Gabrielle and Ariana speak to clinical psychologist, Dr. Rachel Wyner, during their time abroad in Israel. Throughout this episode they discuss her education, career trajectory, her work-life balance and what it is like to manage a private clinical psychology practice in Israel.

Dr. Wyner has a private practice in clinical psychology in which she conducts primarily remote therapy to clients in America from Israel. She has many years of training and experience and specializes in anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD. Dr. Wyner has a PhD in Psychology, an MA in Trauma studies, along with a JD and MA in Bioethics from her previous career as an attorney. She trained at Mount Sinai - Beth Israel Medical Center and numerous CBT outpatient clinics in psychoanalytic institutes in New York.

Gabrielle and Ariana speak to the former Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem, Fleur  Hassan-Nahoum, during their time abroad in Israel. They discuss her experience in choosing her career, her career trajectory, her work-life experience and the context of how a career in politics  could look in Israel. 

Fleur grew up in Gibraltar and studied law at King's College, London University. She qualified as a barrister in Middle Temple and practiced in London before immigrating to Israel in 2001. Before joining politics, Fleur worked in the Jewish nonprofit world and created her own communications consulting business. In May 2016 Fleur became a City Councilor in Jerusalem and in February 2017 the leader of the Opposition. In November 2018 Fleur was re-elected to the Jerusalem Municipal Council and was appointed Deputy Mayor for foreign relations, economic development, and tourism. Fleur co-founded the UAE-Israel Business Council and the Gulf Israel Women’s Forum in 2020. Since September 2023, Fleur has been serving as Israel's special envoy for innovation. She is the first woman to be appointed as Secretary General for Kol Israel. Fleur recently joined the Misgav Institute for National Security and Zionist Strategy as a senior fellow and sits on the international advisory council. Fleur completed her tenure as Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem in March, 2024, and she remains involved in the advancement of women's rights and marginalized populations in the city, through economic development and the fight for a pluralistic Jerusalem.

Dr. Young’s accomplishments include: author, international lecturer, media consultant, private practice nutritionist, and adjunct professor of nutrition in the Department of Nutrition and Food Studies at New York University (NYU). She is also  the author of multiple books including, The Portion Teller Plan: Eating, Cheating, and Losing Weight Permanently which was named one of six best health books by The Wall Street Journal and The Oprah Magazine.

Widely considered an expert on portion sizes, Dr. Young is regularly featured in international publications including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, the Boston Globe, the Washington Post, and more. She has also been featured on international television including ABC News, BBC, CBS News, NBC News, TODAY, FOX, and CNN, and appeared in the U.S. award winning documentary “Super Size Me” and the U.K. BBC documentary series “The Men Who Made Us Fat” where she traced the history of growing food portions.

Genet Soomans is a Clinical Pharmacist at a South Florida hospital.  Some of her roles and responsibilities include evaluating medication therapy and making appropriate recommendations to health practitioners. She also monitors patient progress and makes relevant recommendations to change. Genet is passionate about providing the safest and optimal care for her patients.

Genet earned her Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics and Doctoral degree in Pharmacy at the University of Florida. She enjoys weightlifting, spending time with family, and traveling.

Vice Mayor Caryl Shuham was born in Baltimore, Maryland and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Johns Hopkins University. She went on to obtain her Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland and has worked as an attorney for more than 30 years representing companies engaged in the construction industry. She and her husband, Marty, are partners in the law firm of Shuham & Shuham, P.A. in downtown Hollywood. Vice Mayor Shuham is Florida Bar board certified in construction law.

The Vice Mayor is a member of the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization Board, the Broward County Climate Change Task Force, and the Broward County Condominium Structural Issues Committee. She is recognized as a Florida League of Cities Home Rule Hero, Broward County School Board Outstanding Mentor of the Year  and is a Hollywood Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) member. Vice Mayor Shuham completed the Florida League of Cities Institute for Elected Municipal Officials and received a Certificate of Achievement from Broward County Leaders Water and Climate Academy.

Volunteering in the community has always been important to the Vice Mayor. Currently, she serves as a Women of Tomorrow mentor at Hollywood Hills High School, an officer on the board of the North Beach Condominium Association and previously served on the City’s Dune Master Plan Task Force. She is a graduate of Leadership Hollywood and has served in leadership roles within the Broward Public Schools Partners in Education program, the JCC Book Festival and the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation Take Steps Walk. Additionally, Vice Mayor Shuham is a member of the Hollywood Women’s Club, the Hollywood Historical Society, the Art & Culture Center of Hollywood and the Lion’s Club of Hollywood.

Vice Mayor Shuham and her husband have been married for 35 years. They are the proud parents of three sons: Simon, an aerospace mechanical engineer; Matt, a journalist; and Ben, a physician.

The Vice Mayor’s priorities include addressing the local impact of sea level rise, improving code compliance, tackling ongoing traffic/safety concerns, preserving Hollywood’s unique history and charm as well as working with neighborhood public schools. Her focus is on making Hollywood a role model city for economic and environmental sustainability.

Dr. Lisa Tomasello is the chief anesthesiologist at Westside regional medical center. Lisa graduated from UF honors in 1999 and attended medical school at American university of the caribbean. She then matched at Henry Ford hospital in anesthesiology where she completed her residency in 2009. Dr Tomasello then moved to Florida and started her career at the age of 32. She has been an Anesthesiologist at Westside regional medical center for 13 years where she was the second female to join the group. Dr. Tomasello is married and has 2 children.

Episode 9: Gabrielle and Ariana talk with the Hon. Rositta E. Kenigsberg, the president of the Holocaust Documentation & Education Center, about raising a family and her incredible 40+ year career caring for survivors and ensuring their stories live on to educate future generations.

The Hon. Rositta Ehrlich Kenigsberg is the President of the Holocaust Documentation and Education Center in South Florida. In 1981, she founded the first Children of Holocaust Survivors Group of Southeastern Florida From 1983-1986, Mrs. Kenigsberg one of six Second Generation Advisors to nobel laureate, Elie Wiesel. In 1990, she again served with Eli Wiesel as  one of the four Founding Members of the North American Advisory Board of the "March of the Living” program. In 1994, Rosita wrote and spearheaded legislation that led to the passing of State of Florida Statute 1003.42. which mandates Holocaust Education for all Florida students from K-20 and provides teacher training and resources. For over two decades, Ms. Kenigsberg has been a leading advocate nationally and internationally to secure Long-Term Home Health Care for the Aging Holocaust Survivors. In 1998, Senator Bill Nelson, appointed Mrs. Kenigsberg to serve on Florida’s Steering Committee to assist the Florida Department of Insurance to implement the Holocaust Victim’s Insurance Act which she also helped author and pass. In 1996, Ms. Kenigsberg received a Presidential Appointment from then President Bill Clinton to serve as a member of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, (USHMM).  Over the years, she has served and continues to serve on numerous Boards including President of the International Network of Children of Holocaust Su This past January, Ms. Kenigsberg proudly announced a partnership with the USC Shoah Foundation, founded by Steven Spielberg, which “will ensure that the HDEC Oral History Collection will be preserved and available throughout the world in perpetuity, thanks to the extraordinary generosity of the Jim Moran Foundation for which all of us at the HDEC are tremendously grateful”. Rositta E. Kenigsberg is married, has two children, six grandchildren, and resides in south Florida.
