  • The Daily Mess Set It Aside

Lifting ourselves beyond the weight of what's holding us back. We are creatures of creating mountains and walls. We were not designed to carry mental weight. The calling is to set it aside. The source behind the mountains and walls is a need to develop excuses. Accomplishment requires work. It means time. We want to live in that giant castle we dream but choose to sit in the sand. We want others to build the castle for us only to master the art of making more excuses of why we can't move in. Set it aside.

Pod Crashing Episode 242 With Celeste Headlee From Freeway

    Phantom

Between 1971 and 1972, six black girls went missing in the

Washington D.C. area. Their bodies were discarded alongside DC freeways. And
their killer was never found. The media dubbed him "The Freeway
Phantom." From iHeartRadio and Tenderfoot TV, a new podcast reinvestigates
the 50-year-old unsolved murders of these young girls. Journalist and Public
Radio veteran Celeste Headlee (NPR, PBS, TEDx) examines old case files and
interviews the investigators and family members who are still haunted by these
killings. Headlee will ask the questions: Why didn't these murders make the
news headlines? Did law enforcement do enough to solve these crimes? And how do
racial disparities impact these types of investigations, past and present?
Plus, we'll explore new evidence which may crack the cold case wide open again.

  • Wesley Lowery Creator Of BET's America In Black

    “America

    in Black” will feature
a heart-wrenching investigative piece on unnecessary amputations with
correspondent Wesley Lowery. Black Americans are up to three times more
likely to have their limbs surgically removed than the national average.
And research shows many of those amputations
were preventable. One Mississippi doctor, Cardiovascular Solutions of
Central Mississippi founder Dr. Foluso Fakorede, is making it his
mission to educate patients and is challenging Congress to act. While
Dr. Fakorede fights the epidemic, patients and their
families are forced to readjust to their new lives as amputees as they
stare down the barrel of mortality statistics following amputations.
This piece is a collaboration with ProPublica, who initially reported
    the story.
Wesley Lowery is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, author and on-air
correspondent. He currently works as a contributing editor at The
Marshall Project and a Journalist in Residence at the CUNY Newmark
Graduate School of Journalism. In nearly a decade as
a national correspondent, Lowery has specialized in issues of race,
justice and law enforcement. He led the Washington Post team awarded the
Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting in 2016 for the creation and
analysis of a real-time database to track fatal
police shootings in the United States. His project, “Murder with
Impunity,” an unprecedented look at unsolved homicides in major American
cities, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 2019. His first book,
They Can’t Kill Us All: Ferguson, Baltimore, and
a New Era in America’s Racial Justice Movement, was a New York Times
bestseller and awarded the Christopher Isherwood Prize for
Autobiographical Prose by the LA Times Book Prizes.

  • The Beautiful Art Of Forgetfulness

What's the story? Forgetfulness? I live a Google Calendar lifestyle. Always on the run. I am a prep whore. Yet I forgot my recording tools in a black box, in a dark room on the floor. My mother had dementia. Sadly I think my sister had it as well. I had to do research. Always seek a profession because Google isn't good at self diagnosis. It's always nice to know that each day is a new step toward different beginnings. We all fear forgetting things. Especially the tools that lead us toward success.
