NATA 2023 was an amazing time and we enjoyed every minute of it. While we were there we hosted a “live” podcast recording where past and future guests came by to talk about convention and what it means to them and the innovation they had seen over their AT career.
We got to do this at the Mueller Sports Medicine booth and reflect on all they had done over 60 years in sports medicine. This is part 1 of 2 of that recording. Thanks again to everyone that came by and looking forward to more recordings coming soon.

If you’ve followed Joel on social media you may have seen his posts on #ATAT where he takes concepts from outside of the profession that impact people in how they interact with people and lead and applies them to the athletic training profession. The goal these audio recordings are to take those posts and expand on them through the audio format (maybe longer form print in the future as well). This is an introductory episode to highlight what is coming. If you find these helpful, please let us know. If it is clogging up the ATChat feed, we would also like to hear that as well so we don’t take away from the other episodes.
Thank you all for listening and we hope you enjoy.

The drive home seemed like a great time to reflect on NATA 2023 and everything it brings to the attendees and how it impacted me personally this year. We have a couple new things coming for the podcast and look forward to getting those out along with all the stories of athletic trainers across the country. Thank you all for listening.

Dr. Breitbach has done a lot in his career and worked in many different settings prior to moving into academics. From there he has been a program director and now works as a vice dean and professor and his research focuses on interprofessional education and collaborative practice. Dr. Breitbach has been deeply involved with this area of research and education through the courses he teaches at Saint Louis University.
We have Dr. Kim Barber Foss on the podcast before but many things have changed for here since that time, including her credentials. As you see it is now Dr. Barber Foss. In our first conversation with her we discussed clinical research and how it is important to have clinic influenced research to help keep the scientific community moving forward. Since then Dr. Barber Foss made a huge switch from being in the secondary setting for the past 30 years to now working entirely in research.
When we kicked off ATChat there wasn’t much for Athletic Trainer podcasts and then there were several, another one right in Wisconsin. So we had to get together. In this episode we sit down with Chad and Kevan of the Candid Athletic Trainer podcast. We met up at Mueller Sports Medicine in the M Center to talk athletic training, how both of the podcasts got started and then we just let it go from there.
See you at #NATA2023
Ashley Peper is an athletic trainer in Waco Texas who works in the clinic but also does outreach to several small schools in the surrounding area. On top of these responsibilities she has also taken on the marketing efforts for the sports medicine team that she works with. Having no official marketing background it has been something new and that she has learned to do on the fly. In this episode we talk about what she has been doing when it comes to marketing, what has been most effective and things she thinks that any athletic trainer can try and put into their own practice to help market what they do.
We had the opportunity to sit down with Jennifer Rheeling who is in AT in the high school setting in Washington D.C. Along with doing her work in the high school, Jennifer has been instrumental in getting D.C. set up with established licensure laws that will athletic trainers to utilize all their skill sets. It has been and continues to be a unique experience and one that we learned a lot from.
