Let's talk about curiosity today. It plays such a HUGE role in our bravery (both the big and small kinds.) Someone estranged from their own curiosity, I've noticed, end up feeling trapped and victimized by their own situation. Regaining your sense of curiosity is a huge help for those moments of "Why is this happening to me!?"
This is why I'm so pleased to introduce you to Laura Coe is a life coach and an author of the book "Emotional Obesity" AND she's host of the podcast "Art of Authenticity." Not only do I love spreading love for other podcasts out there who are killing it these days, but Laura because of her experiences, she has some really poignant perspectives on the subject of authentically putting yourself out there.
Even while working in corporate healthcare, Laura always specialized in breaking down complex concepts for to make them easy to digest, understand, and apply. Now she channels that unique skill into "translating" philosophy and ancient wisdom – breaking down monumental, life-changing wisdom in a way that everyone can apply to their own lives.
So today she and I cover the topics of how to integrate curiosity into your intuition, how to build your intuition, why our internal curiosity is a great place to start, how to define a full-body yes, and what to do with the grey areas of life. We also chat about the line between Authentic and Inauthentic, and how to find it.
Laura also has a really handy tool which she mentions at the end of the show. You'll want your hands on that. and the link to it is in the show notes for today's episode at http://barenakedbravery.com
Brave Take-Aways
Your Brave Take-Away from today's show is to follow Laura's advice. In an effort to integrate more curiosity into your life, first take a moment of pride, then observe your judgement and notice the patterns. If you need an extra leg up and a helping hand with that, Laura's got a series of questions to help you measure this and take the next step. Download those here: http://emotionalobesity.com/

Let's dig deep into the subject of Philanthropy today. We've got Jared Angaza with us who is a strategist and philanthropist. There was just something about him and how he's putting himself out into the world that made me want him on the show. I think you'll appreciate his perspective and genuine passion for compassion as much as I do.
Jared lived and worked full time in East Africa for over a decade before moving to Costa Rica for the past year and a half. Now he and his family are living in his hometown of Nashville, TN as they prepare to launch a few of their latest philanthropic ventures.
For 20 years Jared has created strategies, brands, campaigns, events and teachings that help us re-imagine philanthropy and transform perspectives. Jared coaches and consults for individuals, brands and governments across the globe and is on a quest to contribute to a more harmonious world.
In today's conversation he and I discuss some of the bravery he's witnessed and been a part of first and second hand in the realm of advocacy and philanthropy. He also shares with us 3 Pillars of Philanthropy, all of which we can accomplish without having to leave our hometown by the way. And we also discuss how important it is to learn how to observe the pain around us.
I'm really grateful that I get to share conversations like this with you, especially today. Our world needs more of this kind of bravery and I'm so pleased Jared joined us to talk about it all.
Brave Take-AwaysSuch a wonderful selection of topics. I really hoped you enjoyed that as much as I did. As with every interview episode on Bare Naked Bravery, today you've got a Brave Take-Away, something you can do today to implement some of the things we discussed from today's show... Today's Brave Take-Away is to do 3 things based around Jared's 3 pillars of philanthropy.
- Do one thing that eases pain for yourself or others.
- Do one thing to observe pain within yourself or others.
- Do one thing which addresses the root cause of the pain of yourself or others.
They don't have to be big, audacious acts - just small steps in the right direction. Maybe it's giving yourself permission to take a bubble bath. Maybe it's having a conversation and listening to someone's pain. Maybe it's getting dirty and crossing something off the "honey-do" list for your spouse. Again, just simple small acts of brave philanthropy.
I know Jared would love to hear all about your favorite parts of today's Bare Naked Bravery. You can find Jared Angaza and myself on facebook, twitter, instagram, and more. I just ask that you be sure to tag us so we can cheer you on and see what you're up to.

Eryn Morgan (@eagleandmouse on Instagram) asked me a couple weeks ago about how I find the motivation to sit down and be creative. Time Blocking is a huuuuge factor in this for me. I have to sit down and block out time in my calendar for the things that really matter before someone else does! It also helps to schedule that time when I'm ready for it. I'm a morning person, so that's why I do creative things in the morning. If you're curious about how to get started with this, then this is the episode for you!

Anytime you're putting yourself out there, you're doing so to an audience. Even if that audience is just one person, you're still using your power of choice. You're picking your audience, your timing, your environment, your delivery method
Today we get to talk with Nicole Holland who I know through the podcast scene together. She has a couple podcasts herself (Business Building Rockstars and Get Guest Ready) and her main squeeze is hooking podcasters up with really killer podcast guests. We talk a little bit about that today but mainly we're talking about why it is so gosh darned important to set up a velvet rope around your customer experience and why you need to put your own oxygen mask on first before putting yourself out there and crashing and burning. hard.
This conversation applies to artists and business owners alike, so even if the business-y talk is a bit strange (because sometimes us business owners can sometimes go into a vocabulary bubble that doesn't always make sense to non-business-y folks) I'm urging you to stick this one out, because it applies to you, even if your don't own a business.
Brave Take-AwaysYour Brave Take-Away from today's show is to make that list of things you really want and a separate list of things you really don't want. You can do this with your artwork, your career, your relationships, your business... I want you to do this so that it's easier for you to see what or who is a total hands-down-YES and who is an absolutely-not-NO. It's a really helpful exercise to come back to over and over again.

Worry is not entirely a bad thing. However as with a lot of things in life, if it's used in excess, then it most definitely is a bad thing. So when you've found yourself stuck on the hamster wheel of worry, what do you do to cut yourself free? How do you turn worry into momentum, especially momentum that's going in the *right* direction? That's what we're talking about on today's peep show mini episode!

Today we are joined by fellow artist and writer, Jeff Goins. He just came out with the book "Real Artists Don't Starve" and I loved it so much, I wanted him on the show to chat about all of it.
As just a little bit of a background, Jeff wrote the national bestseller book called "The Art of Work" which I also loved and so I was really stoked to have this conversation with him.
Today we're gonna chat about which parts of his new book didn't make the cut. We talk about how challenges always beckon new opportunities. We talk about the value on having constraints as a working and thriving creative. We talk about the differences between a starving artist and a thriving artist. AND we chat a little about the financial mindset required to become a thriving artist.
Even if you don't classify yourself as an artist, this is gonna be a good episode for you to listen to because Jeff has some really valuable nuggets of wisdom to offer ALL of us today.
With that, I give you Jeff Goins!
Brave Take-AwaysYour Brave Take-Away from today's episode is this: I want you to follow this episode up with making a list of reasons why you're different than the people around you. Sometimes objectively looking at our strengths and uniqueness is all we need to see that we in fact do have the potential to be successful.

This week I'm driving all the way across the country. My creative sabbatical in Atlanta, GA has wrapped up and I'm headed back to the Pacific Northwest to nestle into a new life on Orcas Island, WA. I'm really excited about it and this week's Peep Show is all about how much I gain from these long road trips. There's something magical about being in the midst of big horizons...

Today we have the joy of speaking with Sarah Jane, an artist who knows a lot about holding space for people to be tender and brave. I know this to be true because of my own experience with her. Sarah Jane is currently on staff at the arts organization where I had a 6-week artist residency just after I had been diagnosed with my essential tremor. Those 6 weeks were really hard for me - in so many ways - and Sarah Jane (and the rest of the staff at the Grunewald Guild) did so much for not only my career, and artistic expression, but also my personhood. They gave me permission to not have things figured out all the way. Those 6-weeks held some of the beginning threads of this very podcast.
So today Sarah Jane and I talk about all that. How do you know when to act after you've been in a season of waiting? How do you know when you're too tender to be brave and still safe? How do you bounce back from rejection?
Today, I'm most excited about asking her all about her new project called Mere Objects, which is an collaborative art installation featuring pieces of identity of rape survivors held inside tiny glass globes dangling from the ceiling. Mere Objects is a participatory art project which exists to honor and empower survivors of sexual violence, and to increase awareness of survivors within our communities. The project is open to people of all genders who have experienced any form of sexual violence.
This project is a really unique piece, in general, but it is (in my humble opinion) one more fulfillments of Sarah Jane's calling as an artist. I'm so proud of her and her work and I'm really honored to introduce you to her today...
Brave Take-AwaysYour Brave-Take Away from today's show is this: If you are a victim of sexual violence or you know of someone who is, please share this opportunity to contribute to Sarah Jane's project. Even if you don't think you know of a survivor, you probably do. Consider this your opportunity to hold space for someone else who hasn't had a chance to stand up like this before.
If you are curious or have more questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to either of us. Sarah Jane's email is: [email protected]

I faced a looooong to-do list this week, which is why today we're looking at why it's so important to celebrate and connect, even with the small stuff. Our seasons of bravery sometimes BEG us for this and I know that sometimes those really dark seasons of bravery make it really hard to reach out and connect with folks. But it's sooo soooooo soooooo important that we do this. Take a listen and learn how I did that this week.
