Baseball Isn't Boring regular Rich Hill made his first appearance on the podcast as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Hill explains how the deal came about while mixing in details of his first few days with Pittsburgh while navigating his vacation through Scotland. While offering details of his trip to the Scottish Highlands, he also explains what drew him to the Pirates and what he thought of the team's celebratory hype video. It's our first podcast with a Pirates pitcher who claims he might have seen the Loch Ness Monster.
Fresh off the news that he is shifting from his duties as a Mets broadcaster to the new television play-by-play person for the Angels, Wayne Randazzo joins Bradfo and Courtney Finnicum to talk about his switch, what went into calling Albert Pujols' 700th home run and the realities that come with broadcasting baseball these days. If you want an inside look at what goes into those baseball broadcasts you here throughout the season, this is must-listen.
There is no baseball general manager who has had better fortune of late agreeing to contract extensions for their players than Atlanta's chief decision-maker Alex Anthopoulos. The Braves' GM joins Bradfo to talk about how he is building his team and lessons learned from his stint with the Blue Jays. There is also a spirited debate over ketchup-flavored potato chips. With another big extension - Rafael Devers - in the news, it's a good time to look at how these things get done.
Last year, Bradfo got help from Batting Stance Guy to help reveal his Hall of Fame ballot. It was viewed by more than 200,000 people, and launched an important conversation - what would the next reveal look like? Well, we have our answer. With help from actor D.B. Sweeney, Bradfo has gone next-level in announcing his picks, with Sweeney reprising his role in the iconic baseball movie 'Eight Men Out' and delivering the selections as Shoeless Joe Jackson. Sweeney joined Bradfo to revisit the path both took to constructing the reveal and why it was memorable for both of them.
Want to be sold on the chances of the 2023 White Sox? You're going to want to listen to the conversation Bradfo and Courtney Finnicum had with their new manager Pedro Grifol. In a very open and honest back-and-forth, Grifol presents what he perceived was wrong with the White Sox, what could be right with his new team, and why he is going to make sure all his new players watch the Houston Astros accept their World Series rings on Opening Day. If you want to be ahead of the curve when it comes to what will be what in the American League Central, this is the podcast you should listen to.
It's that time of year, when for the first few weeks of January the baseball conversation is dominated by who will get into the Hall of Fame and who will miss at. The person who helps navigate the debate better than anyone is Ryan Thibodaux, who has constructed the go-to tracker when it comes to how the HOF voting is shaking out. The man known as @NotMrTibbs on social media joined Bradfo to have an in-depth conversation about all things Hall of Fame voting. It's the right podcast at the right time.
Are we sleeping on Masa Yoshida? With news that that the new Red Sox outfielder will be playing for Team Japan in the World Baseball Classic, it got Bradfo thinking: Could this guy be the best free agent outfield acquisition not named Aaron Judge? Just to help the conversation our host talks to Red Sox exec Gus Quattlebaum, who helped spearhead the pursuit of the 29-year-old outfielder. It's a great way to kick off what will undoubtedly be anything but a boring year.
Just about a year ago, the Baseball Isn't Boring cause was hatched. It was a product of a message both Bradfo and Joe Kelly wished to pass along via the book that can now be bought on Amazon - "A Damn Near Perfect Game: Reclaiming America's Pastime". Along the way there were t-shirts, hoodies, sound bytes, conversation, social media accounts and, finally, the podcast. We asked a multitude of players, actors, entertainers, and media members the simple question: Why baseball isn't boring. While there too many to surface on the final day of 2022, we felt that the answer given by ESPN's Eduardo Perez hit perfect and serves as the ultimate launching pad for 2023.
You aren't going to find a better way to ring in 2023 then joining the Baseball Isn't Boring New Year's Bash with Bradfo, former Toronto manager John Gibbons and Courtney Finnicum. The trio celebrate with some great behind-the-scenes stories, a look at what we can hope for in the new year, and, of course, a great debate over which cocktails we should be serving at the party. Happy New Year!
