Assorted Crates

Greetings and salutations for the new year. Starting of the new year with some revived energy, and ready to take in the sunlight.I’m hopeful for 2023. It shows promise and I’ve positioned myself to do bigger things. I took a step back in many aspects of my professional life. Let’s see how it goes. There is no time like the present, and December is the time to throw down. Assorted Crates 171 does a thing.

We are counting down towards the end of 2022. It’s been a ride but we’re here now. I’ve extend the run time for a full hour mix of straight piano fire. I’ve been testing out the new Pioneer XDJ-RX3 and record the mix directly on it. Hence all the effects and the randomness that pops in every now and then. I’m getting back in the habit of dropping these more frequently, and the mixes being more curated as opposed to random club mixes. Progress I guess.

I’ve been in a somber mood over the last few days. Watching Black Panther it’s own experience. This week’s assorted crate is a reflection on life, and words more meaningful. It’s more of a curated blend of songs than a DJ mix. Hopefully you’ll be able to take whatever words mean something to you. A reminder to take it easy on yourself, and take care of yourself the best way you can.

Back to my irregularly scheduled programing, I’m closing October off with a new addition and edition to Assorted Crates.

Honestly, i thought I’d have time to do more this month, build up a level of consistency. It’s a bit challenging at the moment because, I’m trying to get some things off the ground. Some concepts that need building. Many things and a few things at the same time. Hoping 2023 is a kinder year, and the best way to that goal is preparation.

It’s that time of year once again. Yes, it is officially my birthday month… and I’ve put together a mix of everything under the sun.

It is about 4am at the time of writing this. I most likely will not come back to make edits, so do bare with my train of thought. I’ve been sick for most of the week, dealt with a personal loss the week before. I really debated whether or not i was going to put this out or re-record the whole mix. Perhaps it was the weird sleep cycle or the medication, but waking up at midnight was the inspiration I needed.

The mix for this Friday starts off with some old school hip hop jams, dipping into the sounds of R&B, dance hall, and afrobeat. I really do hope that you enjoy the tunes. The day is finally here, the overdue return of Assorted Crates, back from a force hiatus.

Sorry for the wait. I felt like I was building momentum after my last break, only for my laptop to get damaged on a random night. I quite literally ran the risk of losing everything. After after 2 months of sourcing parts and having it fixed, I’m still emotional about it, I’m still paranoid about it… I’ll figure it out. I’m just glad I can share what I love to do.

I’ll have to get back into my cycle, meaning the next mix may only be up towards the end of September. My perspective on my craft has shifted, and I have other things to put in motion right now.

For today, I’ve put together a 199 minute behemoth of a mix, mostly house music but a good blend of things. Take care and enjoy the tunes.

Taking a trip back to the roots of it all to this edition of Assorted Crates.I celebrated Africa Day by recording a mix peppered with tunes from across the diaspora, and some influenced by the sounds of the continent… even though it’s a week late at this point. For some reason, something just felt off, it might have been the full moon but it felt better to wait, and put this out when i was in a better space for it. I put 164 together with R&B in mind for the winter weeks ahead, some tunes to bounce to close off the month of May.I wanted to record something more chilled with this, more… eclectic if that’s even the word for it. I”m still getting my head around my own process. Patience is the key and i hope to extend that to myself for a time to come. I hope you do too. Do take care of yourselves out there.
