  • Ep. 49: Dr. Spencer Connell-DAT and Industrial AT

Spencer Connell is at the time of this published episode officially has completed his DAT, congrats Spencer. When we recorded this episode Spencer was in process and getting close to the end and we discussed his pursuit of the DAT and what benefit the program would have not only to his clinical skills but also his advocacy for the profession.

Beyond that, we discussed Spencer’s work in a couple different industrial settings. This is an area that is definitely up and coming in athletic training and one that as a profession we can have a huge impact on people’s lives and benefit the company that they work for. Spencer is very passionate about advancing the AT profession forward and will be a huge advocate for people looking at the industrial setting.

Lots to learn in this one and a bright outlook to the future. Enjoy.

  • Ep. 47: Race in Athletic Training-A Roundtable Discussion

Racism is wrong. Hate can’t be accepted. Just not being “racist” is not enough to propel change. In order to help create change, we have to listen, work to comprehend and accept the fact that those in privileged positions can never understand what diverse people go through.

ATChat hasn’t put a statement out because we needed to listen and learn from people that experience racism on potentially daily basis. We denounce any form or racism or hate, not only within the athletic training community but in the world in general. We will do more to help be part of the change that is needed to increase equality and work with our diverse professionals to succeed and feel safe while doing so.

This roundtable discussion on Race in Athletic Training is a starting point and we can’t think Krystal, Ryan, Mercedes, Andrew, Brandon, Susan, Mike and Austin for being a part of the conversation and education. We held this roundtable to listen, learn, and find opportunities to try and make things better.

#blacklivesmatter, racism and hate are still a problem. We need to do better and look forward to the opportunities to continue the conversation and do our part to make things better.

Please find more resources in the notes and on the webpage for this episode.

Craig is an ATC in the high school setting as well as a teacher. Along with his role in the clinical setting Craig does a lot of work with essential oils and their benefits to injury, the healing process, and rehabilitation.

In this episode we discuss with Craig how he got int essential oils and how he has been able to put that into practice not only with his own injuries but also with the student-athletes he works with. • Ep. 43: Kim Barber Foss-Clinical Research

Kim is an athletic training at the high school level but is also very involved in clinical research through Cincinnati Children Hospital. In this episode we talk a lot about research and how it can be beneficial to athletic trainers to get involved in research and apply it to their clinical setting.

Kim has worked on some of the very highest level projects when it comes to ACL injury and has been able to take everything she does in the lab and apply it directly to her work in the clinical setting. Kim discussed the evidence based tripod and how important it is acknowledge all three pillars.
