  • आज्ञापालनस्य मर्म

    ब्रह्मचैतन्यस्य श्रीगोन्दवलेकरमहाराजस्य वचनं कदापि वितथं न भवति इति जनानां विश्वासः आसीत् । एकदा, 'सत्वरं गोन्दवलेग्रामम् आगच्छतम्' इति सन्देशः पुण्यपत्तनस्थौ द्वौ अनुयायिनौ प्रति प्रेषितः । तौ प्रस्थितवन्तौ च । अनन्तरदिने एव 'रैण्डसाहेब' नाम्नः क्रूरकर्मणः आङ्ग्लेयस्य हननं पुण्यपत्तने जातम् । यदि तौ पुण्यपत्तने स्यातां तर्हि ताभ्यां महती विपत्तिः सम्मुखीकरणीया अभविष्यत् इति चिन्तयन्तौ तौ, दूरदर्शिनः महाराजस्य आज्ञायाः महत्त्वम् अवगतवन्तौ । कौ तौ अनुयायिनौ इति कथां श्रुत्वा ज्ञास्यामः ।

    People always believed that the words of Brahmachaitanya’s Shri Gondavlekar Maharaja were never false. Once, he sent a message to his two disciples residing in Punyapattana, saying, 'Hurry to the village of Gondavala.' They set out immediately. The next day, a cruel Englishman was killed in Punyapattana. Had the disciples been there, they would have faced great difficulty. After this, they realized the significance of Maharaj's foresight.

  • राममन्दिरस्य अन्वेषणम्

    आक्रामकेण बाबरेण नाशितस्य राममन्दिरस्य कथा एषा । कश्चन प्रतापी सम्राट् विक्रमादित्यः कदाचित् रामजन्मभूमिम् अन्वेष्टुं सरयूनदीतटस्य समीपे स्थिते घोरे अरण्ये अन्वेषणं कारितवान् । किन्तु, न प्राप्तम् । विषादेन वृक्षस्य अधः उपविष्टवता राज्ञा प्रयागराजः दृष्टः । प्रयागराजस्य कथनानुगुणं यत्र क्षीरं स्रावन्ती धेनुः दृष्टा तत्र भूमेः खननेन एकं मन्दिरं दृष्टिगोचरतां गतम् । तत्रैव यत् भव्यं मन्दिरं निर्मापितवान् तदेव राममन्दिरत्वेन ख्यातं जातम् ।

    This is the story of the Ram Mandir, which was destroyed by Babar. Once, a mighty ruler, Vikramaditya, thoroughly searched the dense forest situated on the banks of the Sarayu River in order to find the birthplace of Lord Rama, but he could not find it. The saddened king, sitting under a tree, saw Prayagraj. According to the legend of Prayagraj, an excavation of the land was carried out at a spot where a cow was seen pouring milk, and a temple was discovered. Later, the king built a magnificent temple, which came to be known as the Ram Mandir.

  • स्नेहशिल्पम्

    मित्रयोः मध्ये स्नेहः कथं भवेत् इति अनया कथया ज्ञायते । कदाचित् रामश्यामयोः मध्ये कलहे जाते, रामः श्यामं ताडितवान् । तदा श्यामः सिकतासु लिखितवान् - ‘अद्य मम प्रियवयस्यः मां ताडितवान्' इति । अन्यस्मिन् दिने जले निम्मज्जन्तं श्यामं यदा रामः रक्षितवान्, तदा श्यामः शिलाखण्डेन लिखति - ‘अद्य निमज्जन्तं मां मम प्रियवयस्यः रक्षितवान्' इति । किमर्थम् एकवारं सिकतासु, एकवारं शिलाखण्डेन लिखति इति पृष्टे श्यामः यत् अद्भुतम् उत्तरं ददाति तत् शृण्मः ।

    The story teaches the value of true friendship. Once, when there was a fight between the friends, Rama and Shyam, Rama hit Shyam. Then, Shyam wrote in the sand: "Today my friend hit me." Another day, when Rama rescued Shyam from drowning, Shyam wrote on a stone: "Today my friend saved my life." We shall now listen to Shyam's reply when asked why he wrote in the sand once and on the stone another time.

  • बलाबलपरीक्षा

    कदाचित् सिंहः सिंही च वने भ्रमन्तौ वृषभमेकं दृष्टवन्तौ । सिंहः तं हन्तुम् इच्छन्, गर्वेण सिंह्याः पुरतः स्वस्य अङ्गानां प्रशंसनं कृत्वा हठात् आक्रम्य वृषभस्य कण्ठं त्रोटयित्वा तदीयं मांसम् अखादत् । अनतिदूरे शृगाल्या सह स्थितः कश्चन शृगालः प्रवृत्तं सर्वं दृष्ट्वा स्वस्य शौर्यं प्रदर्शयितुम् यदा उद्युक्तः, तदा वृषभः तं पादेन बलात् प्रहृत्य शृङ्गाभ्यां नितराम् अपीडयत् । अतः अनुकरणात् प्राक् अस्माकं बलं कियत् अस्ति इति विचिन्त्य प्रवर्तनीयम् ।

    Once, while a lion and lioness were roaming in the forest, they saw a bull. The lion, wanting to kill the bull and having praised himself in front of the lioness, attacked the bull and killed it. Not far away, a fox and a vixen saw this, and the fox also wanted to display his bravery. When he attacked the bull, the bull kicked him with its legs and injured him with its horns. Therefore, one must know one’s strength before imitating others.

  • कर्मफलं कर्तारम् उपैति

    कर्मफलं कर्तारम् उपैतिकर्ममीमांसायां पारङ्गताः दश पण्डिताः यदा ग्रामान्तरं गन्तुं उद्युक्ताः तदा मार्गमध्ये अशनियुक्ता महावृष्टिः आरब्धा । जन्मान्तरे कृतं पापमेव अशनिवृष्ट्यादिपीडायाः कारणं इति विचिन्त्य - 'एकैकः मण्डपात् बहिः गत्वा तिष्ठेत् । यः महापापी स्यात् तस्य उपरि अशनिः पतत्येव' इति तैः निश्चितम् । नवानां जनानां पर्यायः समाप्तश्चेदपि अशनिपातः न अभवत् । दशमः एव महापापी स्यात् इति विचिन्त्य तं यावता मण्डपात् बहिः प्रक्षिप्तवन्तः तावता महान् अशनिपातः मण्डपस्य उपरि अपतत्, नव पण्डिताः अपि मरणं प्राप्नुवनतः च  ।

    Ten scholars, experts in the field of Karma Mimamsa, were on their way to another village when a heavy thunderstorm suddenly began in the middle of the forest. Believing that the suffering caused by the thunderstorm was the result of sins committed in past lives, they thought, "Let each of us step out of the shelter. The one who is the greatest sinner will have the thunderbolt strike him." When none of the nine scholars were affected by the thunderbolt, they concluded that the tenth must be the greatest sinner. Based on this conclusion, they made him step outside, and immediately a thunderbolt struck his shelter. The nine scholars, however, met with death.

  • सङ्गात् सञ्जायते कामः

    सङ्गः अपि विनाशस्य कारणं भवितुम् अर्हति इति अनया कथया ज्ञायते । आसीत् एकस्मिन् वनप्रदेशे मानसोल्लासः नाम ऋषिः यः सत्यवचनः परमकारुणिकः च । तस्य आश्रमे पशवः सर्वे पारस्परिकं वैरभावं विस्मृत्य मोदेन क्रीडन्ति स्म । गच्छता कालेन तस्य आसुरीप्रवृत्तिः उद्भूता । कथं केनोपायेन च इन्द्रेण एतत् सम्पादितम् इति स्वारस्यकरीं कथां शृण्मः ।

    From this story, it is understood that attachment can also become a cause of destruction. There was a sage named Manasollasa in a certain forest area, who was truthful and extremely compassionate. In his ashrama, all the animals, forgetting their mutual enmity, played together joyfully. However, with time, his evil tendencies arose. Let us hear the story of how this was brought about, and how it was accomplished by Indra through some means, which led to his downfall.

  • श्रेष्ठः उपकारः

    अरिदमननामकस्य कस्यचन राज्ञः पञ्च पत्न्यः आसन् । तासु पञ्चम्यां तस्य अनादरः आसीत्। यतः सा निर्धनकुले जाता इति । कस्मिंश्चित् दिने मरणदण्डनं प्राप्तवान् चोरः एकं दिनं वा सन्तोषम् अनुभूय मरणं प्राप्नोतु इति राज्ञीभिः प्रार्थितम् । तथैव चतस्रः राज्ञ्यः सहस्राधिकं सुवर्णनाणकानि, उत्तमवस्त्राणि, उत्तम्भोजनादिकं चोराय अयच्छन् । किन्तु पञ्चमी राज्ञी सामान्यभोजनं दत्त्वा वदति - 'चौर्यं निन्द्यं कर्म । तत् परित्यज्यताम्' । चोरः तां भक्त्या प्रणम्य चौर्यत्यागं करोति ।

    A certain king named Aridaman had five wives. He had less respect towards the fifth wife, as she was born into a poor family. One day, the queens requested the King that a thief who had been sentenced to death be allowed to experience one day of happiness before his death. In this way, the four queens gave him more than a thousand gold coins, fine clothes, and a luxurious meal. However, the fifth queen, offering him simple food, said, "Robbery is an unacceptable act. Abandon it." The thief, bowing to her with respect, gave up his life of crime.

  • सद्विचारः कार्यः सदा

    बाल्यादारभ्यः वयं सर्वे विजयनगरसाम्राज्यस्य प्रसिद्धशासकस्य कृष्णदेवरायस्य, तस्य सभायाः सदस्यस्य तेनालिरामस्य च कथां शृण्वन्तः स्म । कदाचित् नगरस्य विहारसमये कञ्चन तक्षकं दृष्ट्वा महाराजस्य मनः खिन्नम् । अपरस्मिन् दिने तमेव तक्षकं दृष्ट्वा महाराजः मुदितः । कथम् एतत् इति पृष्टे तेनालिरामः यत् समाधानं वदति तत् कथां श्रुत्वा जानीयाम ।

    We all know the famous ruler of the Vijayanagara Empire, Krishnadevaraya, and the member of his court, Tenali Raman, and have been hearing their stories since our childhood. Here is another story. Once, while strolling around the city, the king saw a carpenter, which made him feel sad. On another day, when he saw the same carpenter, the king became joyful. When asked about this, Tenali Raman gave an explanation. Come, let’s hear the story and understand the reason.

  • महात्मनां भूमिः एषा

    अमेरिकीयः धर्मगुरुः रेवरेण्ड् आवरः, पुणेनगरपरिसरे स्थितान् निर्धननिरक्षरान् क्रिस्तमतीयान् अकरोत् ।अनेन हिन्दुधर्मग्रन्थानाम् अध्ययनम् अकृत्वा, वास्तवं स्वरूपम् अनवगत्य सर्वदा हिन्दुधर्मस्य निन्दा कृता । कश्चन पण्डितः वदति यत् - 'आदौ वास्तवस्वरूपम् अवगन्तुं प्रयासः स्यात्, ततः एव अवगुणाः प्रकाशनीयाः' इति । ततः सः हिन्दुधर्मस्य अध्ययनं कृत्वा संस्कृतं मराठीं च अधीत्य बहून् ग्रन्थान् आङ्ग्लभाषया अनूदितवान् । अपि च तदीयां सम्पत्तिः पुणेनगरस्थाय 'भारतीयेतिहाससंशोधनमण्डलाय' अर्पितवान् ।

    The American religious leader Reverend Auer, in Pune, helped the poor and illiterate and used to convert them to Christianity. He consistently criticized Hinduism, even without reading the Hindu scriptures, and without understanding their true nature. A certain scholar once said, "First, one should try to understand the true essence, and only then should criticize." Therefore, after studying Hinduism, he learned Sanskrit and Marathi and translated many texts into English. Also, he donated his wealth to the Indian History Research Association located in Pune.

  • विरक्तः महाराजः

    मिथिलाधिपति: जनकमहाराज:  बहुधा व्यापृतः अपि तस्य गुरो: आश्रमम् आगत्य सश्रद्धम् उपदेशं श्रुत्वा अल्पमपि दर्पम् अप्रदर्शयन् यथाशक्ति गुरो: सेवां करोति स्म । अत: तस्मिन् गुरो: प्रीति: अधिका आसीत् । बहवः शिष्या: एतत् न असहन्त । एतत् जानन् ऋषिः, काञ्चन परीक्षां कृत्वा शिष्येभ्यः दर्शयति यत् किमर्थं महाराजे तस्य प्रीतिः अधिका अस्तीति। का सा परीक्षा इति कथां श्रुत्वा जानीमः ।

    The king of Mithila, Janaka Maharaja, though often busy with various duties, would visit his guru's ashram with great devotion. He would listen attentively to the teachings and, without showing any arrogance, serve his guru to the best of his ability. As a result, his guru had a special affection for him. Many other disciples could not tolerate this. Knowing this, the sage decided to conduct a test and show the disciples the reason for the special affection the king received.
