  • Epi 61 Ron Hawkins
NOW Magazine's song writer of the year for 2015 is evidence that Ron Hawkins is still a talent to be reckoned with. As a founding member of Lowest of the Low, Ron found huge success in the early 90's with the bands first release "Shakespeare my Butt." Because of the band's do-it-yourself (DIY) ethics, they were able to basically write their own distribution deal with a major label based on the success of the first release. Since then Ron put together other bands including "Ron Hawkins and the Rusty Nails" and "Ron Hawkins and the Do Good Assassins" and has been releasing albums for over 20 years. His recent release it with the Do Good Assassins called "Garden Songs." In the podcast we talk about the days of old and the days of new, life, kids, music and whatever came up in Ron's basement studio.
Check out: www.ronhawkins.com/ or www.lowestofthelow.com/ to find out more about all things Ron Hawkins.

  • Epi 60 Kevin Lamb
    Welcome to episode 60
Kevin Lamb is a freelance photojournalist/photographer and author of a book named "Three Songs, no Flash". Over the past three years Kevin has been working on his book and interviewing musicians over the phone from his home in Barrie, Ontario. I met Kevin by chance when looking for a cool photo of Scott McCullough of the band "rusty". After getting talking briefly over Facebook, I knew that Kevin needed to be on the show. In the podcast, we talked about photography and the art of being an author.
Check out his website for the book here at www.3songsnoflash.ca

  • Epi 59 Stella Panacci
Stella Panacci and I go way back. We both kind of started playing music in the Pickering scene around the same time.  Stella formed the band Kat Rocket, a band where she played drums and sang. Eventually she put down the sticks and moved to the lead singer spot, which she found much easier for the sake of leaving the drum kit at home. Stella has been constantly playing and writing music which is an accomplishment that a lot of folks can't boast. In the podcast we talk about the old days of the Pickering indie/punk scene, being a girl in the seemingly mans world and life as a musician in Canada. Great talk with a great person!!

  • Epi 57 Justin Marler of “Quick and the Dead”
"Quick and the Dead" is the brainchild of Justin Marler (ex doom rock band "SLEEP").  Being a man of faith, Justin felt that he couldn't stand by and watch thousands of Syrians slaughtered.  He used the only tool he knew was music to attempt change and awareness about a place that is actually hell on earth.  Using old gospel hymns as a backbone, Justin, Tony D'Amato and Jim Watson added punk rock into the mix and the result is "Hymns for the Apocalypse" A ten song album where all proceeds (yes ALL) go to relief organizations in Syria.
In the podcast we talk about how Justin came to be in Austin TX from California and his early days.  We also spoke about the crazy ways his parish delivers money to organizations in Syria.

  • Epi 56 Sergie Loobkoff of “Samiam” and “Knapsack”
Sergie Loobkoff is the lead guitar player in some influential bands like Samiam and Knapsack. Sergie is also an artist and graphic designer living in downtown Los Angeles. In the podcast we spoke about the early days and the beginnings of Samiam. Sergie and his band mates have fostered a nonchalant approach to their music. He hates to use the word "fans" when discussing the followers of his music. While not searching for fame and fortune, Samiam has been on major labels and has influenced hundreds of bands over the past 20 plus years. Though Sergie will be the first to talk down the accolades.

  • Epi 54 Luther Wright of “Luther Wright and the Wrongs”
Luther Wright originally was a member of Kingston Ontario's "Weeping Tile". "Luther Wright and the Wrongs" was formed in 1997. Luther took the band more seriously after "Weeping Tile" (his original band) broke up in 1998. LW&TW gained a wider fan base after they released a reimagined version of "Pink Floyd's The Wall" in 2001 using bluegrass as the main influence.
