  • Is Calvinism a Cult?
    Apologetics Live episode 134
Why do some have such a hardline against Calvinism? Some people even call it a cult. However, is it really a cult? There are many people that claim that it is a cult and not biblical Christianity. Many people misunderstand what a Calvinist believe and therefore assume that it is false teaching. Matt Slick of CARM joins the discussion to talk about Calvinism. First, this discussion will define what a cult is. The second is to define what Calvinism is. If someone does not have a proper definition of terms it can create a misrepresentation of the positions. Matt answers a question on the decrees of God. Also, a question from a listener was answered about how to witness to a universalist.

  • Bonus: More Post RA Fuentes Debate Discussion
    Apologetics Live episode 133
Andrew and Justin are joined by several pastors and other brothers to discuss the debate with RA Fuentes on the topic of Calvinism is Useless and Dangerous. They review the tactics of RA Fuentes. His behavior before, during, and after the debate exposes that he is someone that loses credibility as a debater, teacher, or pastor. Several men from the Philippines come in and discuss not only the behavior during and after the debate but also their experiences with Mr. RA Fuentes. Andrew provides some helpful tools to recognize poor behavior and how to handle it when in conversations. Hear from many men all who have had a similar experience with Fuentes.
RA Fuentes has accused Andrew of lying on several issues. Andrew reveals the evidence that it is not true. They talk about the fact that someone that has to distort the facts or share half-truths to defend themself, is in a dangerous position. That is the behavior on display since the debate and Andrew does not shy away from answering. Since the debate, there has been many claims about what was said during the debate and they review what was said with the claims afterward.
Andrew offers a challenge at the end to examine his behavior and that of Fuentes. The two speak volumes of right and wrong; qualified and not.

  • Witnessing to Mormons with Bill McKeever
    Apologetics Live episode 132
Have you ever had an opportunity to share the gospel with a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS), also known as Mormons? Pastor Justin had that happen and wanted to know how to better evangelize them. So we asked an expert, Bill McKeever, to join us and discuss what they believe and how to evangelize to them. It can be hard to evangelize to Mormons because they claim to be Christians also.
Bill McKeever founded Mormonism Research Ministry over 40 years ago. He will start out by providing an overview of what the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints believes. Bill goes on to provide many different ways to share the gospel with an LDS member.

  • Bonus: Post-Debate Discussion of RA Fuentes
    Apologetics Live episode 131
Andrew and Justin are joined by Pastor Nilo and Jordan to discuss the debate with RA Fuentes on the topic of Calvinism is Useless and Dangerous. They review the tactics of RA Fuentes. His behavior before, during, and after the debate exposes that he is someone that loses credibility as a debater, teacher, or pastor. Andrew will explain why he asked the questions that he did during the cross-examination. Those were purposeful to expose that RA Fuentes did not understand the topic of Calvinism, which was the topic of debate. In fact, Andrew will play some of the debate to show that RA Fuentes called it off-topic of the debate to discuss the meaning of the five points of Calvinism. How can the meaning of the topic be off-topic?
RA Fuentes has accused Andrew of lying on several issues. Andrew will reveal the evidence that it is not true. They talk about the fact that when someone has to distort the facts to defend themself, is a dangerous position. That is the behavior on display since the debate and Andrew does not shy away from answering. • Debate: Calvinism is Useless and Dangerous
    Apologetics Live episode 130
Rey Ann Fuentes from the Philippines has challenged Andrew Rappaport to debate the topic of Calvinism is useless and dangerous. This debate has some fireworks at the end, where Andrew will expose why RA Fuentes of RA Fuentes Apologetics should not be doing debates. He did not understand the topic of the debate. Andrew exposes that RA Fuentes actually believes in the teaching of Calvinism while showing that when he attempted to define Calvinism he had an incorrect definition. Andrew will provide proper definitions of terms.
This is an educational debate on several fronts. First, it was helpful to understand what Calvinism actually is. A second is a display of how people need to define the terms. RA Fuentes attempts in the debate to claim that context is not needed for Biblical interpretation. He stated that there are "stand-alone" verses. It was a shock to him that the verse numbers were added to Scripture hundreds of years later. RA Fuentes will argue that unless we need to define T.U.L.I.P. when sharing the gospel then Calvinism is useless. He will then argue that Calvinism is dangerous because several atheists claimed to have been Calvinists but now deny the faith.
What was most disheartening was the behavior of RA Fuentes that at the end when Andrew was trying to correct him. He asked for a closing prayer but when it came to that time of the show he refused to listen, pulling his earbuds out of his ears.

  • Should Christians Cheer ‘Let’s Go Brandon’?
    Apologetics Live episode 128
There is a popular cheer being shouted at public events, "Let's Go Brandon". This is a reference to foul language referring to President Joe Biden. Even though it is a sanitized version of foul language, the question for Christians is can they use that phase. Pastor Justin and Andrew are joined by Chris Hohnolz for Voice of Reason Radio to discuss this more. Some Christians are justifying saying "let's go Brandon" as the same as King David in some of the psalms against his enemies. Scripture is clear that Christians should not use foul language. Is there a difference between using the phrase "let's go Brandon"? Christians may disagree with President Biden's policies, but he is still the president and Scripture says that we should show him honor. Dislike for the president does not justify dishonor. They guys provide a biblical argument on this issue.

  • Response to Listener over the Covid Vaccine
    Apologetics Live episode 127
Last week was mentioned that a listener commented about Justin Pierce taking the covid vaccine and had negative comments. The listener has responded again and it will be discussed along with a more detailed explanation of the vaccine and why some are taking it or not. Is the covid vaccine the "mark of the beast"? many Christians have made that claim. This listener addresses that issues and we need a clear response. Is the vaccine passport the forerunner of the mark of the beast? Anything could be the forerunner, but we will not know until we see the mark the of the beast.
A big part of the difference in these discussions is to differentiate between the covid vaccine and the vaccine mandates. The vaccine is a personal decision based on many factors, such as medical conditions, the science of the vaccines, the use of fetal cell lines, etc. Where the vaccine mandates are an issue of freedom, not science. We should not get angry with others over this issue.
Here is the podcast that started this discussion: Jesus if the Father, Son and Holy Spirit? Cult?

  • Jesus if the Father, Son and Holy Spirit? Cult?
    Apologetics Live episode 126
Andrew was invited onto a live stream to share the gospel only to discover he was setup up by a cult group that was trying to trap him. They believed that the name of the Father is Jesus, and the Son is named Jesus and even the Holy Spirit has the name, Jesus. We will display what they do and expose their tactics. It is not every day that you get invited onto a live stream to share the gospel and then discover your cult group of sorts was trying to set up an ambush. But when Andrew got there, he found out it was not at all what they expected! We will take viewers through everything leading up to this moment; we even have footage from their live stream. Since This group was challenged by Andrew to a formal debate but they ignored him. Therefore, Andrew will review their live stream and help you identify cultic practices and how to handle situations like this.
This group was trying to argue that to be saved a person needs to know that the name of God the Father is Jesus. They also believe that the name of the Holy Spirit is Jesus. However, they do not believe Jesus is God but only the Son of God. What to do when you hear false teaching for the first time and feel you must defend the truth? Andrew will provide an example.

  • Justin Peters Responds to Sam Storms
    Apologetics Live episode 125
Justin Peters responds to Sam Storms' defense of singing Bethel and Hillsong music in church. Storms claim that it is acceptable to use music from Bethel or Hillsong in church services. he wrote a blog article that using Bethel Music and Hillsong as church music is not wrong. Justin and the guys have a detailed discussion on the points he makes in his article. Storms argues that the doctrinal statements of both groups are solid as if that is enough to justify their use in church. The team evaluates several doctrinal statements including Bethel's and Hillsong. There is a difference between their doctrinal statements and their practices.
Another major argument that Sam Storms makes is that we cannot avoid working with groups and companies that we do not argue with doctrinally. Much conversation was focused on answering this argument. Just because some songwriters deny the faith is not the same as the reasons to avoid Bethel and Hillsong Music. These groups use their music as an evangelism tool to pull people, especially young people, from solid churches into their false teaching.
