The Colorado Avalanche and the Pittsburgh Penguins both had something to play for. The Avs could have been sitting atop the Central Division with a win while the Penguins would have crept back into a Wild Card spot for the playoffs. The Penguins seemed to want their playoff spot more than the Avs wanted divisional clout.

The Avs six game winning streak came to a crashing stop Wednesday night as the Penguins made life difficult for Colorado, getting them off their game and forcing them to be inconsistent with their style of play. The Avs grinded, and even pulled to within one following a Devon Toews power play goal, but a rebuttal goal and then an empty netter sealed this games fate.

The Avs also let Jeff Carter skate around the ice untouched. Which is a little odd considering this was the first time the teams faced each other since Carter sent Cale Makar to miss time with a concussion thanks to Carter's elbow. Nothing? Why that is concerning.
