For centuries, people fighting against oppressions, whether imposed by kings, dictators or capital, have tried to take control of the state through elections or revolutions to build a more just world. But all these new governments ended up keeping the existence of a privileged minority, while the majority of the population continued to be exploited, imprisoned or killed. Is it impossible to use the state to abolish class oppression?

Há séculos, pessoas que lutam contra as opressões, sejam elas impostas por reis, ditadores ou pelo capital, tentam tomar o controle do Estado através do voto ou da revolução para construir um mundo mais justo. Mas todos esses novos governos acabaram mantendo a existência de uma minoria privilegiada, enquanto a maioria da população continuava sendo explorada, encarcerada ou morta. Será que é impossível usar o Estado para abolir a opressão de classe?

Depois que o racismo foi tipificado como crime e que o Supremo Tribunal Federal decidiu equiparar a homofobia, a transfobia e a xenofobia ao racismo, criminalizando também esses comportamentos, muitas pessoas têm adotado o fato de "ser crime" como o principal argumento para condenar essas práticas e relegado às polícias e aos tribunais o papel de combatê-las, legitimando instituições fundadas no racismo, cuja missão é e sempre foi controlar e reprimir as minorias.

In the same week that the streets of France lit up with protests against social security reform, a wave of attacks hit more than 50 cities in Rio Grande do Norte state, in so called Brazil. The media, federal and state governments, and even sectors of the left approach the situation as matter of police, consigned to the world of organized crime. They leave aside a crucial point: that this revolt demands conditions of basic dignity for people incarcerated by the state.
