Apocalypse in Review episodes

  • Dredd [feat. Garion Kyler]

We've finally ended our Zombie sub-genre and have entered Post Apocalypse/Dystopian!  On this week's episode, we cover the comic book-based movie, Dredd (2012). Starring Karl Urban, it's about a dystopian world where police have been replaced with "Judges" who are judge, jury, and executioner. I mean, it's complete fantasy, right? That can't ever happen in the real world.......

We invited author Garion Kyler onto our show. We met Garion in our town's game store when he was promoting his book, The Rabbit and the Dryad. If you enjoy urban fantasy, this is for you! You can purchase your book by going to https://cenpublications.com/shop
It's currently on sale for $1!!!

In this episode, we did our usual synopsis and "Strategery" then played a new game that Tom made up called "I am the Dumbest Law", and ended with our rating/reviewing of the movie.

We would love your support! Check out our new merch store and score a new hoodie (in prep for sweater weather) or any other goodie we have in our line up. Any purchase will help us with continuing this podcast. You can find our merch store link as well as all social media and podcast platforms we are on by clicking https://linktr.ee/apocalypseinreview

  • Zombie with a Shotgun [feat. Kyle Hester]

Special episode alert! This week, we decided to change things up because we had actor/producer/film maker Kyle Hester joining us to discuss the movie he acted and co-produced in: Zombie with a Shotgun.
Listen as we interview Kyle, get some fun trivia from the movie, went through "Silver Linings", and played a new game called "Zombies in History" (Tom is getting his creative juices flowing as he makes up all these games for our podcast episodes). We also discussed some fun pandemic-induced hobbies and had a great time.

  • Re-Animator [feat. Rivers Langley]

On this week's episode, we discuss Re-Animator (1985) and we are joined by Rivers Langley! If you don't know who Rivers is, he hosts the podcast The Goods From The Woods. It's one of Tom's favorite podcasts so we were super excited that Rivers could join us.

Starting this week, we've decided to add a new feature to our podcast: we'll be telling you where to skip to if you just want to hear the second half of the show (ie. games, review, and rating). We figured it would be helpful to those who have watched the movies and don't want a play-by-play. So for those of you who do not want to sit through our hilarious version of a Re-Animator synopsis, fast forward to 26:30.

Btw, we launched a new merch store! Check out the goodies by heading over to https://linktr.ee/apocalypseinreview and clicking "Buy Merch Here". You'll be doing us a huge favor by showing your support and helping us keep this podcast going.

  • Overlord [feat. Shoot the Flick]

You enjoy war movies? You like zombies? Then this episode is for you. Overlord didn't do so well in the box office but is a hidden gem among the apocalypse genre. Another bonus is that we had Scott and Frankie from the Shoot the Flick podcast join us. We let our guests pick the movie they want to guest on, and I'm glad that they picked this. If you haven't watched the movie yet, go watch it now, then make sure to listen to our episode. We don't want to spoil it for you.
Along with the synopsis, we ran through some movie trivia, then played our usual game of "Strategery", a new game called "Nietzsche and the Chocolate Factory", and as per usual, we included commentary of us watching the movie.

  • World War Z

We are now headed into the sub-genre of Zombie movies! Michelle hadn't seen World War Z (2013) since they went to the theatre to watch it when it first released, so we thought that might be a good one to review. Especially since Tom had mixed feelings about the movie, because he was one of those people who was a fan of the book. There is an animated storytelling of the synopsis, a bit of trivia, our game "Strategery", discuss a fun CDC thing that Tom found, and rate/review the movie.

  • Shaun of the Dead [feat. Drink Drunk Dead]

As we near the end of our comedic apocalypse movie sub-genre, we of course had to cover Shaun of the Dead (2004). After we go through the intro and synopsis, we had guests Emily and Joel of Drink Drunk Dead podcast come onto our show to help us out.We ran through some movie trivia and played a game called "What's the Plan?".  If you love this movie, you don't want to miss this episode!

  • This is the End

Ready for another episode from our comedic apocalypse sub-genre? We've chosen This is the End (2013) starring a whole bunch of celebrities who are starring as themselves. We run through a synopsis of the movie, then we play "Eulogies", discuss some trivia facts, brought back our "We Deserve This" segment, then ended with our usual rating and reviewing of the movie. Michelle had a really difficult time rating this one.

  • Tank Girl [feat. The Violet Wanderers]

Continuing on with our comedic apocalypse sub-genre, we are featuring Tank Girl and recruited our friends Alexis, Ian, and Justin over at The Violet Wanderers to help us out. We stray away from our usually specific structure a bit because this movie is unusual. It's crazy, outrageous, funny, ridiculous... how many more synonyms can I include? This episode starts with a very short quippy version of the synopsis, then we bring back our oldie-but-goodie game "Eulogy". Once we bring on our guests, we have a long discussion featuring trivia, nonsense, hilarity, and some deep dives into the movie. Due to some insane technical difficulties that Tom experienced for over a week editing this episode (to the point Michelle was wondering if the computer was possessed and would possibly need a good sage cleanse), this episode is our greatest labor of love yet. • Zombieland

As we move through our sub-genre of comedic apocalypse movies, we thought the 2009 movie Zombieland would be a nice addition to the collection. Woody Harrelson is a fave in this household and Michelle has crush on Jesse Eisenberg that Tom doesn't quite understand or tolerate. The episode goes through the usual synopsis, includes some movie trivia, a new game called "Rules to Live By/5 Rules", and our usual review and rating of the movie. The longer we do this podcast, the more Michelle starts waffling on her rating. Let's hold her accountable.

  • The Machine [feat. Pat Houston]

Do you like robots? Sexy ass-kicking women? Pondering philosophy and the meaning of life? The British? Then this movie is for you.
This episode starts off with our usual synopsis (ends at 28:39), but this time we had our ol' buddy Pat come on our show to help us out. We played "Stratergy" and a new game, "I Think, Therefore I Am" and ended with our review and rating of the movie. Tom's been adding the reaction corner at the end of the episode, so stick around if you want to hear all the nonsense commentary of us watching the movie!
