Don't you appreciate it when someone respects you enough to shoot straight with you? When you're about to go through something hard, it can be refreshing to have someone who has firsthand experience with your challenge and will tell you the honest reality of what you're going to face - without sugar coating or hedging. Oddly, this can be a strong form of encouragement! In our passage for today, we'll hear the tough love of a pastor to his people about what it will take to run their race with endurance.
Most of the time, when you see a long list of heroes, the people that are included are there because they accomplished something great - broke through a glass ceiling, changed a paradigm, or broke a record. But in Hebrews 11, what we get is something different: it's a list of heroes, who in large part don't seem to "win" at life. What's with that? What does that mean about success and faith and how those words are defined? Come join us on Sunday to explore it together.
When you hear the word faith, you may have a few different ideas come to mind. Depending on one's religious background, they may equate that to the Buddhist, Muslim, or Christian faith. Others believe that faith is blind and one just takes a leap in the dark. While others use faith to simply be optimistic about the future, such as "I have faith that the Orioles will win today." What would you say faith is? Join us this Sunday as we turn a corner in the book of Hebrews and learn from those in the Hall of Faith.
Ever feel the pull to drift, to loosen your grip on what truly matters? This Sunday, we're getting very practical as we uncover ways to hold tightly to our faith in Jesus. We've heard it over and over again that Jesus is better, andseeing Him clearly fuels our journey. But why does that grip sometimes feel…slippery? This week, the author of Hebrews lays out four surefire ways to strengthen your grip, even when the storms of life rage. If you've ever felt the temptation to let go, to doubt, or to simply lose your way, these verses are a lifeline!
Join us this Sunday as we discover how to strengthen our hold and live with unwavering confidence in Jesus…and invite a friend who has loosened their grip!
Do you remember disposable cameras? The experience of taking a photo and having NO idea what it looked like until you finally got the film developed was ... less than stellar. But at the CENTER of the film industry was the global brand Kodak - they ruled the world of film until it all came crashing down. How did a company so big become so irrelevant? But more importantly, what does the Kodak Company have to do with the book of Hebrews? Come explore Hebrews 9 to hear how they're more similar than you might think - see you Sunday!
Have you ever been in conversation and someone's name comes up that you haven't thought about it years? The question that comes to mind for me is, "What she up to these days?" - a question that facebook has made significantly easier to answer. But I'm wondering - what if we asked that about Jesus. What's he up to these days? Hebrews 8 outlines the answer, and I'm excited to walk through it with you.
