This afternoon, Holly Quan walks us through what is happening today. Crews are hard at work just outside of Benicia, trying to repair a water main that was damaged by the recent storm. Small communities along the Russian River in Sonoma County continue to feel the impacts of the recent storms even after they’ve passed. Already rocked by allegations of criminal misconduct, the Antioch police department now placing several more officers on leave. Now that the skies have cleared and the rainfall has moved on, at least for now, it’s a wonderful time to take in one of natures greatest attractions - the many waterfalls across the Bay Area.

It's official: the whole bay area is now out of the drought, for now. That's according to the latest drought monitor report, which came out this morning. For more, Holly Quan spoke to Newsha Ajami - water expert at the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, and President of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission.

Governor Gavin Newsom is asking for millions of dollars in federal disaster aid for communities ravaged by recent storms. California's task force on reparations is set to meet today to consider an analysis of the potential cost to compensate the state's Black residents.

In Novato Caltrans, electric and water utility crews continue their work to hold back a major landslide from reaching the nearby southbound lanes of Highway 101. Although much of the city has been slow to bounce back, San Francisco’s travel industry is starting to heat up. This weather is tough for restaurants, unless they're cooking up hot soup for takeout. 

Congress has recently been holding hearings regarding TikTok and threats to data privacy, but many were focused on how little our lawmakers seemed to understand the company and culture about which they were inquiring. This has raised concerns about whether our leaders are trying to legislate something they don't understand. We're also learning that there are allegations other social media companies that hire contractors to smear competitors with misinformation. For more on this, our anchors Brett and Patti spoke with Jamie Cohen, Media Studies professor at CUNY Queens College.

The Bay Area is being hit yet again with another storm and high rise buildings in San Francisco are once again seeing cracks in window panes. This time, the storm brings strong winds, downpours, lightning and even hail. The last thing crews working on the Pajaro River levee need is more rain. Only temporary measures are being put in place until long term repairs are expected to start. With all the soil saturation, we're already worried about the stability of hillsides and trees and then this morning, Mother Nature threw us a series of quakes along the San Mateo County Coast and Peninsula. A 3.5 quake usually doesn't rattle nerves, but so many of us are already suffering from storm anxiety. 

RSV, it’s a nasty, even potentially deadly upper respiratory virus we’ve been telling you about lately, mostly impacting newborns and toddlers. However, RSV has also been targeting older adults during a late winter, early spring time spike.  

The climate does not care about what your calendar says and this winter has had a special bite. A bill that attempts to limit spiking gas prices in California has quickly passed the legislature and is now awaiting the governor’s signature. Doctors in Contra Costa County have a new contract which will help in hiring much needed additional doctors. The Oakland Zoo has lost one of its older residents, a 46 year old elephant named Lisa had to be euthanized.

With the financial sector still in turmoil two weeks after the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank, but a South Bay lawmaker is pushing for a legislative fix.

This afternoon, our anchors Patti Reising and Brett Burkhart speak with Ben Chapman, education reporter for the Wall Street Journal about the ongoing medication shortage in the US, and how drugs that treat ADHD like Adderall and its counterparts have been in short supply for months. This is now being felt by schools across the country as they grapple with a surge in students of all ages struggling to concentrate among other behavioral problems. 

Most construction projects shut down when there's big rain but despite another storm expected tonight, SFO is going ahead with today's eight week closure of its shortest runway for repaving. Local baseball and softball players are saying enough with all this rain.

Mill Valley Civic leaders and the police department say they have had it with a proliferation of e-bikes and e- scooters operated mostly by kids, wreaking havoc on city pathways, sidewalks and even streets. People who live in Pajaro are cleaning up and asking for more help and a group of small business owners sent a letter to the governor making a case for federal assistance.

Governor Gavin Newsom today announced that at least some of the state’s drought restrictions will be going away.  California is addressing one of the most pressing issues in the state: building more facilities to store runoff from the Sierra. There's a labor action at some Oakland schools today. The Oakland Education Association's contract expired in October. Over half dozen small businesses were burglarized this week in Oakland Chinatown.  Today the Oakland Chamber of Commerce held a community meeting demanding more overnight patrols  from Oakland police. 

The CDC is releasing new findings that show Autism cases are continuing to rise among children.. and for the first time, it's showing that Black and Latino children are being diagnosed at a higher rate than in previous years. For more, our anchors spoke with Dr. Young Shin Kim, psychiatrist and director of UCSF's Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders.
