In today's episode, I am exploring the possibility that instead of building resilience, we might just be coping with adversity. While there are numerous aspects to explore, I've primarily focused on growth, in the form of equipping and empowering your team, and how these are the key distinctions to make from misleading coping mechanisms with genuine resilience building.
Today, I focus on the leadership aspect of Barriers and Boundaries Resilient Leadership. And in that, leadership can increase organizational thinking with role-based focused (at every level), resilient leadership with adaptability and balanced thinking, and increased organizational thinking with systemic awareness with external alignment.
Some of the references for the episode are:
Team Building Exercise: "The Strategic Web"
Objective: To help team members understand the interconnectedness of their roles and how their actions impact the organization as a whole, fostering organizational thinking and collaboration.
Materials:
Instructions:
Outcome: This exercise helps team members visualize the complexity and interconnectedness of their organization, promoting a deeper understanding of how their roles contribute to the bigger picture. It also fosters a sense of shared responsibility for the organization's success, encouraging more strategic thinking and collaboration across departments.
Discipline is essentially the structure that allows resilience to live and breathe. Just as a strong foundation supports a building, discipline supports the development of resilience in both individuals and organizations. Without discipline, efforts to build resilience can become chaotic and ineffective, much like trying to construct a skyscraper without blueprints or scaffolding.
For Personal Resilience in Discipline:
Question: "Can you share a time when you faced a significant challenge and how your personal discipline helped you overcome it? What habits or routines did you rely on, and how did they contribute to your resilience?"
For Organizational Resilience in Discipline:
Question: "Think of a recent crisis or disruption our organization faced. How did our disciplined processes and procedures help us navigate through it? What aspects of our organizational discipline do you think were most effective, and how can we improve further?"
These questions can prompt reflection and discussion, helping individuals and teams explore the role of discipline in building resilience both personally and organizationally.
