Futoshi Matsunaga grew up in a well-to-do family, with a loving mother and grandmother. He was poised to inherit the family business from his father, and he seemed to be a hit with the ladies as well. He was charming and also smart. On the surface, it did not look like he was lacking for anything, and yet deep down inside, Matsunaga nursed a taste for sadism and murder.

Pınar had just graduated from university and had plans to move back home in time for Eid. What was supposed to be a short shopping spree at the local mall turned into an intense 5-day search for the young woman from Bitlis. Where had Pınar gone and who was she with?

Thailand, at the end of the Sino-Japanese War, became home to a few Chinese immigrants who were looking to settle down in a new home. One of the immigrants looking for a new life was a lanky man named Si Ouey. He fought in the war but wanted to start a better life after experiencing the harrowing nature of being on the battlefield. Little did the Thai know, however, that their new neighbour, who mainly worked as a gardener when he first arrived in Thailand, would not remain the quiet and mysterious Chinese man for long. His name would become synonymous to that of a boogeyman, stories of which used to scare naughty children into behaving. But are the murderous stories about Si Ouey really true? Decades later, the handling of Si Ouey’s case by the Thai would be out into serious question.

Jessica Wongso and Mirna Salihin quickly formed a friendship after meeting in Australia and realising that they were both from Indonesia. After graduating from their college courses in Australia, the two friends chose different paths, with Jessica staying back in Australia and with Mirna heading back to Indonesia. Despite the distance, the two remained friends, but a quick visit from Mirna to Australia years later changed this once-close relationship forever. With Jessica falling on some hard times sometime later, she decided to go back to Indonesia and execute a revenge plan against her own friend, Mirna, with fatal consequences.

Asia In The Shadows is a true crime podcast hosted by Filipino-German Christine Abrigana. Christine is also known as the host of Lagim: A Filipino True Crime Podcast. She is a former lawyer, an avid traveller and someone who is fiercely proud of her Filipino and Asian roots. 
This was the main reason why Asia In The Shadows was created. This podcast will highlight crime stories from all over Asia, the largest and most diverse continent on the planet. In a genre that is largely dominated by Western podcasters and stories. True crime as a genre is therefore in need of a fresh infusion of stories from Asia that will not only look at the individuals involved but also at the unique cultures they find themselves in. As diverse as Asia is, some human conditions remain uniform and relatable for everyone - a reason to listen to this podcast no matter where you are from.
