  • Gathering 174: Lady Wisdom // "Good Judgement Through Bad Judgement"
How difficult is it to be told you're wrong or to be corrected? After all, isn't that how a person grows? Our tendency is to internalize the reprimand and stall out rather than grow in the wisdom of our mistake. Yet "Lady Wisdom" cares enough to offer us just that. This week, Pastor Tony Minear continues his series on "Lady Wisdom" and re-examines criticism and our response to reprimand. Listen and discover the opportunities for growth found when we embrace the critique. Learn how having a sense of self awareness of your errancy and frailty can not only bring growth and a sense of tranquility to yourself, but also to those around you. Are you ready to make a mistake?

  • Gathering 172: "Won't You Be My Neighbor: The Personal, Spiritual, & Political."
The Good Samaritan. Most likely you've heard or read the story. This narrative of unconditional love was shaped to speak to all people throughout the ages of God’s intention to restore love with ourselves and with our neighbor. Join us this Sunday as ellie hutchison, our Member in Discernment, explores the acts of love found within the Parable of the Good Samaritan. How easy is it to act lovingly in an unconditional way? Are we capable, or does something stand in our way? And if there is a blockage, what might that be? Discover the power of personal transformation to transform society and in so doing reveal God’s conspiracy of love for us all.

  • Gathering 171: “Black Lives Matter” // Rev. Judy Green-Davis
Join us this week as we celebrate the black experience and Black History Month. Our guest is Rev. Judy Green-Davis with a special message exploring "Black Lives Matter" and the unifying responsibility of all people groups to serve one another in love. In a culture fraught with racial division, social injustices, and competing interests, it is hard to imagine solidarity ever resting itself upon humanity. But scripture reminds us that there is unity to be discovered in our humanity through the liberating and unconditional love of God. As you reflect and sit in the uncomfortableness of our complicity as a nation for the black experience, discover the importance of celebrating that history, no matter how dark and sorted, and its ability to empower us to make God’s love real for all peoples now and for future generations to come.

  • Gathering 170: Choose: God or Money // "Life Abundant"
With exponential advances in Artificial Intelligence (A.I.), biotechnology, and robotics, what will mean to have a job in the next 20-30 years? Could anything Jesus have said possibly prepare or help us manage life during this period of transition? Join us for Pastor Tony's new message in our worship series "Choose: God or money?" as he explores what Jesus had to say about labor and work. Discover what Jesus thought about scarcity. Would it surprise you that he didn't have a problem with consuming? Then take a look at your own mindset and challenge yourself to think differently, perhaps even abundantly.

  • Gathering 169: Choose: God or Money // "Forgive Us our Debts"
Would it surprise you to learn that 90% of American debts (personal and public) are owed to the richest 10% of the population? This disparity was a reality in Jesus' time as well. In a voice aligned with the prophets before him, he denounced economic disparity—an action that likely resulted in his execution. And yet, Christians continue to want and focus on sex as the cause of society's ills. Just suppose Jesus was obsessed with debt, and not sex (as many think). What would Christianity have to say? Join us for Pastor Tony's new message in our worship series "Choose: God or money?" While a significant number of Christians are taking strong stances against abortion and the LGBTQ+ community, they are ignoring the impact debt is having on America. Listen and discover what critical first step you can take to align yourself with Jesus and bring about true change in the way we manage American debts.

  • Gathering 168: Choose: God or Money // "Disparity"
Economic disparity in the United States has increased by 20% in the last 30-40 years. However, this distinction between the “haves” and the “have nots” is not something new. In fact, unequal distribution of income and opportunity between different groups in society has been around for centuries and was just as prevalent in Jesus’ time as it is today. So much so that Jesus told a parable about it as related in Luke 16: 19-31: The Rich Man and Lazarus. Join Pastor Tony today as he explores Jesus' parable of a reversal of fates. When Lazarus, a poor beggar, dies alongside a rich man, who inherits the better fate? Will Lazarus heed the rich man's request and rescue him from eternal torment? Our tendency is to take the easy way out and moralize the parable making it about good versus evil. But what if we were to just sit with the parable and look at it purely objectively? What does this parable say about our life choices today? In a culture of instant gratification and avarice, discover the uncomfortable and hard truths that are revealed when we just sit with Jesus’ parable and ponder the ways in which we can make a difference today and live a life well. Which would you choose: God or money?

  • Gathering 167: Choose: God or Money // "Are you talking to me or us?"
Transformation of body, mind and spirit can happen on many levels. Take minimalism. Many believe that you can have a better quality of life if you minimalize your possessions and downsize. Jesus admonished this same notion in Mark 10:17-27, when he asked a wealthy man to give up all his possessions, give to the poor and follow him. But was Jesus speaking literally to this individual man or was he addressing something greater? Join Pastor Tony Minear as he continues his worship series, "Choose: God or Money," and explores a new way of interpreting Jesus’ request. Discover how individuals of the 1st century fell into poverty and the economic system which kept the marginalized oppressed. Learn how similar our economic system is today and consider how you can make a difference locally to offset the system and make God’s love real for all.

  • Gathering 166: Choose: God or Money // “God versus Mammon”
Join us this week for our new worship series "Choose: God or Money." Scripture gives us no lack of references to money, being mentioned more than 800 times in the Bible. But what exactly did Jesus have to say about the role of money in our lives and why is he so polarizing when it comes to speaking about money? Listen as Pastor Tony Minear unpacks scripture’s reference to God versus Mammon in Luke 16:13. Is it really God first and money second? This value system may ease our conscience, but perhaps Jesus meant for us to choose one or the other. Jesus made his choice, will you?
