The story is amazing and shows just how far the skillset and knowledge of athletic trainers can go.
This conversation covers a lot when it comes to leadership in athletic training and why this has become such a focus for Dr. Kutz. You will hear about the importance of a specific aspect of Domain 5 and why Dr. Kutz thinks it is so important, not only within the profession of athletic training but helping the community understand what we our profession can do. Guido Van Ryssegem is a certified athletic training along with a registered nurse among so many other things. Guido has a really unique story to getting where he is. That has led him to finding a really deep and unique way to look at movement and athletic training. Guido focuses on proprioception, dynamic systems theory and other high level movement concepts when working with his athletes.
In this episode we get deep into proprioception. So deep into what it is and how we should be training it we didn’t have enough time. We also didn’t get to the AT Chat questions because Guido had so much good information to share. This one will change your mind on how you think about proprioception and potentially how you might go about training it in the future. Check it out.

Karli Collins has done a little bit of everything in her career thus far and continues to do so. We got to sit down with Karli and we covered a range of topics. The main topic we focused on what the EMT certification that Karli obtained early in her career and has kept up with. The EMT certification isn’t overly common in the athletic training community but there are professionals that have it and it could make sense for an AT to have that skill set. Karli provides great and unique insight into that topic of conversation.
We also discuss the transition in education that the profession is going through and how that impact many of the future professionals in athletic training. With most programs being 2+ years with so much information to teach, is it possible to get everything in? Should we be getting everything in during that time and where/how does it all fit? Some unique perspective on how it could all work and potential priority to certain aspects of what athletic trainers do.
Enjoy.

We wanted to give a quick explanation as to why we have a new ad on the podcast? First, it is an ad for the platform that hosts us so we wanted to share the amazing work they have done and how easy it is to get going on a podcast.
Second, we are working on a new project we will be rolling out here in just a few weeks and support for the project can come directly from just continuing to listen to the show. We hope the ad doesn't change your experience and if you want to discuss, let us know at [email protected].
Thanks everyone.
Rob Dicks does just a little bit of about everything. Not only does Rob wear multiple hats as an athletic trainer, he goes beyond that with administrative duties, community volunteering and his mentorship.
In this episode we talk about two major topics that all athletic trainers probably have a connection to. The first one is mentoring and mentorship. Rob has a unique place in his mentorship roles and how many people that he provides a listening ear to and guidance when they need it. Rob also flips mentorship on its head and is very aware about what he can learn from younger professionals and the importance of staying open to that possibility.
The other main area we discuss is multi-taking, a cornerstone of every athletic trainers professional life. Rob is extremely busy and it can be easy to let one area of life bleed into another. Rob discusses how he approaches handling all the responsibilities placed on him. Rob discusses some great insight and takeaways to try and implement to help juggle all responsibilities.

Andrea Dosedla is not only doing fantastic work in the industrial setting for AT she is out to try and blaze a new path for athletic trainers. Andrea is right in the middle of opening up, as she refers to it, a community athletic training room; MKE Injury & Recovery.
We discuss everything that has gone into the process thus far and how Andrea has been able to put it all together. We also get deep into the weeds of what it takes to get something like this off the ground and how that works for athletic trainers, mainly, what do you do with physician oversight. Andrea has some unique insight and is really going at things in a way that ensures that she is covered and when it is all cleared she will be ready to practice at the highest level, and legally.
A lot to take out of this episode and it is well worth the listen if you are looking at an entrepreneurial journey as an athletic trainer.
