  • Avenue Red Podcast #164 - Prakash
Avenue Red welcomes Prakash, an experienced DJ and producer from the Spanish island of Gran Canaria, one of the Canary Islands about 150 kilometres off the northwestern coast of Africa. Prakash is a very knowledgeable guy and has been collecting music and spinning for almost 15 years, along the way releasing stacks of masterful mixtapes and playing at some interesting gigs internationally, as well as at home. He also turned his hand to music production and running his own vinyl label, Travellin Music, where he has featured on the only release to date with a remix from Vancouver tech house legend Jay Tripwire.
Prakash is a true cross-genre DJ, but it's clear to see his strong focus on the 90's/early 2000's tech house sounds from the origin of the genre. He lists among his Music idols: Craig Richards, Terry Francis, Steve Bug, Mike Huckaby, ZIP, Move D, Kerri Chandler, Nathan Coles, Bushwacka! and Silverlining AKA Asad Rizvi. That list makes for a tidy aperitif for what's in store in this presentation, his glowing CD-length mix for Avenue Red.
"I'm Prakash from Gran Canaria. I have been sharing my music taste since 2006 when I was studying at Loughborough University in England, UK and always try to squeeze music from various genres into my sets to keep things spicy and interesting. I insisted on adding a tracklist for the trainspotters, so find it below! :)" Prakash Peswani, August 2020

  • Avenue Red Podcast #163 - Pavlov
For this next Avenue Red Podcast episode we welcome a mix from a man who has the melodic sensibilities of underground music neatly wrapped up in his own unique style. Pavlov is a master selector from the Russian capital city of Moscow, where he runs/is resident at the well-respected Теплоinside (translates as "Heat Inside") parties, where all manner of classy, deep, melodic styles rule supreme under his stewardship. We invite you to check his other mixes on his pages (linked below). Ultra classy stuff.
In this mix for Avenue Red, Pavlov has focused on the most infectious, elegant and emotive electro-styled sounds in his record box. And he really has executed it with his usual panache, with perfect transitions all the way. Prepare to be dazzled!
"In this mix I wanted to reveal the positive side of the electro style in order to see the sunsets and catch the warm wind. I know Avenue Red podcast for a long time, some of my friends from Turkey and Russia recorded mixes for this project, so glad to be next involved." Pavlov, July 2020

  • Avenue Red Podcast #162 - Ian Lane
Avenue Red is back with a fierce, techy mix of house, breaks and electro from Ian Lane, a collector and selector from the city of Galway on the west coast of The Republic of Ireland. This is yet another tough, relentlessly groovy installment in the series to prime us all for our eventual return to the smoked-out dancfloors when the clubs re-open. Ian shows what a solid DJ he is technically - this is a lesson in the flow of a pro with intricately puzzled together selections, both new & old.
"I'm loving the challenge of throwing lots of different genres together and trying to keep the mix interesting while also keeping a good flow. This mix is quite high energy and weaves through some dub techno, breaks and house. I'm very thankful to Alec for giving me the oppertunity to showcase my sound and I am humbled to see the calibre of artists and mixes that have come before me already. I'm a big fan of Avenue Red and through this page I have been introduced to some amazing music from DJ's all around the world. Thanks again and hope you enjoy my mix!" Ian Lane, July 2020

  • Avenue Red 1210 Mk12 - Code618
Our underground hero from down under in Adelaide, Australia known as Code618 steps up with his selection of 12 records, 10+ years old. Prepare to be dazzled with his stories from the 1990's, as he projects the magic of the music in his record box from a time when quality house and techno was beginning to blossom into something unstoppable. It's raw, it's real, it's the sound of the humans and the machines talking on a deep level and getting on just great.
"I spent quite a while thinking about the track selection and can honestly say each of these resonates strongly with me for a variety of reasons. I wanted to include artists and labels that form the foundation of my vinyl collection. These are tracks I can recall the first time I heard the needle drop on the vinyl surface... where I was, what I was thinking, how it made me feel... These were pieced together in the old school way – 2 venerable Technics 1200 MkII's and a mixer in between. I hope these tracks resonate in some way for you too." Code618, July 2020

  • Avenue Red Podcast #161 - Nightwalk
Avenue Red is back after a 4 week hiatus, which has given a some space for people to digest the dense schedule of mixes that came during the peak phase of global lockdown. Now we are happy to break the chains and resume the march forwards with our underground mission.
Finally we can unleash this absorbingly deep, trippy session from Nightwalk, who hails from the city of Yoshkar-Ola, capital of the Mari El Republic in Russia in the far-out, easternmost reaches of Europe. We can confirm from experience that this mix is best enjoyed loud in high quality headphones on an epic walk through the night in unusual, mysterious places with the poison of your choice. See if you can separate out the voices in your head from the edgy spoken monologues, which appear constantly throughout this 100+ minutes of acutely atmospheric deep house and techno sounds.

  • Avenue Red Podcast #160 - dubtommy
Our man in Amsterdam formerly known as Trepid returns to the Avenue Red Podcast with yet another sublime mix of deep, dubbed out, dreamy, melodic electronic music. This is his third contribution to the series, but this time under his new dubtommy alias, which he converted to last year. This is an all-vinyl mix fusing deep house with some breaks/electro cuts, a very nicely wrapped package of sweet delights to help turn up the brightness dial on our temporarily shut-in, locked-down, greyscale lives. It's time to recline and let it all flow through you, preferably at high volume.
"Before we all know it, we'll be back on the dancefloor shaking our booties off. Enjoy this mix as a warm-up for what's gonna come very soon!" dubtommy, May 2020

  • Avenue Red Podcast #159 - Heerd
We welcome the return of the versatile, exciting, ever-rising DJ/production duo known as Heerd (George Olaru & Stroe Ionut) from Bucharest, Romania. They are best known for their Romanian minimal/tech house styles both on the decks and with their brilliantly produced tracks from the studio (links below). However, following on from where they left off with Avenue Red Podcast episode 113 (https://soundcloud.com/avenue-red/podcast-113-olaru) they have provided the next chapter in their odyssey though trip-hop, downtempo and electronic-edged, experimental hip-hop. Seriously classy stuff here.
"It has been a period where we had to get comfortable staying most of the time only at home, so we listened more to ambient and downtempo styles of music, which naturally led us to recording this mix. We consider this to be the Part 2 successor of our first trip-hop & downtempo mix for Avenue Red, but with a more experimental and underground sound this time." George Olaru (Heerd), May 2020

  • Avenue Red Podcast #158 - Lera Creeper
Avenue Red has something tough, dark and clubby for you to put on loud, close your eyes and enjoy as you picture yourselves in a thumping, cavernous nightclub. They won't be opening for us anytime soon, so we will focus on helping out with the cause in our own little way for now.
Here for episode 158, Lera Creeper (real name Valerie Tsukanova) from the Ukrainian capital city of Kiev presents an hour of thundering techno, breaks and electro that is mixed perfectly and paced intelligently. Here she truly demonstrates her sharpness and technical wizardry, along with her good taste for dancefloor-centric underground selections. Turn it up. Go nuts.
"This mix was recorded during the first week of quarantine. It's dark, melancholic yet trippy, dreamy and the dancing mood reflects the way we miss the life we all had before the pandemic. If you are like me who likes different genres in one recording, then you might enjoy the combination of breaks, techno, electro, trance, minimal and ambient elements. Hope your ears will be satisfied xx" Lera Creeper, May 2020

  • Avenue Red Podcast #157 - Lisa Sawyer
Avenue Red is proud to finally present a mix from a lady from Bucharest, Romania known as Lisa Sawyer. After several submissions and endless discussions with us, she has begun to exceed herself and has eased into a unique flow and groove, purveying her own vision of deep techno/minimal/tech house music. Lisa has also been making music, which is sounding very promising with some tracks we heard having a Swayzak/Theorem-like kind of sound!
Originally hailing from the city of Ploiești, those informed can hear from what & how she plays that the vibes from Bucharest - the Romanian capital 60 km to the south where she now resides - have really rubbed off on her. She rightfully embraces that passion and classy underground style and runs with it, adding her own unique twist.
Always hypnotic and groovy, often dark and twisted, sometimes light and fun and bouncy... there's a lot to enjoy about this mix in any context. But damn it... let's hope we can hear this kind of thing coming through a booming, loud, top-end soundsystem in a dark, smoky club soon! In the meantime, turn it up, close your eyes and imagine such a room of your own choosing. And please, do add strobes and lasers in there!
"Here I present a cosmic journey to the self." Lisa Sawyer, April 2020

  • Avenue Red Podcast #156 - Torsten Brinkmann
Berlin-based master selector Torsten Brinkmann is back with a vibrant, colourful, uplifting selection of house, techno and breaks. This is his second contribution for the Avenue Red Podcast. It is condensed, short & sweet and as with all of his mixes, executed with precision and true German efficiency.
"Actually this was the first mix I recorded for a while. I took a break from DJ'ing for 2 years but never stopped digging so i had a playlist in mind already for this one. My intention was to create a short mix with a lot of energy and electronic elements, which you could have played in a club at peak time." Torsten Brinkmann, April 2020
