  • Avenue Red Is 5... Josh Lentink
For the third instalment of the Avenue Red 5th birthday celebration mini-series, we welcome the London-based zen master (you should see his rug!) Josh Lentink for his 5th contribution to the series. Josh is a raw young talent who fuses house, techno, razor-edged electro, deep, dubby, chilled, banging and also mild stuff, like the concept of a "tomorrow" has not even been spawned into any conscious entity in the universe.
Josh is yet another regular Avenue Red contributor who became a harder target to get a mix from since being taken into the clutches of the excellent Timeline Music, with his excellent monthly Building Blocks show. More here: http://www.timeline-music.co.uk/josh-lentink - we are very pleased our insistence that he pulled a 5th birthday cracker with us has borne fruit. The fruit is tasty. Try it.
"I did my first mix for Avenue Red over 3 years ago, which was around the time I first started buying vinyl. It's been a great place for me to share music and more importantly to listen to other great DJ's over the past 5 years.
Last year I started a monthly show for Timeline Music and have since been pretty slack with recording any other mixes, this one was way overdue! My 5 year anniversary contribution basically just includes some recent records I've bought, some slightly more minimal sounds and a handful of oldies. Thanks to Alec for continuing Avenue Red for all this time, it's still my go-to mix series! X" Josh Lentink, August 2018

  • Avenue Red Is 5... Alec Pritchard
Avenue Red founder Alec Pritchard steps up... deepness and trippy vibes rule supreme. Alec wishes he lived lurking deep underwater, and in his imagination - especially when he is playing records - he feels he actually does. Alec is a modest guy and has nothing else to say about 5 years of Avenue Red apart from this mix itself, along with big thanks to all the amazing contributors and the dedicated tribe of regular listeners! Here's to 5 more years of amazing music on Avenue Red...

  • Avenue Red Is 5... Rubsilent
Avenue Red was started in July 2013 with the intention of creating a good, steady platform for passionate music collectors, DJ's, artists and label owners who we found to have something special on their music pages, yet were flying far below the radar of mainstream press and hype.
We are here to showcase the good, friendly people who we find not to be trying to play some stealthy game of music scene politics with hidden agendas, gimmicks, sideshow fads or any other holographic projections of inflated egos. Instead, we aim to showcase those content with their low underground profile - tasteful diggers and purveyors dedicated to filtering wheat from chaff to distill the sweetest, most enjoyable and educational mixtapes.
In these 5 years to date Avenue Red has featured a diverse range of 86 talented DJ's/artists from around the world, from Russia to the USA and from Peru to the UK. Thanks to all of you for contributing such great works over these years!
To celebrate this milestone we will be releasing 5 separate mixtapes in a mini-series over the coming weeks, which will draw focus on our most frequent and outstanding contributors so far. To get this party started we welcome the magical master technician from Istanbul... step up Rubsilent!!
"My path crossed with Alec's and his Avenue Red podcast series 3 years ago after exchanging messages via Soundcloud over the Relief Records tribute mix that I recorded in early 00's and shared online after recovering the recording from a MiniDisc. Rest is history...
When it comes to electronic music I believe in no barriers between the genres, which comes from my being hooked on this approach in the 90's with the likes of Laurent Garnier and Derrick May as role models. I have recorded five mixes over the years for Avenue Red and this is my 6th contribution. Some may lean towards a certain genre but in order to entertain myself first I tried telling different stories on each session by travelling thorough different moods and styles.
This 5th year anniversary contribution is reflecting a more positive, house-y side of me here. Lots of USA house from places like Chicago, Detroit as well as European sounds from past and present... I was recently reunited with a box of 50 of my records after 11 years apart (all from my time living in Chicago), so naturally I was keen to drop some of those records in this session. I'm humbled to be asked to return back to Avenue Red with this special 5th year anniversary selection. Many thanks to Alec for his hard work and to all the listeners throughout the years. Happy Birthday Avenue Red! Many happy returns." Hamza Solim AKA Rubsilent, July 2018

  • Avenue Red Podcast #110 - Antja
Avenue Red 110 is a slick session of grooving, minimal, deep house, techno & spaced-out breaks from Italian-born Tanja Valente, better known as Antja. Based in Zurich, Switzerland, Antja is a regular fixture at the main underground clubs in the city such as Hive Club, Friedas Büxe, Supermarket and Revier. She has also been spinning further afield within Switzerland and abroad too, including in Berlin and Munich, as people are continuing to notice her rawly visceral, pulsating dancefloor-aimed selections and impeccable technical skills! Check her other mixes out too, including the one on the @waehlscheibe podcast where we first noticed her. Top stuff - go Antja!!
"Groove is created in a space between the notes. He's a fine line of silence." Tanja Valente, April 2018

  • Avenue Red Podcast #109 - OHM
For the 109th Avenue Red Podcast we welcome Bjarnar Jónsson AKA OHM from Copenhagen in Denmark. Originally from Reykjavik, Iceland, Bjarnar is a musical peer of Exos, the man behind one of our most legendary episodes, 016 (https://soundcloud.com/avenue-red/podcast-016-exos).
The OHM discography stretches back to year 2000 with his debut release being on Force Inc. Music Works, the Sameining EP produced alongside Exos. He then appeared on Thule sister-label Tissju with 2 EP's both released in 2001, again both joint releases with Exos.
Then, 15 years later he sprang back up with the mind-blowing Sedna EP on Thule alongside Octal Industries, one which we have played to death. Since then he has been behind 4 more records too, with the latest one having just been released on Taped Artifact, again as Ohm & Octal Industries.
The quality and style of his productions match nicely with his DJ'ing. We asked for him to dig into his record collection for this one. The resulting mix is a seriously deep, dubby onslaught of trippy, glacial, illuminous house & techno vibes. Ideal for our headphone purposes here at Avenue Red.
"I have been a fan of this podcast series for a long time. It has helped me to get connected with loads of underground music people who have a similar frame of mind, so I am super happy to be asked to make this one for Avenue Red.
It is rare that I play out from my vinyl collection, so this was the best piece of homework I had for a while. Hope you enjoy the trip!" Bjarnar Jónsson, April 2018

  • Avenue Red Podcast #108 - Trepid
To accompany the refreshing spring weather we present a dreamy, trippy, colourful mixture of deep house music from Tommy Lemmers AKA Trepid. Hailing from Amsterdam, Trepid is also an upcoming producer who has several releases out on some good labels already, with his sounds ranging from the kind of material you'll hear in this mix to some dub-influenced house and abstract hip-hop.
Here Trepid has dished us a mix that would be perfectly fitting as a soundtrack for wandering around the breezy city streets; through some bright floral aromatic gardens... or even for chilling out in a certain kind of coffee shop near his home ;)
"Starting off mellow and easy this spring. Imagine going to the park, having a couple of cold drinks with the sun on your face, dreaming as the music takes you to another place." Tommy Lemmers, March 2018

  • Avenue Red Podcast #107 - O'laru (Heerd)
We are pleased to welcome the return of the excellent George O'laru on the Avenue Red Podcast, this time with an infectious, deep, melodic, grooving set full of grade-A house & techno blinders that mostly lean towards the obscure end of the spectrum.
From Constana, Romania, George has recently been working intensively during his free time on developing his music production skills. This set showcases 4 of his new, exclusive and unreleased works. He has managed to craft an incredible-sounding, fluent set of music here whereby his own works mesh in seamlessly.
We must have listened to this mix over a dozen times already. It's truly an ace listen! Avenue Red implore you to tell your friends and help to share it around. We all need help, sometimes. This one deserves as many ears as possible!
"This time I tried to record something different to my first appearance on Avenue Red. I'd say it's a groovier and more experimental vibe where I have used a couple of unreleased tracks that I produced myself.
I started producing music as Heerd alongside a friend of mine, Stroe Ionut, about 18 months ago from the desire and passion to create a different sound in Romania. The name originates from the district where another friend Adrian Bocîrnea, who is very supportive of our project, lives at present: Heerdter in Dusseldorf, Germany... we think it is original and the abbreviation of the name sounds cool. I hope you will enjoy this one even more than the first episode!" George Olaru, March 2018

  • Avenue Red Podcast #106 - Eczema
For Avenue Red Podcast 106 we welcome dub house/techno wizard Nikolai Kosik AKA Eczema from the city of Lutsk, North-West Ukraine.
A DJ, producer and also a keen competitive cyclist, Nikolai has delivered us a smooth, seamlessly mixed hour of dubbed-out, trippy 4/4 house & techno that feels sparse and lost... like seeing ships in the distance in the inky dusk across the breezy ocean air... or leaning out the window of a train passing through strange, icy, barren landscapes. You'll get the idea.
"Always keep moving forward!!!" Nikolai Kosik, March 2018
