  • The Significance of the Sermon on the Mount
Martyn Lloyd Jones once said, “One of the most obvious feature of the life of the Christian church today is, alas, its superficiality and glibness.” This may or may not be true of the church you attend, but it does seem to be evident in the broader Christian community. Lloyd Jones goes on to argue that the Sermon on the Mount, properly understood, can wake us from our slumber and shake us from our worldliness, but what is the Sermon on the Mount? Is it simply a roadmap for social improvement? Is it merely a moral code by which we should attempt to live, or does it communicate something deeper and far more significant? Was Jesus merely filling the role of a good teacher, or was He also revealing something to us about Himself? Join Doug Eaton and Joe Young as they look at the significance of the Sermon on the Mount, discuss its meaning, and guard against false interpretations.

  • Fantasy and Fairy Tales
Once upon a time, five Christians stepped foot into the enchanted Land of Farie. There they faced Disney princesses, ninja dragons, disenfranchised dwarfs, teenage wizards and a lion who wrote magic deeper than the world's foundation. In this episode, join these five adventurers, Sam Welbaum, Jennifer Kemp, Chris Leigh, Justin Davis and Derek Brover, as they discuss fairy tales, myth, the fantasy genre, Christians in relation to magic and ultimately why people are drawn to these stories. Why is it that some things seem to call out to us and resonate deep in our soul? The topic is far too big for two hours, but these brave five attempt an introduction to the matters at hand and give plenty of appeals to Tolkien and Lewis to point listeners to further thought on the matter. They also develop what is sure to be a new hit TV show "Wizards in Space!"

  • The Will To Believe
Join host Bruce Paolozzi, along with panelists Lenny Esposito with Come Reason Ministries and staff apologist Jacob Daniels, as we explore the classic essay by William James, "The Will to Believe." James was an important American philosopher who helped develop pragmatic philosophy. His famous essay is concerned with epistemic justification of belief, and in doing so in a way that does not ignore the pragmatic aspect of how people believe. In other words, James paid close attention to the psychology of belief. He was writing against the strict empiricists of his day, such as William K. Clifford, who claimed that not only is a belief based on insufficient evidence unwarranted, but also unethical. James desired to defend faith against claims that faith runs contrary to intellectual responsibility. As long as our intellectual responsibility is satisfied, we have a right to believe what we will to believe. James explains how this responsibility is fulfilled without appealing to strict empiricism, making great use of the consequences of belief when reason cannot decide. Join us as we explore "The Will to Believe," investigating where it may be helpful and where it seems to go awry.

  • God, the Devil and the Cosmic War
Join Apologetics.com staff Christopher Neiswonger and Pastor Philip George (Mdiv Fuller) as they discuss the nature, the works and the exegetical basis for "spiritual forces or darkness". Is "the Devil" myth, legend, hype or being? An identifiable entity or a general term for discomfort with the universe? Even Jesus was tempted, the temptation by the Devil being the path to the fulfillment of the covenant of works given Adam. Can Jesus be described as a "second Adam" in relation to the first? What does that mean for us? Luther called the Devil "God's devil" which would certainly change the way we do the cosmic math. In Job the devil seems to be on the clock and accountable to God's higher jurisdiction for the things he does and how he does them. Does this kind of thing implicate God's moral nature? What about his sovreignty?

  • Progressive Creationism with Biochemist Dr. Fuz Rana
Special guest biochemist Dr. Fuz Rana from Reasons To Believe joins us to explain Progressive Creationism. If the universe and earth are billions of years old, what other old earth theories are out there to explain life’s origins besides Theistic Evolution? Did God create at the beginning only or did God progressively create in intervals spread across billions of years? How can one explain the development of life on an old earth without accepting macro-evolution and abiogenesis? Dr. Rana argues that God’s direct miraculous intervention was required to form life initially and life of the most advanced kind. In this show, we introduce Progressive Creationism and cross-examine Dr. Rana to see how PC holds up to scientific, Biblical, and theological scrutiny. Join Jeremy, Sam, Jacob, and Dr. Rana as we discuss this increasingly popular view of origins. Note: Progressive Creationism is the view the host and some others at apologetics.com have adopted. Note: Dr. Rana agreed to come back and do a show refuting Abiogenesis, the view that earliest primitive life naturally originated from non-living chemicals. Stay Tuned!

  • The First 39: An Overview of Old Testament Theology and Interpretation
The Bible is made up of 66 books spread over two testaments. Of these, the New Testament gets a lot more attention, unless we're talking about creation or the problem of evil. However, God inspired and gave us the Old Testament with a desire that we read it and learn about Him through it. In this episode, host Sam Welbaum and guest Joe Slunaker talk through why the Old Testament is important, and why believers need to spend time in the texts that comprise it.* They also talk through the basics of hermeneutics, and how we find meaning in a text. If you've ever wanted an overview of Old Testament theology and interpretive methods, give this show a listen.

  • Theological Language: Talking about how to Talk about God
Language is something that we take for granted. We use words constantly, but rarely do we stop and consider what words are, or how words work. How is it that a person makes a noise or writes certain symbols and symbols and in doing so communicates a content? This show starts off considering questions in this sphere and then moves to ask similar questions related to talking about God. Atheists often contend that theological language is meaningless, yet for believers it is some of the most meaningful language that we use. Is this difference merely a language game? Is it possible to talk in a meaningful way about God? Or about anything? And is "Girl, I like your face" a good pick-up line? Host Sam Welbaum along with Bruce Paolozzi and Justin Davis wrestle with these and other questions. If you don't know who Wittgenstein is right now...you will in two hours.

  • Theistic Evolution: Could God Have Used Macro-Evolution to Form Us?
Special Guest Dr. Leslie Wickman joins us to discuss Theistic Evolution. Theistic Evolution is a view has attracted interest amongst many Christian scientists. But can Christians adopt Theistic Evolution while remaining true to sound theology and an accurate reading of Genesis? There still are several criticisms of Naturalistic Evolution that make it problematic. So, does Theistic Evolution avoid these problems? Join Jeremy, Sam, Jacob, and Dr. Wickman as we introduce this view.
