The Colorado Avalanche had probably their worst opening night ever Wednesday night in Las Vegas, but it didn't initially start that way!

Mikko Rantanen scored the first goal of the season, and an eventual hat trick, but the Vegas Golden Knights got two quick goals at the end of the first period. Whenever the Avalanche did anything to pull back to within a goal, Vegas took the momentum back almost immediately.

In the end, it was an ugly 8-4 loss for the Avs.
