There was Lucas Giolito. There was David Robertson. Now there is Max Scherzer. The big deals are coming fast and furious, and Bradfo is reacting. We dissect exactly what happened with Scherzer going from the Mets to the Rangers, what it means for both teams and what it says about the market. Sometimes - as last year's Deadline showed - the prospects coming back who you never heard of can be pretty big deal.
There are plenty of examples of reclamation projects throughout baseball, with the Rays and Dodgers oftentimes being the teams finding the secret sauce to fix players - particularly pitchers. The latest example is former Red Sox and current Dodger Ryan Brasier, who has been absolutely dominant for Los Angeles after being released by Boston. How? Why? Well, Brasier joined Bradfo to explain exactly how his turnaround happened. As a bonus, Brasier finds out in the middle of the podcast that he is being reunited with his former Red Sox teammate Joe Kelly, who calls in briefly during the chaos that came with the deal sending him to the Dodgers.
The player who helped launch the Baseball Isn't Boring campaign, Joe Kelly, has been traded to the Dodgers. It seemed only fitting that Bradfo would offer an instant reaction to the deal, including sound from another podcast he was taping with Dodgers reliever Ryan Brasier while both were finding out in real-time that the trade was going down.
It was one of the bigger moves of the 2022 Trade Deadline, with longtime Royal Whit Merrifield finally moving on from Kansas City in a trade that sent him to Toronto, where he has had an All-Star season in 2023. Bradfo catches up with Merrifield for a quick reflection on everything he learned goes into being part of a Deadline deal.
The Trade Deadline action kept churning along with the Mets dealing reliever David Robertson to the Marlins for two teenagers. Robertson just happened to be one of the picks in the Baseball Isn't Boring Trade Deadline Draft, with Bradfo, Producer Evan, Sammy, Gordo and Pat predicting where all these rumored players are going to end up. It's the best way to prepare for one of the baseball's season's biggest moments.
The Newest Atlanta Brave acquired via trade from the Colorado Rockies, Relief Pitcher Pierce Johnson sits down with Bradfo to give a behind-the-scenes look at what it is like to be dealt at the Trade Deadline and the sudden switch from pitching for a team that has no chance at the postseason to pitching for a team that is right in the thick of playoff contention and of course, forgetting your toothbrush charger...
There haven't been many bigger Trade Deadline deals in recent years than Justin Verlander going to Houston in 2017. It's why getting the perspective of someone who was in that clubhouse at that time is so fascinating. Fortunately, Bradfo can draw on the experiences of a player who was in the middle of the chaos - Braves reliever Collin McHugh - to talk about that deal, along with all the intrigue that comes with any Trade Deadline.
The Trade Deadline is officially in full swing, with the Angels defining their intention on keeping Shohei Ohtani and going for a postseason berth with the late-night trade for Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez. Bradfo not only picks through that huge deal, continues the Deadline conversation with four more Trade Deadline Confessions - Collin McHugh, Pierce Johnson, Kenley Jansen and Richard Bleier. It's where the players tell us all what it's like to live through a Trade Deadline. It's the best way to keep the Deadline adrenaline pumping.
As we inch closer and closer to the MLB Trade Deadline, smaller scale trades are starting to occur across the league, with the latest being the Los Angeles Dodgers acquiring Kike Hernandez from the Boston Red Sox for two minor league pitchers, Nick Robertson and Justin Hagenman. After this trade was officially announced, the Boston Media caught up with Chaim Bloom to discuss how the trade came about and what made him pull the trigger, along with what Kike meant to the Red Sox during his close to three-year tenure.
We have a trade! The Red Sox sent Kiké Hernandez to the Dodgers for a pair of minor-league pitchers. Here comes the Trade Deadlne! Bradfo offers up a bit of reaction from Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom after his deal just to keep the trade convo going. But the true meat and potatoes of today's podcast is Bradfo's conversation with one the voices of America's Team, the Cincinnati Reds, John Sadak. If there was an MVP for baseball broadcasters, Sadak would be one of the favorites. John jumps aboard to give his unique perspective of the Elly De La Cruz Effect while also examining what's what when it comes to the team everybody is rooting for.
