Drew Linsalata sold 1100 books in 40 days --- with no launch team or heavy marketing. But it's critical for authors to understand HOW he did that, because it certainly wasn't as simple as posting once to social media and watching the sales flood in!
This fascinating conversation with "the accidental bestseller" reveals:

- Suggestions for moving forward through dialogue and action
- How to have the "right" conversations with the "right" people (and when)
- How the emergence of black programming (BET, Blackish, etc.) has affected perspectives

In the second of 4 segments of my initial conversation with Markiss Stone about race, social injustice, and the current state of our country.
In this episode, we touched upon:
- Why we NEED to see race
- The difference between overt and covert racism (plus, which is more hurtful short- and long-term)
- Why "I understand what you're saying BUT..." is one of the most ineffective ways to respond to someone when it comes to truly moving our individual and collective understanding forward.
- Why "All Lives Matter" and "Black Lives Matter" are two entirely different statements.
- Why "Talking to the right people at the right time" has such profound impact when it comes to having the tough conversations.

Story. Experience. Perspective. It's what impactful books are all about.
My friend Markiss Stone and I got together to have a black and white conversation about race and current events in this country.
Unbiased and with no agenda other than moving the conversation forward through understanding.
It's time for everyone to feel comfortable telling their stories and connecting with the right people at the right time so we can all move to a new level of understanding.
Within Part 1 of this 4-part interview, we discuss:
"The truth of the matter is that there are a lot of people who know, deep down in their heart, that this is wrong, but they're afraid to speak out about it because of fear of what their friends, their family, or their co-workers are going to think of them. -- Markiss Stone

Lance has lived a pretty eventful life, but one thing it’s never been was easy. Throughout his journey, he has had to overcome some incredible challenges and adversities, which led him to rise from rock bottom on more than one occasion.
From almost playing professional hockey to traveling the world running some of the top bars in Australia, he has never lived a dull moment. Although he has a ton of life experience through travel and living in different countries, he also has had to face some very difficult times.
He battled with drugs and alcohol all through his twenties and had to overcome the loss of his younger brother to suicide as well as his father to cancer--both within a span of eighteen months.
After hitting rock bottom for the second time in his life, he made a promise to himself that he would create a new life that was going to have meaning, value, and fulfillment. He made it his mission to show that even though once can be faced with adversity at the worst possible moments in life, there is hope, and there is always a light at the end of the dark tunnel.
Since making the shift away from being a bar manager two years ago, he has gone on to hone his skill as an internet marketer, which allowed him to excel in the area of social media and realize his true purpose: building connections with human beings. With those skills, he has been able carve out a new path and dive into the podcast world.
He has since created the top 200 podcast, “University of Adversity,“ which has allowed him to interview incredibly unique and inspiring human beings with incredible stories of overcoming adversity. He dives into their story and extracts the gold-filled practical lessons listeners can apply in their lives. The show showcases and highlights bravery, courage, and the undeniable resilience one must have in order to overcome life’s obstacles.
Because of the fulfillment podcasting brought him, he decided to take his podcast reality one step further, and co-found IGNiTE: Podcasting with Purpose, which allows successful professionals and busy entrepreneurs the chance to bring their dream of podcasting to life without having to sacrifice the time it takes to create and learn all that is required as well as make sure all valuable content is created and distributed on all social media platforms.
He continues to follow his passion of connecting with people and striving to be an inspirational influence while living a life of purpose and impact.

In the second half of this incredible conversation with Daniel Bruce Levin, author of The Mosaic, we dive deeper into the 4 connections we all have in this life (Self, Source, Purpose, Others) as well as Danny's 4 steps to create greater connection with oneself:
1. DO UNTO YOURSELF: Because we are so inherently unkind to ourselves, it's necessary to flip the adage around
2. EMBRACE VULNERABILITY: The fact is, when my wall’s not up, I experience you and can give back to you. As Danny says, "The lie has become so easy to believe that we call it the truth. And the truth has become so easy to believe that we call it a lie.” When we listen to people’s stories, the picture we begin to see is completely different to the person we first saw.
3. LIVE PURPOSEFULLY: Do what you came here to do! Once we allow ourselves to become vulnerable, things start to come into us and go out from us. The outside world will always reflect what’s going on in the inside world. As soon as we can put into our GPS what our destination is, the road to where we’re going is clear. If you have no idea why you’re here or where you’re going, every road will take you there.
[HOLY YES MOMENT] When you ask someone what they were came here to do and they answer, "I don’t know," the simple translation of those three words is, “I’m scared of what would happen if I actually knew what I’m here to do because I don’t feel good enough to do it.”
Danny lets you in on the simply question that helps you authentically answer the question, “What did you come here to do?”
4. BUILD YOUR MOSAIC: Purposefully place the pieces that will take you in the direction you want to go.
If you want to tell your story, but believe your topic has already been covered, this podcast is just for you!
If you struggle to feel connection in this increasingly disconnected world, this episode is for you!
The purpose of The Mosaic is to help people see what they’ve never seen before and experience "unzip the sky moments," moments when we become open to the idea that, as we unzip the sky above and see through to the other side, that new perspective changes the whole story.

“A great story doesn’t directly say anything, but it hints at everything”
-Daniel Bruce Levin
This podcast could easily be titled The 97% Agreement: The Significance of Connection because Danny and I agreed to disagree 3% of the time.
We live in the most connected time the world has ever known, and we feel more alone than we ever have, which is why it was such an honor to interview Daniel Bruce Levin, author of The Mosaic. The conversation got so deep and raw, in fact, that we decided to split it into two podcasts.
Daniel has accomplished and experienced a magnificent amount. A connectivity expert and business leader, he works with governmental organizations, corporations and businesses to improve how people treat themselves and each other. Sharing a message of unification, he is a popular speaker for groups whose focus is on problem-solving, innovation and conflict resolution.
His thoughts around the concept of the book people think they are writing versus the book they are actually writing are fascinating. In short, “When we marry who we write about to who we are, we end the moment in time for our experience" and the result clarifies "how to marry the book that you needed to read with the concepts that you’ve lived since that point in time."
He also answers the question about why, of all the people who could have written this book, he was the least likely person to have actually done it.
The Mosaic, which is endorsed by Sonia Choquette, Arielle Ford, Caroline Myss (among others) has been touted as the new coming of The Alchemist (though Daniel hadn't read The Alchemist before penning The Mosaic), and, in his words, "Writing the book was erasing most of what I wrote because I was finding myself in the process."
We talk about how and when being an over-thinker is actually a good thing as well as how we are all punching ourselves in the face (metaphorically speaking) every single day. (Hint: you think you need protection from others; the person you need protection from is yourself.)
