Learning how to calm anxiety with acceptance can be a powerful tool for stress management. 
In today's episode, mental health therapist Frank Sasso, discusses the neuroscience behind the  brain's fight or flight system and how  amygdala  accelerates anxious symptoms.  With that said, he also mention how alcohol can make anxiety feel worse.

When we perceive a future threat the body releases stress hormones through  adrenal glands  which contribute to the physical symptoms of anxiety. This can include having a rapid heart rate along with shortness of breath. It's always important to consult with a medical doctor when you have a health concern.

There is a lot of confusion in our society between the normal baby blues and what’s commonly referred to as PPD. Left untreated, Postpartum disorders can have serious consequences on both the mother as well as the development of the child. 

According to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, between 50% and 80% of new mothers experience mood swings for a few weeks after giving birth. This can include difficulty sleeping, trouble concentrating, and crying outbursts. When these symptoms last longer than two weeks, it may be a perinatal or postpartum problem. Left untreated, a PMAD, can lead to OCD or sometimes psychosis. 

There are many actions mothers can take to address the problem. The first step is to talk to your doctor to get an assessment. From there, your physician can help you to create an action plan to cope with the symptoms. 

As an older parent, Frank shares his experience on trying to look younger at 50 by undergoing the Halo Laser Treatment at New Image Works Medical Spa in Glenview, IL.

The name of the show has been changed from Parenting Over 40 to Anxiety Therapist Podcast.

Frank along with his twin brother were adopted by a couple at age three. His adopted parents brainwashed him into believing he was their biological child. They were not clearly fit to raise children. Hear how his father physically abused him on a regular basis. Listen to bone chilling descriptions of his  mother’s psychotic personality.

During Frank’s early childhood, his new parents abused alcohol and prescription drugs.  At age 10, his adopted parents divorced and abandoned him – never telling him the truth about his true origins. He was left in a military school for poor kids from broken homes. 

Experience the shock of learning about his own adoption at age 37. 
Growing up, he could not understand why he felt so out of place. Along the way, he struggled with anxiety symptoms, depression, as well as a fear of abandonment. 

Gain practical parenting advice from an adoptees perspective. Starting a family at any age can present many challenges. It's important to think beyond those cute baby years. Understand that adopting a child can be a wonderful experience if the family handles the situation the right way.
