  • 794. Sky-High Adventure: a short story and guided meditation for kids
Charlie Truck and his driver set off on a trip up the mountain! But can Charlie make the challenging drive?

    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 3:42

    Sky-High Adventure Excerpt:
In the early light of dawn, the sun tiptoed through the windows of Charlie Truck’s cozy garage, casting a warm glow on his metallic exterior. The air inside was soft and still, as though the space was holding its breath in anticipation for a special day. Nestled in his spot, Charlie gradually awoke to the sound of the garage door opening. Morning sunlight spilled in, silhouetting Charlie’s driver in golden light. Charlie’s tires tingled with anticipation as the driver approached with a smile.  He wondered where they were going together today.

Charlie’s driver secured some bags in Charlie’s truck bed and then hopped in the front seat. But before he turned on Charlie’s engine, he pulled a map of Ahway Island out of Charlie’s glove box.  The driver unfolded the map and traced his finger over the lines and markings on the map. The driver murmured to himself, “If we go here…here…and then turn here….we can make it to the mountain top in time for lunch!”

  • 793. A Joyful Swim: a meditation and soothing child’s tale
Shayla Shark decides to travel to the other side of the reef with her friend Sean Shark. What kinds of creatures will they see?

    Narrator: Male

    Story Begins: 4:09

    A Joyful Swim Excerpt:
It was a hot day on Ahway Island. The sky and the water were both a brilliant azure blue. It was so warm that all the sea creatures came out to have fun. No clouds were in sight—just the fluffy feathers of happy seagulls flying high above the sparkling waters.

Today, Shayla Shark was swimming around the coral reef, not too far from her home, and not far from the Ahway Island shoreline. It was nice and warm near the shallow waters, so Shayla thought it was the perfect time to take a little swim. As she went, Shayla was careful not to bump into the beautiful, living coral that was part of the reef.

Winfield and Brian are ready for wheel fun! With the new wheelchair wheels they are ready to play anywhere.
Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Wheel Fun,” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday!
    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 10:52

    Wheel Fun Excerpt:
Brian and Winfield the wheelchair watched from the sidewalk as a group of kids gathered on the bumpy field. But this time they were ready with a surprise for their friends. Winfield had his new all-terrain wheels and felt excited to try them out. So, Brian smiled when Ian said, “Hi, Brian! Do you want to play with us? We can move over to the black top.”

“You don’t have to move,” Brian answered proudly. “I’ll join you right where you are.” The other kids stopped playing, surprised at what Brian said and curious. With everyone’s attention Winfield turned his wheels towards the field and Brian pushed forward. They eased off of the sidewalk and onto the grass. Winfield held his breath, hoping he wouldn’t sink into the soft ground like he had so many times before. The bouncy wide wheels spread across the uneven ground. Even though the grass felt really soft, Winfield could tell rolling across it would be fine. He had to work a little more to move, and Brian had to work a little harder too. But here they were, playing with the others on the grass.
Today’s Meditation: Draw gentle shapes in the soothing sand as you prepare for today's story.

Wynne Wallaby explores her surroundings and meets other friendly animals.

    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 4:41

    Welcome, Wallaby! Excerpt:
In the cozy Ahway Island Forest, a bright, beautiful morning was just arriving. The trees stood tall and proud. Their leaves whispered in the gentle breeze. Sunbeams danced through the leaves, painting the ground with patches of light.  In one of these patches, Wynne Wallaby and her mother were just waking up and beginning their day.

The little wallaby was snuggled in her mother’s hug when the morning sunbeam tickled her tummy. Feeling the warmth, Wynne stretched. Wynne extended her four paws and her tail to their full length. Then she hopped up so she could nudge her mother’s nose with a cheerful good morning kiss. Wynne’s mother smiled at her eager little girl and stretched as well. Now that both wallabies were awake, they could enjoy breakfast.

Oliver Elephant is thirsty and searches for water. He finds both water and a friend!

    Narrator: Male

    Story Begins: 3:49

    Wondrous Water Excerpt:
In the Ahway Island animal sanctuary lay a vast field of golden grass. A soft breeze swept through the field, causing the grass to ripple like flowing waves.  On this sunny day, a little elephant named Oliver gazed out over his surroundings, and sighed. Oliver loved the way the grass swayed, and he felt grateful for the cool winds that blew all around him, but he felt something missing – his mouth was all dry, and he was thirsty!

Looking around, Oliver couldn’t see any water nearby.  He thought maybe he could use his other senses to help him find some water. Oliver decided to go on a little adventure. Slowly, he started walking. His ears perked up, listening for the sound of trickling water. His trunk was poised to catch a whiff of it. His skin was looking for any sign of moisture in the air.

Brooke the Stream helps Magnus and Mabel's ducklings have a race.

    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 3:39

    Duckling Derby Excerpt:
It was a cool afternoon in the Ahway Island forest. Last night, there had been a thunderstorm, and today, a few remining clouds still hung in the sky. The downpour had left Brooke, the little forest stream, feeling especially full.  The water from the rainstorm had gathered into puddles and flown down her banks.  Her waters were rushing faster than usual, whoosh whoosh whoosh-ing into the nearby pond.

As the waves splashed into the little pond, Brooke saw her two duck friends, Mabel and Magnus Mallard finishing up a swim with their seven ducklings. The whole family climbed out of the water.  Mama Mabel led them all in a line, and Papa Magnus brought up the rear. As the ducks waddled, little droplets dripped off their feathers and onto the ground.

Dragon peeked out of the forest, curious to see if any kids were at the park. Gerry robin noticed her friend and asked, “What are you doing today?” Having spotted Anora, Dragon pointed her out to Gerry bird and stepped out of the enchanted forest. Feeling a little adventurous, the robin decided to follow along. Dragon skipped over to Anora waving happily. “Oh, hi, Dragon!” she responded. Then she turned to the kids behind her, “You guys have to meet Dragon!” Anora turned back to Dragon and said, “This is Ian and Mike.”
Ian and Mike stepped out from behind Anora. They had heard other kids talking about the friendly dragon that lived in the forest but hadn’t met Dragon yet. Ian stepped forward holding his hand out for a handshake - after all this was how he had been taught to introduce himself. Dragon smiled and gently shook Ian’s hand. Then Gerry robin settled onto Dragon’s shoulder and said, “Hello! I’m Gerry. Nice to meet you Ian and Mike.”

Liam and his mom make a bird feeder to help out a blue jay in the winter.

    Narrator: Male

    Story Begins: 4:06

    The Bird Feeder Excerpt:
The chilly breath of winter painted Ahway Island with a frosty charm.  The snow sparkled in the morning sunlight. Liam sat by the window finishing his glass of juice after a delicious breakfast.  He looked out at the snow and saw the remnants of the fort he’d build with his parents the other day.  The sun was doing its best to melt it away.  Liam thought maybe he’d go outside to play today and fix up the fort.  Maybe his mom would even join him for a snowball fight later.

As Liam looked out, he noticed a patch of blue against the white of the snow.  There was a little blue jay hopping around in the yard, poking at the ground.  Liam watched it explore for a while, wondering what the bird was doing.  Was it looking for something?
