The Pittsburgh Pirates season already feels like a lost one just 18 games in. The team boasts the league's worst offense and while injuries may be playing a part in that, the team doesn't deserve to be able to use that as a crutch after the way they operated this offseason. The level of frustration seems to be at its peak for a fanbase who is used to the lack of results but was hopeful there would be some type of shift with Paul Skenes on the roster.

The Pittsburgh Pirates season is underway and, in many ways, just feels like a continuation of the 2024 season. The starting pitching has largely been solid through the first week of the season, yet the club sits at 2-5 ahead of their home opening series against the New York Yankees. So how did we get here? Well, the offense has yet to score more than 4 runs in any game and outside of IKF and Oneil Cruz, the bats have largely been quiet. The bullpen (namely Colin Holderman and David Bednar) has carried over their 2024 woes into 2025. So much so that David Bednar was optioned to AAA just a few days ago. Can this team get back on track? Is Derek Shelton the right guy to manage this club? Are the problems deeper and something above him?

On today's episode we discuss the team coming back down to Earth after a little bit of a hot streak. The team is who we thought they were, which isn't very good despite having spurts of looking like a fringe playoff team. The magic seems to have worn off on Tristan Jarry's recall, where he had a stretch of solid play between the pipes. The thing to watch for the rest of the season will be Sidney Crosby's chase towards history. He is on the cusp of being a point per game player, yet again, at age 37. He also leads the league in 5 v 5 scoring. What else is there to say about Sidney Crosby at this point?

NFL free agency is well under way at this point, and we are back to discuss how the Pittsburgh Steelers have changed in the recent days. They made a major splash the day before legal tampering began when they acquired WR DK Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a 2025 2nd-round pick and then immediately gave him a new 5/$150M contract. This leaves a lot of people wondering what the future is of George Pickens. We still don't know who will be throwing the ball to these guys either. The team lost Justin Fields to the Jets via free agency and hasn't yet signed a QB as of this recording. The team seems to want to bring Aaron Rodgers in but are waiting on his decision. On the other end of that, it doesn't seem like there is any interest in a Russell Wilson reunion. The team continued to add in the form of Darius Slay, Malik Harrison, Brandin Echols and Kenneth Gainwell while losing Najee Harris, Mike Williams, Donte Jackson, Dan Moore Jr., James Daniels and Elandon Roberts. Where will the team go from here? Who will be QB in 2025? We will find out together.

On today's episode we discuss Kyle Dubas cleaning up during the NHL Trade Deadline. He continued to do what he's done for the majority of his Penguins' tenure and that is add draft capital. In what quickly shaped up as a seller's market, Dubas was able to maximize his assets and get the most in return for guys like Anthony Beuvillier, Luke Schenn and Cody Glass. The team is flush capital and leaves us wondering what could be in store this summer. Since coming out of the deadline, we've seen Tristan Jarry return to the NHL level and look much better than he had prior. Yes, it's a small sample size and low bar, but if this keeps up, could it impact the team's draft position? We are still on Sidney Crosby point per game watch and that is honestly what we are watching for most at this point!
