As a Good News Person, we fit into God’s incredible plan to reach people by building genuine friendships. In fact, that method of relationship is modeled after God's own nature and HIs heart to have a relationship with us! Join us this Sunday as we look at the biblical principles and very practical steps of the second marker of being an intentional Good News Person: Care
Ask we sketch out the portrait of a Good News Person, we want to highlight 3 key markers that indicate intentionality in a Good News Person. These markers are the habits or rhythms of someone who understands that their an ordinary person carrying an extraordinary hope where they live, work, play and learn. These markers are Prayer, Care and Share. Join Drew and Me as we explore that first marker (Prayer) together.
We're spending this year on a journey to become Good News People. But what does a Good News Person look like? What do they do? How do they behave? In this series we'll be aiming to give a portrait sketch of a Good News Person, and using a different format for our teaching to do that. Our opening question for this first week in January will basically be - What if I don't feel gifted or called.. Do I HAVE to do evangelism? We'll see what the Bible says and what stands in our way to following through on this important practice.
Living for the approval of others is a default mode of the human heart. Even though we know we should be guided by a better compass that public opinion, we still find ourselves controlled by, what will she think? Or what will he say? - it's so hard to avoid. So what do we need to do to have an identity secure enough to set our eyes on things above? Come this Sunday as we discuss how maximize the truth that our lives are hidden with Christ.
The Christmas season is upon us, and with it comes the hope of a white Christmas. A perfect, peaceful anxiety-free experience. We all have a picture of this Good Life, and we frantically try to manufacture it. We run around "stapling snow" onto our lives: trying to control our schedules, budgets, family dynamics, and expectations, hoping to secure that feeling of peace. We often find that the harder we try to control our circumstances, the more anxiety takes hold.
This Christmas, I would love to invite you put down the stapler and join us for our new series, Dreaming Of A White Christmas. The biblical truth is that peace is not found in controlling our circumstances, but in the person of Jesus Christ.
Do you have someone in your life who always remembers that vacation with rose-colored glasses? They can't seem to remember the flat tire, the sick kid or the big fight? That "selective-memory" problem is a decent summary of why most of us don't remember what happens in Jonah 4 - we're selectively remembering the good parts (and avoiding the hard stuff). Join us this Sunday as we wade into the surprising and convicting ending to the story (the ending you might've blocked out)!
What's the absolute pinnacle of achievement in your chosen profession? I don't mean JUST becoming a surgeon (for the doctors in the house) - I mean curing cancer and having the cure named after you! What's THAT accomplishment in your field? In chapter 3, we're going to see Jonah at the PEAK of prophetic achievement, but his greatest sermon is given to people that he'd rather NOT believe it! We're going to learn that God is capable of more mercy that we think is prudent (and we should be glad for that).
Could you name the worst day of your life? Your lowest moment? Your most painful season? Even if you can't precisely pinpoint a day, we've all got a memories that we'd rather forget and seasons we'd never want to relive.
And the truth is, nobody emerges from those moments unscathed. In this Sunday's portion of the story of Jonah, we're going to see his darkest moment and we'll see that something happens to him in that space that will have a lasting impact on his future.
