This episode we sit down with Western NY's own Andy Paddock. He grew up here in Perry NY, and after graduation he dabbled in construction, then bull riding until and injury sidelined him. After two surgeries and nearly a year of healing he decided to chase his dream of making a living hunting. This is a great story of ups and downs and a mother's insistence. We just scratched the surface of the stories Andy has accumulated in his first two years of guide service in Montana. This week we go in a little bit of a different direction. I talk briefly about the last week of rifle season here in NY but then dive into what Kyle Thompson of Undaunted Life calls our "Foxhole." Those dangerous guys we surround ourselves with who have our back, who will go to battle with us, and who will confront us when we need it. From there I draw some natural parallels to "Deer Camp." Things like the midnight call asking for help tracking a deer, confronting the guy at camp who is drinking too much, or celebrating each others successes in the woods to name a few. This week we give a brief peak into the night before gun opener at Beards Creek. We have been hunting together for 30 years and the laughs and conversations haven't changed much. This episode is a bit of nostalgia for us and if you have ever seen "Escanaba in Da Moonlight" you'll get some of the humor.

On this episode Ryan Marti and I discuss our recent trip to Northern NY to hunt the opening days of the muzzle loader season. We discuss the deer, and hunting but even more impactful to me was the stories and the experience. Ryan's family has hunted this same land for 5 generations. It is not a traditional "hunting camp" and yet the experiences were rich with all the lore, food, and tales one would expect from an Adirondack hunting trip (even though we weren't technically inside the Blue Line.
