Growing Up 

What would you think of me now?

I've done my best to make you proud.

I've done all the things you dreamed about, more or less

You used to walk in daydreams

I remember how deeply you'd feel things

Always lost in your imaginings, barefoot, in your long dress

I became a person that now makes me cringe

The way I never learned how to be a friend

I even contemplated bringing myself to an end, I confess

But you were always in the back of my mind

So innocent, hopeful, happy, and kind

Every day so determined to find

That magic light inside, a true princess

Although I hope that you’d be proud

Of the person that I am now

I wonder if you’d wish I’d gone a different route

done more or less of the things you dreamed about
