Eli Kassab is an athletic trainer that currently works in the sport setting but has done a little bit of everything, including spending some significant time in high level football. Through all of this, Eli found himself getting burned out from the constant go of the profession. This led Eli to find some new opportunities to break the cycle of burnout and see what else might be next in his career.
In this episode we talk about burnout and how an athletic trainer might be able to handle it if they find themselves moving that direction. Eli has some very unique insight into options that ATCs can find to help with a case of burnout. This might be very applicable in mid-April and we find ourselves at home with maybe more time on our hands than we thought. Great episode, Enjoy. www.athletictrainingchat.com

Jeremy Jackson is the founder and host of the Sports Medicine Broadcast and an athletic training podcasting OG. In this episode we discuss athletic training podcasting and what it has meant to the profession and helping connect everyone. There has been an increase over the past year or so and for someone that was first in the game, Jeremey has a very unique perspective on what it means for the profession overall.
We also get into a discussion on Jeremy’s theme for the year, “I am not strong enough.” It might seem that it has a negative connotation but Jeremy has a unique take on what that means to him and how it can actually help improve the overall quality of his life and others by including more people into making things happy. Fascinating take and a lot of good information to take away. Enjoy.

Chris Matarazzo is an athletic training with Vanderbilt University and works with their baseball team. Austin was down there for a clinical rotation (which unfortunately got cut short) and got to sit down with Chris and talk everything baseball and how to work towards your dream job,.
Chris talks about career progression and being patient as you work through the different phases of your career. Things don’t always happen as quickly as we would like them to but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen in the future. You have to be strategic about how you work to get yourself there.
Another highlight of this episode is how Vanderbilt works through the medical model and how that relationship has worked with athletics. A lot of good information in this episode.

We are in unprecedented times with COVID-19 and it has thrown so many people into uncertainty. For athletic trainers this can lead to a lot of new down time or potentially some hard times. There has been a lot of great information out there on things we can work on, not only for ourselves in our settings but also for the profession.
We wanted to throw in some other ideas from both a students perspective and also something a little deeper beyond EAPs and P&Ps (necessary but let’s be honest, not the most enjoyable thing to work on).
For everyone out there, thank you for all that you do and please stay safe. More episodes to come.

Evan Craft is an athletic trainer with the Super Bowl Champion, Kansas City Chiefs. Evan and Joel know each other back from their time at the University of Kansas about 10 years ago. While Evan did work some football while at KU he also spent a lot of time with track & field. That may not seem like a direct shot to the NFL but it has worked out for him and that is what we talk about.
Career progression is something a lot of athletic trainers go through as they move through different locations and job settings. Evan discusses how he got to where he is now and how important it can be in not only the connections you make but also the importance of what you know and even more important, how you go about your work. This is a great episode with a lot of good advice, please enjoy.
