Since Darren Smith and John Gennaro both recently wrapped up watching season 3 of Netflix's show The Diplomat (after they had both recently binge-watched the first two seasons of the show), it only made sense to have a special subscribers-only chat on a podcast with their review of the season.
The guys go deep on their favorite characters, why they're attracted to the show, Kate being hilariously not feminine, Hal being the most interesting character, and a whole lot more.
SPOILER WARNING: Do not listen to this podcast until you have finished watching season 3 of The Diplomat. There are lots of spoilers after the first few minutes of the podcast.

Darren Smith and John Gennaro talk about the nearly-seven hour long Game 3 of the World Series, eventually won by the Los Angeles Dodgers over the Toronto Blue Jays, and spend some time talking about the comparison between Max Scherzer and Clayton Kershaw.
The guys go through what went right and what went wrong, everyone eventually losing their minds, why the ghost runner is sometimes good, and what it all means for today's Game 4 at Dodger Stadium.
They also spend some time talking about San Diego FC, where Hirving "Chucky" Lozano was back at training yesterday, and the team(s) that they would face in the next round of the Audi 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs that took their game to PKs last night.

Darren Smith and John Gennaro recap the sports weekend that was in San Diego, starting with San Diego FC winning their first ever playoff game in front of the home fans at Snapdragon Stadium . The guys talk about Hirving "Chucky" Lozano's absence from the team before breaking down what went right in Game 1 and what the team might be looking to change before Game 2 on Saturday in Portland.
The guys then move on to San Diego State, who was ready for their biggest football challenge of the season so far but ended up with a dud in The Battle for the Oil Can up in Fresno. The Fresno State Bulldogs made a QB change before the game even began and were shutout as a result by the Aztecs offense. While SDSU handled their business, we're still unsure how good of a team they are because their schedule has been so weak.
Finally, checking in on the Padres, the team is still yet to announce what (if anything) the future holds for A.J. Preller in San Diego. We haven't heard about an extension or about him possibly being released from his contracts, but it does sound like maybe the Colorado Rockies are keeping an eye on the situation.
Also, how can the Padres be attempting to woo potential managers here when nobody knows who is running baseball operations beyond 2026?
00:00 - SDFC wins its first ever playoff game
31:00 - SDSU dominates the Battle for the Oil Can

Darren Smith and John Gennaro preview what John calls "The Sports Equinox Weekend" and what Darren refers to as "The Cheesecake Factory menu of sports weekends".
There is a lot to watch and enjoy for sports fans in San Diego this weekend, so much so that Darren and John each create Top 5 lists of what they're most excited to watch between San Diego FC's first MLS Cup Playoffs game, the most important and exciting game for San Diego State football in quite some time, the start of the 2025 World Series, and more.
The guys get through that, talk about some of the nostalgia the Los Angeles Chargers brought about with their uniforms and branding last night, and throw out some recommendations in the weekly feature Try This!

25:00 - Chargers nostalgia leads to Ryan Leaf & Dr. Chao bickering on social media

Darren Smith chatted with San Diego FC winger Amahl Pellegrino this week and the two of them discussed Pellegrino's recent hot performance, his Scandanavian connection with other SDFC players, why San Diego FC was the only team in America that he wanted to play for, why he was happy to play out-of-position when asked to do so, and how he feels about the San Diego climate.

Darren Smith and John Gennaro go through the news of the day, starting with the story about the FBI arresting Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier for chargers related to gambling.
That eventually leads them to last night in the NBA and Victor Wembanyama playing one of the more dominant regular season games we've ever seen, and a conversation about whether a non-American can be the face of the league.
The guys also go through the story about Hirving "Chucky" Lozano staying home for last weekend's San Diego FC game in Portland after a verbal altercation in the locker room and wonder how much it will factor into this Sunday's MLS Cup Playoffs game against Portland at Snapdragon Stadium.

Darren Smith and John Gennaro kick off today's show with some gratitude and appreciation for people in their lives that are going through some stuff before moving on to what they've head about the San Diego Padres managerial search. They also talked about Alvin Duran's exit from the Padres and if it means anything for A.J. Preller before giving their own takes about the 2025 World Series between the Dodgers and Blue Jays.
The guys then welcome Joseph Lowery from Backheeled to the show to help San Diego FC fans understand what's coming this week when the Audi 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs kick off and what the future of the team looks like beyond this year.

After talking a bit about the 2025 World Series matchup between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers, Darren Smith and John Gennaro talk about Albert Pujols' prospects as an MLB manager (who will be interviewed by the San Diego Padres tomorrow) and Carlos Hernandez throwing his hat in the ring before John throws out an outside-the-box idea that hasn't yet been brought up for who could be the next manager in San Diego.
Later, the guys discuss the news that the Padres' Dominican Republic Scouting Coordinator, who has been credited with signing Ethan Salas, Leodalis De Vries and Emmanuel Clase, has joined the Colorado Rockies and wonder how it ties to the extension talks between A.J. Preller and the Padres.
In the final few minutes, the guys talk about opening night of the NBA season (tonight!) and the overwhelming amount of praise being thrown at Darren's New York Knicks.

The guys talk about what a great expansion season this has been and the decision ahead for Mikey Varas between Chucky Lozano and Amahl Pellegrino, who has the hot hand right now.
The second half of the podcast is a catch-up on the San Diego Padres, with CEO Erik Greupner going on Ben & Woods this morning and the team opening up its managerial search with Albert Pujols. Is A.J. Preller going to get an extension? Who do the guys want to be the next Padres manager and who do they think is likely the guy who gets the job?
