We left Ruth and Naomi journeying back to Bethlehem, but their problems are far from over. How would God provide? Where did Ruth’s faith step lead her? As we will see in Ruth 2-4, God was up to some major things through this ordinary family who took private steps of faith. See you Sunday!
What is a step of faith, and why is walking by faith important? To help answer these questions we’ll go back to the little town of Bethlehem, not to talk about Christmas, but to look at another story of a small family that lived long before the birth of Jesus. Back then there was a young widow that didn't grow up knowing who God really was, but there came a time when she went all in for God and His people. Join us this Sunday as we open up her story, the book of Ruth, where we’ll see how her life still speaks to ours today.
All of us have and will go through seasons of doubt, despair and disappointment. The book of Habakkuk is all about how a discouraged prophet moves from worry to worship, from doubt to trust, and is taken to a higher mountain peak in his relationship with the Lord. God wants to lift us above despair and take us to higher ground! Join us this week as we continue our study of Habakkuk.
“Why, God?” Each of us have asked that question. It flows from a heart of disappointment and confusion. Why would God allow this? Why doesn’t God do something? Perhaps in the midst of furlough, quarantine, homeschool challenges or marriage stressors you are asking the "why" question right now. 2,700 years ago a prophet named Habakkuk wrestled with God over "why.” He didn’t like what God was doing and wasn’t shy about telling Him! Join us this week as we look in Habakkuk 1 and 2 at God’s answer to the “why” question we all ask.
In the midst of life’s most difficult circumstances or unthinkable calamities, the Bible has a word picture for us. It’s a word that is meant to call to mind feelings of safety and security. The word is fortress. God is our fortress. He is our place of refuge and strength. When we see ourselves safe inside His fortress, we can relax and trust Him with whatever comes our way. Join us as our view of God gets expanded through our study of Psalm 46!
This Sunday, churches from all around our area are uniting to focus on Psalm 23 as a sign that we are “In This Together.” God is our Shepherd who is always with us. Though we find ourselves in a valley, our Good Shepherd promises to lead us through that valley. Our response is simple: follow Him. As we do, we will come to know the goodness and lovingkindness of our Shepherd.
Have you ever wondered why Jesus went back to heaven? Wouldn’t He have done a much better job than us? Jesus is a much better disciple-maker, preacher, healer, prophet, priest and king. And the ascension seems like a bad strategy, removing the key piece of evidence that substantiates the claim of Jesus’ resurrection. Just as the game got started, it’s like God removed His best player and substituted us instead. Tune in to explore with me the central importance that Jesus’ ascension has in our lives today.
For all of us, this is an Easter like no other. Normally, we are dressed up and leaving early for church hoping to get there in time to find a seat. This year, we celebrate Easter from home. Whether at church or home, the truth remains: Jesus has risen! Death could not hold him. The grave could not stop him. He is a risen Savior! The resurrection of Jesus proves that He is the Son of God who conquered sin and death. Coronavirus does not have the last say! There is no better time than Easter to invite your friends and family to watch an online gathering. Join us this Easter Sunday for a very special and surprising gathering filled with song, a testimony and a message about “the resurrection and the life” found in John 11:25-27.
In a few short weeks, believe it or not, believers all over the world will be celebrating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. This is truly a victorious day to look forward to. And to prepare our hearts, we will first look at the epic battle in the garden of Gethsemane. It was a battle in prayer that led to Jesus’ decision that would change destinies forever. We too will find ourselves in battles like this, and with His help will be able to share in the decision of Jesus: “Not as I will, but as you will.” Join me to learn more as we take a look at Matthew 26:36-46.
