  • Avenue Red Podcast #155 - Cenk Akyol
Avenue Red has something a bit different to present here... Cenk Akyol, an exquisitely tasteful record collector from Istanbul, Turkey has provided an hour and a half-long, all-vinyl selection of eclectic beats from around the world titled: "Techno Soul 2020". Like some Turkish Gilles Peterson, Cenk has delivered a very wholesome blend of intricate, underground music - no filler!
"Since 2000, each year I record a 'Techno Soul' selection... picking tracks from those times when we went out without hesitation, on impulse, guaranteeing to hear and dance to fine underground music. A couple of new releases are included as well. I am very happy to present this year's edition through the amazing Avenue Red. Nothing but high quality house and techno with soul, to help you all get lost within the fog & strobes!" Cenk Akyol, April 2020

  • Avenue Red 1210 Mk11 - Alec Pritchard
The very first Avenue Red upload was Avenue Red 1210 Mk1 - Alec Pritchard. The title and concept of this sister series pays homage to the mainstay of vinyl DJ'ing culture... the legendary Technics 1210 Turntables, which first appeared on the market back in 1972! The DJ carefully selects 12 records, with every record being at least 10 years old, uprooting some forgotten and unheard sounds from each featured DJ's personal record collection.
Now almost 7 years after the first episode, Alec returns with Mk11... It's a strange potion of melancholic, deep, soulful, groovy, mysterious house music with some unusual electro and techno sounds also stirred into the pot. Served with a garnish of human DJ'ing soul, minor mistakes and many clicks, crackles & pops along the way.

  • Avenue Red Podcast #154 - Vlad Barocco
Following the blissful, serene ambient selection from Alessandro Crimi, which helped us to press the mental reset button, it's time to switch it up 10 levels and get back to the club zone in our living rooms and headphones. Bringing us a tight selection of fiery electro missiles, we welcome young talent Vlad Barocco from the city of Dnipro in eastern Ukraine.
This mix is short and sweet, high energy levels and invisible mixing... Vlad has kindly created a part 2 that will follow in the coming days. Stay well and let music be our medicine to help us all ride out this unusual period of isolation and carnage. Turn it up loud, close your eyes and feel the bass... you are in the club now!!!

Alessandro Crimi from St. Gallen in Switzerland returns for his next instalment on Avenue Red, exactly 1 year since his last, which was episode 125. This time Alessandro has put his mind to making a special concoction of deep ambient and trippy slow techno selections, creating an ideal audio tonic to help us all to ease our minds.
"I always wanted to record an ambient/experimental/downtempo/dub mix and now was the perfect moment for this. In these difficult times it's important to heal our mind, body & soul. • Avenue Red Podcast #152 - Submoon
Alex Tasso AKA Submoon from Taranto, South Italy is back for an introspective trip through some of his deep dubby techno records.
"Really happy to be back on this powerful mix series and I thank Alec for this opportunity to spread my mixes through his whole community. Within this mix there is everything that influences me the most, from small reverberated sounds to ethereal cords and pads. I hope this mix will distract you in some way and tell the story I thought about while selecting the records." Alex Tasso, March 2020

  • Avenue Red Podcast #151 - Code618
First we had Tim Boyd from Sydney, then for our 100th episode we had George Hysteric from Melbourne... now enter Code618 from Adelaide, Australia's 5th largest city of 1.4 million. This guy is a true veteran in the game. Here he shares a document revealing the power of profound underground knowledge and lengthy diggers experience, coupled with passion and technical aptitude as a DJ. A perfect fit for Avenue Red, what a dream of a deep mix we have here from the distant burning lands down under.
"Hi! Code618 from Adelaide, Australia here. Techno and house vinyl collector since the inception of the genres 30-odd years ago. DJ'ed regularly from 92-98 when Adelaide played the part of 'Southern Outpost' to the thriving scenes in Detroit, Europe and the UK. Being so far from anywhere and with pre internet communication, a sound and style distinct to Adelaide evolved whilst at the same time inspiration was clearly sourced from Detroit, Chicago, the UK and in particular Dutch labels such as Djax-Up-Beats, Eevolute and Shiver.
These days I try and blend the previous 3 or so decades of techno and deep house from an extensive vinyl collection with current tracks and share these sounds on guest radio mixes and for those on the same wavelength.
I'm a big fan of the Avenue Red series and with so many amazing producers and DJ's contributing it really is humbling to get the chance to pull together a mix and contribute. For this mix I took my usual approach of selecting new and old tracks for a one take, 100% vinyl session to see where it led. Spanning 1983 to 2019 and elements of house, electro and straight up techno I've added quite a few Australian labels or producers to this one as I'm proud of the output from my country and Adelaide in particular (origin of Juice Records, Undefined Recordings and Nightime Drama). Respect to all of the artists and labels in the tracklist below!
P.S. Artwork photo was taken by my wife near our house. We live surrounded by native gum trees and right next to one of Australias oldest national parks... Beautiful area however it is high risk for bush fires. Like the mix, this photo is part of the narrative and story." Code618, February 2020.

  • Avenue Red Podcast #149 - COLD
Avenue Red welcomes the second coming of Ísar Logi Arnarsson AKA COLD from Reykjavík, Iceland. As with his first mix, this one is another patchwork quilt of techno-centric (yet rather eclectic) music that is predominantly manufactured by his Icelandic peers, some of whom have featured as guests on Avenue Red themselves. Ísar has featured two of his own productions here, both on iconic underground Icelandic labels: his 2018 track Zebra on Möller Records, and secondly his Strobe Light Network track that was on the first release of Thor's Thule Records.
This mix is a work of pure wizardry. It really shines a light on the diversity, beauty and vibrancy of the music scene of this intriguing country of only 1/3 of a million people. Avenue Red is very pleased to maintain strong ties with the very talented and clued up Icelandic music heads!
"Here is my Avenue Red mix number 2! It's composed entirely of Icelandic artists, besides an intro by Orbital and an outro by Brian Eno... a full journey through various different styles. I'm sure the mood of the artwork photo, which I took in Reykjavík just after the mix was recorded, will shine through and accompany the selection nicely." Ísar Logi Arnarsson, February 2020
