What's up to my kinnickkinnick pouched rowdies and fervent lidded luck ducks!
Welcome back to the BNP, and thank you as always for joining and supporting the show.
This episode is Part 2 of an impromptu duet reflecting on cosmic vastness and the elegance of existence. Part 1 tackled the outer vastitude and sheer mind gurgling scale of the Universe out there.
Part 2 is an impressionistic nose dive into the inverse: through the gigantic boundlessness of inner life in all its multifoliate hues, and the great psychological space within which we swim like minnows on the liminal shallows of a limitless Sea.
This episode features a poem I recently wrote about the history underwritten and the lathe for shaping unseen footprints, long trod out upon the land beneath contemporary city streets.
Alluded to rhythm and blues tracks (both vintage and new) get mixed into a recent conversation between two heroes of mine, and two giants of the current moment: Senator Nina Turner and Dr. Cornel West. You can check out the whole conversation on Nina Turner's podcast Hello Somebody.
No exploration of the inner universe is complete without some input from the late great and rarefied weirdness of Terence McKenna and his distant but oh so precise underwater seal's voice, so we snorkel the reef of his psychedelic topography for a spell, and end on a fresh edit of another poem I'd written a few years ago.
Jump in and enjoy the ride y'all! This episode is designed to make you feel some kinda way...
Please don't forget to rate review and subscribe if you haven't done so already. Also, this week I challenge you to tell one other person about the BNP. Ferrets and other assorted mongrels do count as persons. Not trying to be varmintist up in here.
As always you can check out the BNP on Instagram @conantanner.

What's up to my silver horned ibexes and starry nosed komodos!
This episode is a long exhale. It's the welcome mineral bite in a drink of pure spring water off the mountain. It's the first cool drops of a monsoon rain.
Everything has felt so damn serious lately. That includes my own psyche, and seriousness is no vacation home from which to watch the mountains peak through slow moving cumulus clouds. What I need right now is a crisp alpine peak with views of deep still cold lakes.
So. This episode is a reminder that though we may admittedly know a lot (or think that we do), in actuality we know almost nothing. The vast, vast majority of existence itself is hidden behind a veil of space-time, accelerating away from us at a rate of speed beyond our Newtonian capability to catch up with it.
And though we may never see the invisible expanding balloon engine of existence in its glorious fullness, we can still kick our feet up, listen to crickets, and crane our heads upward towards the white light pin-pricked night.

What's up to my fly hip humanists and rugged renegade reformers!
Welcome back to the BNP y'all, and thank you as always for listening and supporting the pod.
"How you gonna pay for that? And how you gonna pay for that?" It's a mantra you hear repeated over and over again by pundits, politicians and debate moderators, every time government spending for basic social programs such as Medicare for All gets brought up in conversation, especially around election season. "It would be nice to have free college, sure," the self-professed policy wonks say, but: "How you gonna pay for that?"
This episode is an answer to that question, and the answer is Modern Monetary Theory, or MMT.
Nation states like the U.S. that have their own sovereign currency are able to "print" (see: move some decimals around on a computer) money on demand. And what's crazy is that it doesn't actually cause runaway inflation. That's a myth used to get you to believe that nothing can ever be better for you.
In fact, we have evidence of how this magical money creation thing works just in the recent CARES Act, when the Government used the cover of a biological crisis to hand the Federal Reserve 6 to 10 Trillion dollars that were created out of thin air. There was no inflation.
However, rather than that totally insane quantity of money being put towards social welfare and employment programs such as a Green New Deal, or improving our crumbling infrastructure, it was instead handed out to exclusively to privileged moneyed interests within the U.S. ruling class. The reason for this is that you and I don't donate obscene amounts of money to politicians of both parties to ensure their re-election. So we don't reap any benefits from the magical money machine going Brrrrr.
Only the 0.001% get access to that money, so they can stash it in off-shore tax havens and buy more luxury condoplexes to drive up rent in your city.
So, the next time a mealy mouthed politician on a shiny stage flippantly informs you that there's no way the government can "afford" to provide nice things for you, such as "healthcare," you can call Bullshit. Also, did you know the Socialist Sandinista government in Nicaragua provides universal health care to its people? Just sayin...
Oh and one more thing: Please don't forget to rate, review and subscribe and bestow those sweet 5 stars friends! It means the world to me. Thank you and much love.
Until next time,
One Love,

Wassup to all my Andromedans in exile and fly fugitive idealists! It's the Bay of Pigs episode y'all, Part 4 of the BNP Original Series, Revisiting Fidel and the Cuban Revolution.
In this installment series we dive in to the CIA and State Department's oddly imagined and chaotically executed Bay of Pigs invasion in April of 1961. The mission was to invade Cuba, assassinate Castro, and spark a national revolt against his government.
The plan failed abysmally, and in fact it achieved the opposite effect, serving as a major morale boost for Cuba, Castro, and the nascent Marxist-Leninist state.
In this episode we unpack the nitty gritty details of why the BoP (new favorite acronym) failed so spectacularly, and examine the contextual bureaucratic ambiance that gave rise to the debacle.
I begin the show by playing a clip from Rebecca Nagle's latest This Land episode, where she highlights movingly the intense emotional catharsis felt by the five tribes who were finally vindicated by Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch's majority opinion in their favor.
A deep and heartfelt Congratulations again to the Cherokee, Choctaw, Seminole, Chickasaw and Creek Nations on their landmark victory.

What's up to my benevolent rabble rousers and nimble-footed rumble muffins!
Thank you all for listening, supporting, and joining the BNP.
This episode attempts to reckon with the recent and improbable Black Lives Matter-inspired phenomenon known as CHOP, the Capitol Hill Occupied Protest, in Seattle.
As a direct response to excessive police violence unleashed on the neighborhood during massive Black Lives Matter protests, the people of Capitol Hill came together to establish an autonomous zone within Seattle, and succeeded in marching the SPD out of their precinct and out of Capitol Hill.
For better or for worse, from that moment on, the CHOP became a significant cultural marker in the annals recent American history. For some, the CHOP became a symbol of something powerful, hopeful, and profound. For others, it represented a horrifying specter of anarchy.
More than that, the CHOP suddenly found itself to be an impromptu experiment in a post-police society.
Now, several weeks later, the Seattle PD has cleared the last demonstrators out of the area at the behest of mayor Jenny Durkin. The encampments have been deconstructed and Cal Anderson Park reoccupied by the state of Washington. Now that the sidewalk chalk has faded in the rarefied Seattle summer sun, what can we glean from the CHOP project as a whole?
What are we to make of the very real violence that occurred within CHOP in the later days of the protest?
How does CHOP fit in with the Movement for Black Lives?
What can we learn from the mistakes that were made, and what can we do better next time an American citizenry openly decolonizes and reclaims a public space?
These are some of the knotty queries this episode seeks to confront, and my guest on this journey along the streets of Pike and Pine is Yvonne from Seattle, who went to the CHOP herself and experienced firsthand the dynamics of the movement in its early days on Capitol Hill.
So close your eyes, travel along the superhighway super-sphere of the intangible ether and tunnel-blast into the heart of the Emerald City as we unpack this unexpected and highly energized cultural outgrowth. Enjoy the conversation, y'all!

What's up to my mellifluous collectivists and marvelously barbarous Bolivarians!
I'm quite stoked this episode to introduce you all to esteemed writer, editor and political analyst at Venezuelanalysis.com, Ricardo Vaz. Ricardo's articles have appeared on Mint Press News, Monthly Review, Truthout, Counterpunch, and many other alternative media sites.
Ricardo joins us all the way from the northernmost range of the Andes to talk South American geopolitics, regional Populism and the Venezuelan grassroots resistance to American imperial aggression.
Venezuelanalysis.com is an independent pro-Bolivarian news outlet, and an invaluable source of popular, on-the-ground information about the current state of affairs in Venezuela. The site's main objective is "to provide a counter-narrative to mainstream media coverage of the Bolivarian Revolution, based on the perspective of leftist and grassroots movements in Venezuela. We aim to cover daily news about Venezuela, as well as to contextualize these developments with in-depth analysis and background information."
The GoFundMe that Ricardo mentions at the end of the episode can be found here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-venezuelans-feed-themselves
100% of your donation goes directly to helping the Venezuelan people feed themselves amidst sanctions and the embargo. Specifically the donations go to:
***Seeds for grassroots efforts linking small-scale farmers in the countryside to low-income urban communities (100 pounds of seeds are needed—that will grow a lot of food!) Recipient group: Plan Pueblo a Pueblo
***Establishment of a community seed bank and seed multiplication center in the Plains region, supporting both rural and urban farming initiatives. Recipient group: El Conuquito del Barranco
***Livestock production to provide organic fertilizer and diversify diets for Andean farming communities. Recipient group: Vertientes de Agua Viva Cooperative
***Tools to support Indigenous youth farming projects. Recipient group: student group of the National Indigenous University
***Other efforts as possible, if the funding goal is exceeded.
Thank you as always for listening and supporting the BNP. Spread the word, tell a friend, and don't forget that RRS action (rate, review, subscribe). This episode I'm pleased to present Phx-based multi-genre EDM artist, musician, and, crucially, the resident Bass Blaster for the BNP, Eric Thrasher aka Dykotomi.
Dykotomi joins the pod and discusses his journey into the world of electronic music, his cultural and musical influences, how to craft the perfect synthetic **Untz** and the really critical question of whether extra-dimensional spirits communicate with EDM producer humans via MIDI's and modular synthesizers.

This episode I am quite jazzed to present the legendary Teafaerie, who kindly graced the BNP with her time, wisdom, experience, semantic turquoise meaning reef and dialectic borealis. We talk all things Teahouse-style shop, from plant medicine personalities to psychedelic benefit enhancement technology.
Teafaerie is a unparalleled energetic leveler, head-space healer and subtle practitioner of the shamanic medicine arts. She is an absolute wealth of stories and knowledge, both inside and out of the entheogenic cosmosphere.
Teafaerie's fun, eloquent and illuminating articles on the iconic psychoactive information vault Erowid.org have received well over a million views. She is working on an epic poem/essay recounting her journey to and within a jaguar sanctuary in Peru, and a new podcast is in the works. Blessings to all my Riotous Barbarians and Loot Liberating Hell Cats!
Much love as always comin' at ya from the open air bread oven that is Phoenix in June. Lots to discuss in today's episode so let's get right into it.
Reform, defund, abolish. We've heard these terms being thrown around lately in the national discussion around holding police departments (and the politicians who govern them) accountable for their brutality and violence towards Black people, people of Color, and poor people of all stripes.
As we gather daily in the streets and demand justice for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor (somehow the cops who murdered her are still not charged), Dion Johnson, Dreasjon Reed and many, many others, there is a growing sense in our society that enough is truly and completely enough, and that we must leverage this societal pressure into real, lasting, tangible changes in regards to how our communities are policed.
This episode provides an update, from the perspective of my own eyes, on the local struggle to defund the Phoenix PD and the daily demonstrations downtown. Also discussed: momentum of Black Lives Matter nationally, the need to Disband ICE, current atrocities being committed as we speak in ICE detention centers, and Congressional Democrats' insanely tone deaf symbolic gesture of "taking a knee" in Ghanaian kente cloths meant to tamp down public outrage (spoiler alert: it didn't work).

Dear Friends,
This solo minisode is an off the cuff expression of hope, grief and determination. It's an attempt to articulate and square up to this seminal moment in American history, from the perspective of my own eyes.
Tonight will be the 7th evening of nationwide demonstrations and rebellion against the police murder of George Floyd, the police murder of Breona Taylor, and police brutality towards Black people and people of Color in general.
I live just a few blocks from the Capital building and downtown Phoenix, which is now a highly militarized police green zone: a spasm of red and blue flashing lights. Unmarked black SUV's idle in parking lots on every street corner along 7th Ave between Van Buren and Washington St. Half a dozen helicopters ceaselessly circle the area. Surveillance drones outnumber birds. (Which, admittedly, has more to do with domestic cats than anything else, but I digress.)
Email the pod at [email protected] if you'd like to join the demonstrations downtown, or if you'd like to learn more about organizing and mobilizing in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement in Arizona.
Stay safe, be smart, be strategic, be calm.
One Love,
Conan
