Hey! We're Kayla and Andrew, an Atlantic Canadian couple with a passion for travel, adventure, and tasty drinks. From inspiring stories about our time on the road to not so great tales of misadventure, the lessons that we're learned along the way are what inspire us to help get other couple's out on the road. Join us every second Thursday on Away We Go as we chat with some of our favourite traveler's and tell our travel stories. Don't forget to bring a drink (you can bet we'll have one).

In 2019 1,500 U.K. citizens were polled in a survey commissioned by exclusiveprivatevillas.com. It found that one-fifth of couples who attempted to go on a holiday together prior to seven months ended up breaking up. What’s more surprising is that of those people, 8 percent said they broke up before the trip was even over! So, what is the best length of time to be together before travelling as a team? A survey conducted by Visit Anaheim has found that 10 months is the perfect time to consider that romantic getaway. Can’t wait that long? Before you make the jump and book that trip here are 4 things to consider before travelling with your partner.

If I had it my way, I’d be on the road more than I am at home BUT I have a life and responsibilities here in Canada. That being said, I started this podcast to help couples who wanted to gain the courage to take that first step and get out into the great wide world. Who better to chat about couples travel with than my own partner, Andrew Martel. We’re answering 20 questions for a traveling couple.
Hey and welcome to episode 24 of Kayla on the Road: the podcast.

2020 was an unexpected struggle but 2021, at least for the time being seems like it’s turning itself around. With major vaccines being approved globally we’re starting to see the world re-open to the idea of visitors from afar. One of the ways countries are trying to increase tourism is through the introduction, or for some the re-introduction, of visas specifically designed for Digital Nomads. You may be thinking “but Kayla, I’m not a digital nomad” and to that I say, “not yet you aren’t”. Today on the podcast I’ve compiled a list of some of the countries with visas for remote workers and what you need to do to get one, but first, welcome to the season 2 premiere of Kayla on the Road:the podcast.

For more on remote work and how I choose my ideal remote work location check out episode 16.

Andrew and I are back for the second part of our year end finale. We're looking forward to 2021, talking about vaccine rollouts, and where we would fly to if 2021 turned out to be a year filled with travel. After the 2020 that we had, we're looking forward to hitting the road as soon as possible.

Who could have guessed that 2020 would have played out the way it did? From a global pandemic to new vaccines that may get us on the road again soon, Andrew Martel is here to chat all things 2020 with me including our minimal travel in early 2020 and the heartbreak that came with cancelling our wedding (and why we finally made the call). This is Kayla on the Road: the podcast episode 21!
Why did I think it was a good idea to start a travel podcast in the middle of a global shut down? I'm not sure but, 2021 is looking promising. Stay tuned for part 2 where Andrew and I chat about our 2021 travel plans!
Come say hey on instagram and facebook and tell me about your 2020 travels.

It’s that time of the year when folks are finally starting to realize that the holiday season is right around the corner and that they have no idea what to get their loved ones! What do you get a traveler as a gift? What do you get a non-traveling traveler or one that hopes to travel again soon? I’ve got recommendations for all that and more.
Welcome to episode 20 of Kayla on the Road: the podcast! Today is all about gifts, presents, and keepsakes. We’re getting ready for Christmas over here right now but this doesn't just apply to Christmas presents, everything on this list works for any special occasion; graduations, birthdays, anniversaries...whatever it may be that your favorite traveler is celebrating!

Even though we’d love to think otherwise, just because you take a vacation doesn’t mean your body does. I’ll be the first to admit that sometimes I forget to take care of myself while I’m traveling but a couple days into my trip I usually end up in bed early with a stomach ache and blisters all over my feet wishing I had made better choices. Hoping to avoid health related regrets on your next trip? You’re in the right place. Here are my tips for staying healthy while on the road. Welcome to Episode 19 of Kayla on the Road: the podcast.

As soon as you book your travel it seems like the entire world wants to send you their thoughts and opinions on where you’re going. I don’t know how many times I’ve booked a trip only to have family members who have never stepped foot outside of Canada tell me that it’s not a safe place to go and that everyone that goes there gets food poisoning or worse. I’ll be the first to admit it’s hard to cut through the clutter and find reliable sources for information on the places you want to travel. That’s why I’ve come up with my 4 favourite ways of learning about where I want to travel and how to use them effectively.
