Batting Around Podcast

FanGraphs' Michael Baumann is back to talk about the news of the week, and we made him take point as the only straight man when we talked about the Dodgers' cowardly Pride Night scandal.

We cover Lauren getting into soccer, new international series announcements, the central divisions being terrible, Noah Syndergaard doing hypnotherapy, Akil Badoo getting tagged in the 'nads, and we also talked about what specific parts of the UK we don't like and what planets are bullshit.

We're doing a patreon episode of nothing but mailbag this weekend so if you want answers to your pressing questions please send them to us on discord or twitter, or you can show up to our places of employment and brandish a firearm.

Charles is back to talk about what the heck is going on with the FIRST PLACE ON MAY 2ND Pittsburgh Pirates. Then we check in on the rest of the standings, talk about the Mexico City bombfest, and of course some mailbag.

Returning guest and Oakland Athletics fan Jeremy Koo is here to trauma dump about the A's (probably) moving to Las Vegas. Unfortunately for him we're at our emotional capacity and helping someone else who's in crisis and dealing with our own stuff (all the 2022 Dodgers hitting it raw during the last all star break) and we can't hold appropriate space for him.

My cats kept fucking with me during this one but we stayed on track and talked about baseball pretty much the whole time, except the part where we talked about Hitler.

Stephen, Lauren, and guest co-host Rachel Cholst of Rainbow Rodeo interview Bryan Ruby, a singer-songwriter in Nashville who, in 2021, became the first professional baseball player to come out of the closet while still in the game.

Lauren's back, regular season baseball is back, and most importantly we are so back. We catch up with Lauren for some takes she's had bottled up, then we talk about opening day, Bryce Harper's romance novel habit, Jack Flaherty being a Joker Guy, and a bunch of other stuff that's NOT the pitch clock and rule changes.

Lauren is still out for another week but filling in for her is legal podcasting legend Charles Star (@ugarles). We all finally cancel each other in this one but Stephen gets it the worst.

Jane and Stephen recap the WBC and all the discourse around it. Spoilers: they liked it (the WBC, not the discourse).

Yahoo! Sports writer and Hittin' Season host Liz Roscher is back and filling in for Lauren as we talk about everything that's happened in the WBC so far including the upsets and let downs, UK's jerseys and celebrations, appropriating Italian culture, Team Israel's twitter account being the biggest baby in the world, and all the cute stuff with the Czech and Japanese teams.
