  • Avenue Red Podcast #174 - Elistratov
We are so pleased to bring this one forth, Moscow-based Elistratov is back for his second mix on Avenue Red! Expect more of the same as we got last time around: a focused set of radioactive, schizophrenic, eyes-wide-open neurotic deep house pulsating with insatiable grooves and transcendental soundscapes. Here we show you a real pro who has researched the landscape of deep electronic music and knows how to select, how to package it up neatly into a special product of his own. The end product is always greater than the sum of its parts with this one. Here's the news!
"I am a vinyl collector & a digger for the musical gems, also a DJ with utmost precision and experience for my craft. Being a resident of the Moscow-based label Sakskøbing, I am also a core member of the bar/record shop called Deficit in Moscow, where I am the curator... take a look and you can find thousands of records currently on the shop's Discogs page. Hope you enjoy this second submission for Avenue Red!" Vasily Elistratov, June 2019

  • Avenue Red Podcast #173 - Kruglenko
Next up on the Avenue Red Podcast is a DJ and producer from St. Petersburg, Russia known as Kruglenko. We have seen this guy around on SoundCloud thanks to the various recommendation algorithms, noticing his quality mixes and also his ear for productions are clearly getting to a high level... then he submitted a mix to us. Just shows the algorithms are functioning well over here!
What we received is a solid dancefloor-focused, heads-down and elbows-up DJ mix of driving, deep dubby techno and house. Music that is constructed in many implementations from the blueprints of the Basic Channel & Maurizio works. These are the sprawling stylistic tributaries of music that have flowed down-river since those halcyon days and humble beginnings.
We hear a lot said these days about the idiosyncratic underground house/techno scenes in France, Germany, Romania ("Rominimal") etc... something equally intriguing and vibrant continues to thrive across the vast swathes of European Russia too and we are proud to champion the players that are busy pushing their visions of underground music and culture over there too! This mix from Kruglenko will hypnotise you to your core, twist you mind and shatter your bones on a good soundsystem. Press play. It's time to breathe in the cold, dark air, close your eyes and let the strobe lights flash through your eyelids.
"Hi, Kruglenko from Saint Petersburg, Russia here. I have been a DJ and musician since 2008. I prefer the raw sound of house and techno with notes of dub and minimal. In November 2019 I debuted with a release on MixCult Records, a very good underground deeb/dub techno label from my hometown. I hope you will like this selection!" Artem Kruglenko, November 2020

  • Avenue Red Podcast #172 - Caillou
Avenue Red welcomes the second coming of the exquisitely tasteful, refined deep house and techno selector from Paris known as Caillou. Here he has delivered a mix not too dissimilar to his first, but has pushed a little deeper into the dreamier, sleepier territories of his unique record collection.
"I'd like to thank Alec for the opportunity to contribute again to Avenue Red.
I wanted to do something deep and mellow but with tracks that I actually play at parties when I get early morning slots, just pitched down a bit to have a more home listening feel. So all the tracks in there have been tested on dancefloors, but hopefully this is a mix you can listen to at home if you're stuck inside.
Shout out to the bosses Matt Pond (https://soundcloud.com/deepsystems) and Cosmicsou (https://soundcloud.com/souhail88) for coining the term Sleephouse, which I think suits this style of house music, and to all the artists featured in here for their amazing and inspiring work.
Here's full tracklist hints for all the diggers ;)
    Udmo (Analogue Attic, 2016)

  • Avenue Red Podcast #171 - Chryslsm
Avenue Red is proud to present a newcomer to the podcast series who is a Berlin-based PhD student, a music collector, curator, DJ and also a co-founder of [IAS] https://soundcloud.com/intrinsic-audio-sessions Intrinsic Audio Sessions podcast. Enter Chryslsm (real name Joshua Martin), who is originally from Cape Town, one of the three capital cities of South Africa.
Chryslsm is well-known throughout the underground world of deep, dubby, techy and ambient music stylings that Avenue Red largely centres upon. His SoundCloud page is loaded with swathes of incredible deep mixes, expertly crafted by a man with discerning taste in a broad spectrum of music. The same can be said for his IAS podcast, a project that draws many parallels with Avenue Red, which has been running almost the same length of time and has many guests in common.
Here Joshua shows his clear sky thinking and pure distilled focus in creating an eye-opening journey through deep, dubbed-out house & techno that is logical, progressive, smooth-flowing and full of dazzling soundscapes. It is soaked in melancholy, full of edgy, pulsating rhythms and it is groovy as hell. A real heads-down mix to zone out to as we sink into the atmospheric autumn/winter months.
"This mix brings together the sounds that characterise my love for the dub techno genre: atmospheric, immersive and adaptable to a range of moods and energy levels. It features songs from some of my all-time favourite producers, such as Mike Schommer, Roger Gerressen and Rhythm & Sound. Avenue Red is a podcast I've followed for many years, so I'm very happy to be able to contribute to this great series." Joshua Martin, November 2020

  • Avenue Red Podcast #170 - Tripdrop
This podcast comes from Tripdrop (real name Nikita Polyakov) an artist and DJ from the city of Rostov-on-Don in the south-west of Russia. This is the second DJ on the series from this city after MA.XIM (see: https://soundcloud.com/ma-xim-profile), who delivered a trio of excellent mixes (episodes 034, 034.1 and 034.2) for us almost 5 years ago, all having quite similar styles to what is on show here in episode 170.
Here Nikita has delivered an hour of deep, hypnotic, spaced-out tech house, minimal and breaks tracks laced with infectious, driving grooves. This is a real heads-down mix with a laser-focus on the subtle elements of his sound, the echoed, scattered sonic details and sweeping pads washing over relentless, sharp-edged electronic beats.
"I am a DJ and producer with a few releases on German and Italian labels. When I recorded this mix I tried to compile music that is purely deep and groovy. It includes minimal, tech house and breaks genres. When you listen to it, you can dive into yourself and miss the moment you start shaking your head or start dancing :)
I want to wish all listeners to tune into the vibe and say that it's an honour for me to be a part of Avenue Red. Thank you to Alec for this opportunity!" Nikita Polyakov, October 2020

  • Avenue Red Podcast #169 - Edward Bei
For the 169th Avenue Red Podcast episode (and 200th upload on the SoundCloud page) we welcome back Edward Bei from northern Portugal for his second contribution to the series. This time Edward has created an enchanting, entrancing 50-minute mix of sleepy, dreamy ambient music.
This mix has been proven to work well as a calming bedtime soundtrack, which aids with drifting slowly into the realms of slumber. With a magical selection of sounds and ultra-smooth work on the blends, Edward has the perfect potion to calmly pull you deep under!
"I hope these soundscapes bring you some peace in these crazy times. I am very glad to be back on Avenue Red! And now... it's time to relax." Edward Bei, October 2020

  • Avenue Red Podcast #168 - Nanni Bottura
For this next Avenue Red Podcast episode we welcome Nanni Bottura (real name Giovanni Bottura), a refined crate-digging DJ and music enthusiast from the beautiful, vibrant Italian capital city of Rome. Here Giovanni has delivered us a lengthy almost 2.5-hour journey through a diverse mixture of records from his intriguing collection.
Expect all kinds of sounds from tech-edged house and 4/4 dubby techno oddities through to razor-sharp, electrifying breaks and ravey sounds. It's a really interesting mix bursting with energy, as Giovanni showcases his supreme taste and his raw talent on the decks.
"First of all I want to thank Alec for this opportunity. The DJ set was recorded during lockdown in Italy, where I am currently living. In that time more than any other thing, music was my happy refuge, my personal escape from reality. During that long period as the world stopped, I dug very deeply into different musical genres and the journey that you are about to listen to is one of the results of this research. It is a blend of new and not-so-new releases, which were aligned with my personal taste of the moment. Lots of breaky and spacey stuff in there. I really hope you’ll enjoy the mix!" • Avenue Red Podcast #167 - NEZ
The Avenue Red Podcast brings yet another new name to the series as we present the artist, collector, DJ and WarmState Records label boss known as NEZ (real name Amaury Rondon) from Santo Domingo, the 1-million-strong capital city of the Dominican Republic. This is the first time we have featured a DJ from the Caribbean.
The WarmState Podcast recently featured episodes from Avenue Red frontman Alec Pritchard and resident Andy Green. We recognised the strong work going into this label and after some discussions, this killer mix followed from NEZ - a trailblazing, sublimely mixed selection of warm, bouncy, groovy tech house and deep house sounds from the underground.
"Traveling in 1 hour and 16 minutes through a variety of melodic and danceable moments, with a hints of acid, Detroit and dub... the storyline is to chart the evolution through time of the essence of house, techno and electro sounds. Stay safe and enjoy this journey." Amaury Rondon, September 2020

  • Avenue Red Podcast #166 - Kyrro
The Avenue Red Podcast presents a fresh addition to the roster. Welcome Kyrro (real name George Kury) who is originally from France and is now based in Amsterdam, the Dutch capital city full of red light districts, trippy weed cafes and intriguing bars and clubs with a strong undercurrent of underground electronic music culture.
Kyrro sent us a few mixes in the past and there was a sad story: an accidental data loss occurred on both sides and an incredible 1-hour mix he created to be released on Avenue Red was lost forever. This is the new improved version, the final directors cut, which has come 1 year later and we are over the moon to be able to finally do this!
One word comes to mind from the sounds within: Glacial. This mix really captures a mood of travelling through cold icy waters and exploring landscapes full of glaciers... the loneliness, the isolation - apart from the odd polar bear - and the beautifully barren nature of such a place is all wrapped up into one dreamy, textured package... full of echo, melancholy and slow, timeless motion.
"I grew up in France in the 90's playing electric guitar and experimenting with synthesizers. I produce analogue soundscapes using hardware tools with a mix of raw elements and a modern touch. I love living in Amsterdam where I am constantly working to shape deep and ambient electronics into my own sound, while continuing to explore new musical horizons.
This journey is all about deep, dubby techno energy put together in different shades of red. Thanks to Avenue Red and to all contributing artists on this amazing project, which I am now finally a proud part of!" George Kury, August 2020

  • Avenue Red Podcast #165 - Gusev
It's time to get educational. Hannover-based Russian-German selector Dmitry Gusev returns for his 7th contribution to Avenue Red, delivering a smoothly blended selection of house classics strictly from the underground. Playing from the heart exclusively from his personal vinyl collection, this is Gusev's "must-hear" set of desert island house records. It's time for school. Press play and let these timeless groovy sounds wash over you.
"Hello all music lovers, I recorded this mix maybe 5-6 years ago and it's still my favourite mix, but somehow I never uploaded it or shared it anywhere until now. The idea was very simple, I selected 16 all-time favourite house tracks from the 90's up to the early 2000's and mixed them together in one go. I think that every house music lover should know these 16 tracks. Enjoy!" Dmitry Gusev, January 2020
