  • Episode 211 – How Five Questions Can Accelerate Your Growth

I’ve found that success requires constant examination. Agile, specifically, is just a tool. It’s a set of guiding principles and structured actions designed to bring about a consistent positive result.

But the things that are actually required are never modelled or enforced.

Courage, awareness, humility. These are the skills that add up to the spirit of the word agile. True flexibility and fluidity in execution.

So how do you get more of these? There are five questions that I ask myself every day.

Don’t underestimate the value of great questions. Great questions work because we know we’re going to have to answer them at the end of each day. We don’t want to show up empty-handed.

So here are the five questions.

    1.    How did I lean into my fear zone today, beating my internal quitter, and playing all out?

    2.    What failed, and how did you invert it?

    3.    How did I empty my cup today, smashing a belief or habit?

    4.    What did I learn?

    5.    What could I MVP?

You can easily customize this list. I encourage you to use whatever works for you. Here’s a bonus tip. If you want to really magnify the impact of this practice, use an accountability partner.

  • Badass Unscripted – Never Bow To Fashion

Here’s a habit I’m willing to bet you have adopted without even noticing… You think without thinking.

To me, this means that we often accept what we read, see or hear because it’s familiar. With so much visual communication, if something looks similar to a trustworthy source, it must be trustworthy.

The more an idea is repeated, the more it is amplified in our minds. Our ideas are as likely to come from somebody else’s Ted Talk or Instagram feed as they are from our own minds.

Every day we’re told what to buy. We are told what to say. Were even told what to believe. It’s very easy to tell what ideas are popular, and it’s very easy to choose the popular ones as our own.

Fashion is supposed to be about individual expression. But so often, it really is about fitting in with the crowd. Your “individual choices” have been pre-selected for you. This includes your thought patterns, ideas, and beliefs.

To truly express yourself freely, you must take time to be aware and contemplate during your daily life. From there, you begin to notice patterns, ask questions, and forge your own ideas.

  • Episode 210 – The Rise of The Agile Company

Hesitation Kills. Don’t let your company fall into extinction – or even fall behind your competitors – before you finally learn this lesson.

Unlike any other time in history, the market is screaming for solutions.  Great Resignation, political and identity divide, social media, web 3.0, cryptocurrencies…all of these are new forces that companies are caught with their pants down in dealing with.

Great companies will arise from this confusion. Those who aggressively deal with the future are those who will capitalize on it and survive.

You can pretend these forces don’t affect you, but you can’t pretend your company is in first place when it’s actually at the bottom of the pile.

How can your Badass Agile skills help you create a better company:

-Teach leaders to use the principle of maximum value first to communicate your approach.

-If you don’t have an approach, communicate your commitment, passion, and care

-Propose or help leaders propose experiments that help address your business challenges. Minimize risk by testing aggressively and keeping experiments short.

-Don’t stay attached to any one ‘way’.  Kill your darlings.  If it doesn’t work, let it go and move on.

-There is no fast-forward button.  Unlearn certainty and safety.

-If you do what’s right for your people and your customers first, you usually can’t go wrong.

-Most important, don’t freeze in analysis and forethought.  Move. Get off the ‘x’.

-Inspire people with your courage and massive action.

  • Episode 209 – Knowledge

We place value on being spectators…observers to the wisdom of others. But what does ‘being in the know’ really buy you?

-How much time do we waste on social media trying to know the latest?

-How many meetings do we attend for the purpose of being looped in or informed?

-How many books do we read hoping it will transform our practice…only to forget most of what we learned, and give up when it doesn’t yield instant results.

-what would happen if we assumed that what we need to know will find us?

    How will it find us?

-We must be bold, courageous and internally certain. We must leap.

-Each day lean into the fear zone. It is usually the case that the scariest thing is the most important thing to do.  When we fail to ask, to call to action, to take risks, when we busy ourselves with other work that we THINK is meaningful, we don’t get what we want. We have been educated and conditioned to believe that this is important work…but its not.

-We must be truly self-aware. We must listen to ourselves, know ourselves, and be able to get feedback from others as well – to truly KNOW things.  Know what we want. Know what we fear. Know what delights us and ignites our passion.

Ask yourself each day – what’s the scary thing?
