  • How the Musk v. Altman lawsuit could shape the future of AI | Global News Podcast
Two of the world's most powerful tech billionaires are locked in a legal battle over OpenAI - the company behind ChatGPT and a leading force in artificial intelligence.
Elon Musk is suing the firm and its boss, Sam Altman - with whom he founded OpenAI in 2015 - alleging that they misled him by shifting the organisation away from its non-profit roots towards a for-profit model.
OpenAI says Mr Musk is motivated by jealousy and regret for walking away from the company in 2018. It has also accused Mr Musk - who now owns a separate AI firm - of trying to derail one of his key rivals.
This court battle takes place as a handful of tech giants are competing to reach the next stage of AI development: artificial general intelligence or AGI. That is loosely defined as AI that surpasses human intelligence.
We speak to the BBC's AI correspondent Marc Cieslak about the case, its possible ramifications, and the future of AI.

  • Will the US seize enriched uranium? Well, they've done it before | The Security Brief
With peace talks between the US and Iran at an impasse, the Pentagon says it is planning a short, sharp campaign to force Iran's hand in negotiations.
Could the focus be a seizure of Iran's enriched uranium, and how would it be carried out?
The Security Brief takes you back to 1994, when Project Sapphire saw the US conduct a covert operation in Kazakhstan to seize 600kg of enriched uranium, before smuggling it back to the United States.
Christian Fraser and Mikey Kay explain what can be learned from that operation, and why a mission in Iran would be far more difficult.

  • Why Ukraine’s robot victory over Russia signals a new era of warfare | The Global Story

Ukraine claims to have recently taken over a Russian position – forcing Russian soldiers to surrender – using robotic systems alone.
President Zelensky has been asking the world for help to fight Russia since the full-scale invasion began in 2022.
But in the years since, Ukraine has revolutionised the technology of warfare with battlefield robots and drones, and now other countries are turning to it for its technology and expertise.
We speak to the journalist and defence expert Mark Urban about how Ukraine went from needy to needed.
New episodes of The Global Story are released daily. If you’re in the UK, listen on BBC Sounds. If you live outside the UK, listen on BBC.com or wherever you get your podcasts.
