YOU ARE NOT YOUR PRODUCTIVITY. We have a perfect follow up from our last episode, which was all about about low energy levels. You know what contributes to low energy and burnout??? Not. Taking. A. Break. Our society thrives on being productive 24/7 and the "hustle hard" mentality. However, we're here to remind you that sometimes you absolutely need to be unproductive.
[4:10] Purpose Filled Life Versus Living Out Your Purpose. We talk a little bit about how we NEED to separate our identity from work. A purpose filled life does not equal being productive all the time.
[9:20] What Does it Mean to be Unproductive? So... what do we mean when we say you need unproductive days? There's many things that can fall under it, so we describe some activities that are productive versus unproductive. SPOILER ALERT: Organizing your house and your closet over the weekend is not being unproductive.
[12:30] - The Guilt Around being Unproductive. Natassia shares a passage from "Untamed" by Glennon Doyle about how our root beliefs are what make us feel anger and shame around resting.
- Give yourself permission to rest.
- You are more than just your productivity and your career.
- We need to CHALLENGE the belief systems we have around resting and productivity.
[18:50] The Benefits of Being Unproductive. Now that you guys have heard our side of the story... what are some good things that come out of resting and doing nothing? We share some of the benefits we've seen in our own lives.
- Hitting the reset button. When you can integrate moments of rest throughout your day, you can stop yourself from being overwhelmed [18:55]
- When you shut off, you can have bursts of creativity. [20:40]
- You can give yourself time to heal. Sometimes we are productivity in order to run away from our problems. [24:00]
- Being unproductive is GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH. You need time to relax and destress. [25:55]
[27:30] Closing Out & Some Reminders for You. A reminder that being productive all the time is... stupid. That's all folks. You are not a robot. It takes time to unlearn the negativity you may have associated with rest and NOT being productive.
We hope this episode helped you reflect and realize it's ok to STOP and do absolutely nothing sometimes. Be kinder to yourself, boo. We'd love to hear your thoughts! You know where to find us :)
