduction
In this week’s Marriage Matters, Andy B and Jo face the fact that things can go wrong and use the phrase ‘pear shaped’ to describe difficulties in marriage. Jo wants us to know that they are not being ‘pearist’ and have nothing against pears! And, as usual, Jo and Andy share their own experiences to encourage and support us in celebrating marriages in spite of these unattractive problems and help us find a healthy way to grow our marriages.

In this episode, Andy and Jo encourage us to keep going in our marriages and work at creating peace and harmony in the home in spite of problems and to let understanding and forgiveness rule.

Andy reminds us that the bible is full of good stuff to help us in our marriages and Jo is amazed at how God turns things around and brings good out of our trials. Andy and Jo highlighted these scripture verses:

This week Steven begins GoDeeper by relating our need for rhythm when running to the rhythm we need in our everyday life.

He goes on to draw out some of the things that Romans 12:8-9 commands us to do in order to live at peace with everyone. They include prayer, generosity, rejoicing, service to God and more. Our daily routine or rhythm should include these things listed in Romans 12:8-9.

To conclude this week’s GoDeeper, Steven challenges us to follow the Holy Spirit’s leading to change what we need to in order for us to have rhythm in our lives.

For the final segment, Nathan asks Steven some difficult questions about his GoDeeper:

1.   I gathered from your talk that we need to adjust our rhythm in life to different seasons. Is that right?

2.   How do you find the correct rhythm?

3.   I suppose rhythm gives us consistency and therefore helps us to be more efficient. Would you agree?

4.   What is your favourite car?

And, as usual, Jo and Andy share their own experiences to encourage and support us in celebrating marriages in spite of these unattractive problems and help us find a healthy way to grow our marriages.

Jo highlights the fact that we can and will hurt the ones we love and how we need to be understanding and forgiving and Andy reminds us of what love is as described in 1Corinthians 13, noting that we should not keep records of wrongs!

It’s a hard-hitting stuff which was inspired by Hosea 3 which describes a challenging marriage involving adultery and prostitution and God calls the husband to take his wife back. Have a read for yourself and maybe read Hosea 3 and some chapters before and after to help you prepare for this episode – You can’t say we didn’t warn you!

#GoDeeper

This week Steven kicks off GoDeeper with a passage of Scripture from Mark, chapter 8 where Jesus commands us to take up our cross and follow Him.

He goes on to point out that if you keep certain everyday objects like a car or smart watch hidden away, out of danger, you defeat their purposes. That’s exactly what the servant with one talent did in the parable of the talents.

The apostle Paul practically lived in the “danger zone,” he was the prime example of what Steven and Nathan are talking about this week. However, Paul followed the Holy Spirit’s prompting into the “danger zone.” 

Steven relates how his speaking to the camera was him stepping into the danger zone – figuratively speaking. And finally, he challenges us to step out of our comfort zones into the danger zone as and when God leads us to.

For the final segment, Nathan asks Steven some questions about his GoDeeper talk:

1.   Were you suggesting it is more natural for Christians to be in the danger zone?

2.   It states in Hebrews that without faith we cannot please God. Ergo, stepping out in faith, or into the ‘danger zone,’ is what pleases God, is it not?

3.   You said that we need to take up our Cross. Could you clarify what you mean by a ‘cross’?

4.   What colour is your T-shirt?
