Ahoy hoy! While we work on bringing you more episodes, I decided to try my hand in audio commentary. Every Friday in summer I will record audio commentaries for romcoms, or as I like to call them, Romcommentaries, and digest the films in both a structured and more realistically unstructured discussion about the power of cinematic love. You can listen to the commentary while watching the film, or enjoy it as a solo piece. There are no rules.
This week Troy dives head first into Preston Sturges' 1941 classic The Lady Eve. He goes over the history of the screwball comedy, talks about the career of Preston Sturges, and idolizes the performances of Barbara Stanwyck and Henry Fonda. After contextualizing, Troy finds it hard to get through this one (as he would rather watch it), but nonetheless gets it done, snakes and all. After all, let us be crooked, but never common.
*The score accompanying the opening historical context is taken from the Criterion Collection Bluray menu, and should be credited to the film itself. In lieu of providing a proper composer (there isn't one), I have included the opening titles as reference. I do not own anything.*
