  • Avenue Red Podcast #137 - Micha Lensink
For Avenue Red Podcast 137 we welcome Amsterdam selector Micha Lensink, who has delivered a vinyl-only mix of grooving dancefloor-friendly 4/4 records. The label "tech house" has been grotesquely misappropriated over the past decade, however in the case of this mix it's the perfect description for the selection of sounds featured.
Micha boldly joins the dots between disparate tracks with a variety of different moods and atmospheres, constantly mixing old with new to show his intellect, skill and panache as a DJ who can really hold a groove. Get it downloaded and carry it with you at all times! Share it and repost it on Soundcloud to help get it out there to show people what real tech house sounds like ;)
"I've been around working in the background of Amsterdam's club scene for some 5 years now, most notably Cruquiusgilde and BRET and hosting my own (after)parties with Raftaf. After years of absorbing impressions and music like a sponge I'm starting to step out of the shade and focusing more on playing myself.
The mix I sent is recorded after one of those endless summer nights at a private afterhours. It consists of a lot of deep goodies from the mid 90's to early 00's that still sound incredibly fresh, mixed with some more contemporary stuff I discovered lately." Micha Lensink, August 2019

  • Avenue Red Podcast #136 - Caillou
For this instalment of the Avenue Red Podcast we welcome Caillou, a Parisian music collector, DJ and organiser of events with his Chateau Chépère crew. Here he has sent us a mix with a distinct anti-capitalist theme, perhaps with a nod to the recent gilets jaunes movements and is aptly titled "Liberté, Égalité". It features various recorded samples and some of the finest deep house going, blended with a classy mixing style. This is a truly adorable, soulful mix that is sure to grow on anyone with taste.
The following text is from the man himself, Pierre Caillou

I recorded this mix for Avenue Red following a gig I did with my acolyte Starsand at a party organised by the amazing crew La Sacrée Déter in Lausanne a few month back in an old movie theater reconverted into a club (Le Bourg, Lausanne). All the records in the mix were in my bag for that night. In this mix you'll find recent cuts by artists pushing the deeper side of house and a few personal classic cuts at the end. Melancholic late night club music!
I'd like to thank Alec for his kindness in his exchanges with me and his priceless advice. I've found out so much good music through this Avenue Red podcast series, so I couldn't be happier to contribute to this channel that is driven by love for music. Hopefully you like the mix.
I'd like to dedicate this mix to the memory of Steve Maia Caniço, who was killed by the French police's intervention at a free party in Nantes, at 4am on June 21, 2019.

  • Avenue Red Podcast #135 - De Yan
Dejan Dex (from Macedonia) as we formerly knew him, has returned for his second contribution to Avenue Red Podcast under a new alias: De Yan (from North Macedonia). Possibly the only time an artist has ever, or indeed will ever come to us as a different name in a different country, without even bothering to move house.
Here De Yan takes us through a tripping, grooving 4/4 wonderland of freaky tech house tracks, strongly reminiscent of those halcyon days from the heyday of the genre... think Plastic City, Wiggle, London Housing Benefit etc. Over time we always see that names change, cities get new badges, football clubs get new owners, borders move... Nothing stays the same, but true quality echoes out for eternity, sharding out into many different manifestations. This mix is De Yan's vision of the current deeper shades tech house sound of 2019. Enjoy!

  • Avenue Red 1210 Mk10 - Rubsilent
Surely no introduction is needed for our Istanbul correspondent: Hamza Solim AKA Rubsilent. If you need one, see the links to previous episodes below.
After delivering 5 mind-boggling selections on the main series, followed by another to celebrate 5 years of Avenue Red, we now see him turn out a mix for our 1210 sister series, which is a nod to the oldskool and Technics 1210 turntables. The DJ must select 12 records that are 10+ years old... yet in Rubsilent (as with Paul Rimbaud before him on the previous episode) we have another rule breaker! We could trust he'd be greedy and need to play just one more tune - he has that gene. Enjoy this pro selection from a true master.

  • Avenue Red Podcast #134 - Heerd
Avenue Red Podcast 134 comes from Heerd, a DJ and production duo made up of 2 Romanians: George Olaru and Stroe Ionut, who are both based in Bucharest. Following on from 3 awesome Avenue Red mixes from George alone, the duo made a special mix for Avenue Red after getting together for a recent studio session. The result is a wonderful hour of breezy, entrancing, seductive 4/4 grooves that shimmer and glow with the true Heerd sound.
"The mix showcases the Heerd sound, which is very groovy, melodic and packed with off-kilter unpredictable tracks. We mixed between records we like to play at parties or simply to listen to at home, making for an ideal podcast selection for the hi-fi, the headphones, the car or any commute from A to B.
Regarding our production output we are working continuously to evolve and enrich our sounds, which we hope will shine through in our upcoming releases. August will see the release of our 2nd EP on Canadian label COTEOF, and in the near future we will release our 'Windursfers' track on Romanian label Unutrei. Keep in touch for new releases in Autumn-Winter as well ;)" George Olaru, July 2019

  • Avenue Red Podcast #133 - Georges White
Well, this is one hell of a mix! It's an utterly dazzling performance, a 3-hour marathon run through all of the key music that is/has been the most important and influential to the DJ. We'll let the French man with the skills, Georges White, talk the rest with his words and this rock-solid mix.
"Born in the north east of France, since childhood I've been passionate about music, digging aimlessly and secretly through the vinyl collection of my father, going to the roots of blues and soul music, while also checking out the kraut and psychedelic side of 70's rock of Pink Floyd and Tangerine Dream. This took me pretty naturally towards listening to electronic music very young, to the new wave and cold sound of Depeche Mode, The Human League or New Order while I was always obsessed by black music and listening to hip hop, funk and disco before discovering house and techno in the early 90's. It was unconsciously but already clear for me that music is like a journey into life itself and it will made mine for a long time.
Thanks to radio shows on Maxximum or later Couleur 3 and the reviews from influential journalists like Didier Lestrade in Liberation then in Coda. Through the years I've developed an insatiable thirst for new sounds and attitudes, creations, all that we called at that time culture. That explains my bent for groove in all forms and mixtures. But I'm firstly a 'searcher head' musical lover, moved by his passion for music and arts, whatever the boundaries of styles or countries of origin, letting inner moods and emotions drive the way, where simply 'when it sounds good I play'. Wherever life brings you, in the south or the north of France, where I met nice, special and inspirational people behind music too, among many others DJ Bouto from La Bande Adhésive, who gave me my first gig at la Poudrière in Belfort or later Steve Sibra, host of the 'Laboratoire Sonore' radio show in Montpellier, where I made many free-focused reviews during twelve years. Every meet is like a gate to a new universe, an opportunity of discovering something else you did'nt know before. A new territory. That's my point about music too.
The main idea behind this session is to gather and link all the artists, labels and styles I have loved over the years in one take, melting emotions and grooves selected in this mid-year area. As the confrontation of atmospheres, life/world changes, past and present building another future, furtive thoughts and perceptions refracted and flowed through the body and soul, this session would dive you deep into this intimate experience, when time, music and people are connected to each other. Love, passion and pleasure are the only red wire through all tracks here and the story they tell together. Like an instant photography of my current situation, this is the soundtrack of my new life. I hope you'll enjoy it!!" Georges White, July 2019

  • Avenue Red Podcast #132 - Substak
Avenue Red presents a mix by Athens-based Substak, another wildly deep DJ/producer from Greece on the series. This is a magical and unique mix full of hypnotic, dubby, peculiar house & techno vibes, played nice and slow.
    >>>>>>>> Why Avenue Red?
Substak: Cause inflated egos, big names and artificially manufactured hype are no interest to me either.
    >>>>>>>> What about your mix?
Substak: For those that have heard me or not, my mix is like the others. Nothing different, focus on music, track selection featuring works I want others to hear and feel also. I prefer to push music from the not so well known DJ's & producers, it's never about the new tracks or "top charted" or any other nonsense fad metric with me.
The mix starts with more calm, ambient sounds that passes you to dub techno sounds, then to close with more dark and techno sounds. As I say, no more words... just let the music speak ;)
    >>>>>>>> About now?
Substak: Future releases have been scheduled, I am always open to new things & collaborations.
Hope a 12" release to come soon, it's the one thing that I haven't made so far. And of course I will not stop with Avenue Red, this was just a beginning. I'm happy to work with this podcast, which is one that I notice will continue to push out episodes from the same DJ's rather than just being a 1-stop shop.

  • Avenue Red Podcast #131 - Elistratov
For this episode of the Avenue Red Podcast we welcome Elistratov, a keen record collector and DJ of the deeper realms who hails from Moscow, Russia. We noticed his mixes were always short but very sweet, often around 50 minutes in duration. His all-vinyl sets are compact, perfectly crafted trips through tight, intricate selections of deep house & techno futurism that is delicate, seductive and groovy in equal measure.
The way he glues his sounds together so seamlessly is very inspirational and if you're not paying close attention, the mixing seems totally invisible, imperceptible. Each record is like a piece of a jigsaw puzzle... no missing pieces, no damaged edges, everything fits together perfectly and the final picture is sharp and beautiful.
"I have been in love with electronic music since childhood. As a result of colossal personal practice, with my unique selection of material and the presentation of my own style, my mixes have reached levels that I am becoming increasingly satisfied with." Vasily Elistratov, June 2019

  • Avenue Red Podcast #130 - Running Hot
Avenue Red welcomes Running Hot, a London-based party and DJ duo with a monthly radio show on Music Box Radio. These guys are true diggers and play from any time or place on the globe where they found a good record, according to their fine tastes of course.
These guys a very cultured selectors with a lot of musical knowledge between them, with monstrous prowess technically, as each mix of theirs is like a witches brew of weird and wonderful stuff. This mix is timed nicely to get us all warmed up for the northern summer... something eclectic, refreshing and quite unique.
"We usually try to think of a theme when we're doing a mix. With this one we were trying to put together something a bit more club focused. Not sure we actually ended up achieving that but hope your enjoy the music anyway!" Running Hot, May 2019

  • Avenue Red 1210 Mk9 - Paul Rimbaud
The Distant Worlds label boss Paul Rimbaud is back! After his amazing mix for Avenue Red Podcast 104, here he returns to reawaken the dormant Avenue Red 1210 series, where a DJ plays 12 records that are 10+ years old... But being a right dodgy South London geezer he broke the rules and smuggled an extra 7 records into this one! :D
In this 1210 selection, Paul digs way back into the 90's ravey, trancey parts of his record collection as he delivers a perfect package that captures the true essence of this corner of dance music history.
"I seem to remember recording this mix after a few Discogs binges of cheap 90's records, although there is some old faves from the collection there too. I think nearly all these tunes should still be available on Discogs for pennies too. The idea is of old forgotten guilty pleasures, tunes that people haven't dared to play out in years but all had their moments in time; a bit of rave, proto trance, progressive house etc. Let's face it - it's gonna be audio bovril but I hope it should reignite a few memories in the lucky few of happy, carefree times!
PS. Since this mix was recorded there's definitely been a bit of an influx of that trancey, ravey sound flooding across the dance floor. See kids, everything goes in circles, the good and the bad. Peas, love and uni tees! Paul" Paul Rimbaud, 2019
