After Elon Musk appeared to make a controversial gesture resembling a Nazi salute during an inauguration rally for President Donald Trump, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) quickly stepped in to defend the SpaceX CEO.

The ADL, known as a prominent anti-hate watchdog, described Musk’s raised arm as “an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm” in a social media statement on Monday, sparking widespread debate online.
